The food here is actually very good. I’m giving it one star because of a serious issue that this particular restaurant location needs to start addressing: food allergies. The staff here are so ignorant of food allergies that, yes, they deserve one star for their brass insensitivity to the subject, and given its gravity. I have a pretty serious allergy to crustaceans and mollusks(otherwise known as shellfish), and the people who work at this location don’t seem to understand that you can’t just make your own alterations to food items without asking the customer the customer if it’s OK, because you never know if a customer will oppose the change and /or have a serious food allergy. I’ve ordered from here twice in the last month. The first time I went, I ordered an eel & cream cheese & mango roll(which was delicious) and an avocado salad. Nowhere on the menu does it indicate that the avocado salad has anything but avocado in it. When I asked the cashier what was in the salad, he simply said«avocado and lettuce.» I get my food, bring it home, start to eat it, and then start feeling a little weird. I look through the salad and whoops — OHLOOK — there’s crabmeat in it. Not knowing whether or not it’s real crabmeat, I go back to the restaurant. They tell me it’s fake crabmeat, but I’m at the point in my life my body has a mild allergic reaction to the taste and smell of foods that taste and smell like shellfish, and I don’t want to risk it being real crabmeat, so I ask for a new salad. The guy at the front argued with me for a bit, telling me that I should of told him about the allergy(which is true), but HETOLDME that there was only avocado and lettuce in the salad when I asked, so naturally I didn’t think there was anything to worry about. Anyway, they ended up giving me another salad without all the extra stuff free of charge, for which I was grateful. So, you know, move forward a few weeks later and I decide to order out from there again last night with a few friends because, like I said — the food is good, and anyone can make a mistake once. My partner calls up the restaurant and we order. We put the phone on speaker and he asks what’s in the House Salad for me. They say: «lettuce, cucumber, avocado, sweet potatoes, and crabmeat.» So we order the salad without crabmeat, and verify this with the women over the phone before hanging up. So we pick up our food. I grab the salad and inspect it — no crabmeat, wonderful. I start munching away and after a few bites I start to feel a little weird. I take a closer look at the salad and THERE’S A PIECEOFSHRIMPINIT that I mistook for a sweet potato. Luckily all that happened is that my throat felt a little scratchy. Anyway, I was so livid my friend called up the place and explained to the cook that I had a serious shellfish allergy which is why I didn’t want crabmeat in the salad. His response? «I only put one piece of shrimp in it because I thought that’d be OK since you weren’t getting crabmeat in it.» Yes, sir, and that one shrimp has a the power to bring an entire person down if said person has a severe allergy to it. While I appreciate that they tried to replace the crabmeat with a different item for no extra charge, you just can’t screw around with a person’s food without asking them first. We picked up a replacement salad, and the chef told me that they fry all their veggie tempura pieces in the same oil as the shrimp, so they took the sweet potatoes out of the salad. Long story short: if you’re a vegetarian or have a related food allergy, you may want to rethink going to this place. I probably won’t be visiting them again.

The first hint should have been only one other couple was in there during dinner rush. Inside there is a small bar and a handful of tables. Service was okay. I love and appreciate good fresh sushi. This just wasn’t a place that had good fresh sushi. I won’t be coming back.

Ordered again tonight, and remembered that I haven’t written a review! We have been order no from Sushi Corner for a few years now, and they have never let us down. Very fresh fish, and such creative maki combos — we just love what they do. Yes, they can take a little time, especially on busy nights, but it’s worth the wait. In the past two weeks, I’ve had sushi at two other places, but tonight’s order confirmed that Sushi Corner is my fav.

The worst chirashi I have ever had! First of all it comes with only three kinds of fish and the portion is not very big at $ 20 price. Then there is a huge pile of pickled ginger and shredded radish underneath the fish that make it seem like it is a big portion. Worst of all, the rice tastes almost like a bland steamed rice with no flavor at all. No pleasant sourness or sweetness. The whole thing is a total failure. If you want to know what a really good bowl of chirashi is, go for the $ 18 one at Toraya in Arlington, for all its portion, variety, freshness and the amazing sushi rice!

I have ordered today first time. 1– Food was great and fresh: shrimp tempura roll, patriot maki, chicken tempura maki, tamago nigiri, spicy salmon tempura roll. 2– Delivery on time as promised. 3– Price affordable for order size. I am definitely ordering again in a near future.

Came for a quick bite while waiting for someone. Prices are extremely affordable. I’d say that the sushi is pretty good so you get more for what you pay for. I’ll definitely be back. Just a warning: place is very very small.

I’ve dined-in at this tiny hidden spot once, was a good meal and I watched the game on tv. Pretty sure it’s BYOB, liquor store around the corner on Main St is clutch. I’ve ordered delivery via foodler a ton of times, quality is always on point. Rolls are delicious, good size and fresh. They do standard menu options with a couple surprises. Sashimi is fresh and delicious, soups and rices are solid options. Everything arrives packed well. Due to the click-click-eat ease of foodler I’ve had very little interaction with staff, but delivery people are nice enough. In no less than 25 deliveries, we had just one that took over an hour to arrive, and they were very cool about it when we called to see what’s up; otherwise they’re speedy enough that the aberration that night didn’t turn us off. There are other sushi places in the area, but their consistency and quality have made them my default.

I have stopped in for lunch today. It’s hidden from the main street and the entrance is next to Shaw’s parking lot. When I went in, I found the space was small, but the ambience was quite warm and friendly. It’s quiet and only consists of 4 – 5 tables. I guess most people opt for delivery or takeout instead. However, the food is excellent. I ordered Chutoro(which is relatively rare to see in most sushi restaurants), Ika, smoked salmon, and Hirame for sashimi, and Hotate, Uni, and Ikura for sushi. The portion was decent, also the texture of each piece of sashimi couldn’t be better, just hit the spot I think. They even offered real green tea, which you could find some tea leaves in your tea cup. Great.

I have eaten at a ton of sushi places, and this one is presently my favorite. I only order ngiri or simple maki like salmon w/avocado or yellowtail w/scallion, so this review does not cover tempura, anything with spicy sauce, or other menu items. Simply put, the sushi is always extremely fresh and served in much more generous cuts than other places. The rice is just right. Usually my reviews are longer, but there’s not much more to say but that this place is a genuine sushi place. Outstanding. Note: If you eat in the restaurant, you can bring your own beer.(I would assume you can bring your own wine; I simply haven’t yet). Note 2: It’s a small place, but there is usually seating as most people seem to order take-out and delivery. I was served very quickly when I ate in-restaurant.

We rented a house within walking distance of here and had 8 people. It looked too small to fit us all in, so one night we ordered takeout. We ordered a ton of food and specifically asked for them to label the sushi rolls as we were ordering 14. The person on the phobe even explained that he could write the names of the rolls on the take out containers. We were told 30 minutes, but it turned out to be 50. When we got all the food home there were no labels on the rolls and only 13 of 14. The fried rice and Tempura dish we added were cold and my in-laws had to heat them up. The sushi was hard to determine what was what. In fairness, everything tasted just fine, but it was a complete mess for 20 minutes at home figuring out who’s food was what and then reheating some of it. Just seemed like too much for this little place.

It’s ok, I’ve had a few weird experiences for ex. no matter how busy or how slow they always say 20 minutes. I’ve now realized when they say 20 minutes I always ask«are you sure» because I’ve gone down before and waited another 30 minutes before. There Sushi is probably the best in Melrose for takeout, but better options for sitting in at places.

If you’re in the Melrose area and you’re looking for decent sushi, this is a great spot! Unlike precious reviews I ordered take-out on a Friday night and my order was ready in 15 minutes as promised when I called. The spicy tuna roll was very flavorful. I will definitely be coming back here the next time I need a sushi fix!

I love this place! For the price its a pretty good deal, the place itself is real small only a couple tables so I recommend take out. They do deliver but takes a little longer. Over all pretty good.

Moved to Melrose a few years ago and was excited that there was a sushi place in town. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the(mostly positive) reviews here. Fish just didn’t taste very fresh and specialty rolls were just blah. We only tried them once, but that was enough. We moved onto ordering from Umi in Stoneham, but now they a out of business :(.

Sushi was good. I have ordered here twice using foodler, and twice I had the same terrible delivery experience. The lady gave me attitude because she had to call me to come to the door– even though in the«notes» section I made a comment to please call because our doorbell was broken. The food was 4 star material, but the service was terrible. I won’t be ordering from them again.

A friend told me about this great sushi place in Melrose. She explained to me the location and of course I could not find it right away. It’s tucked away in the back of Main St., in the Shaw’s parking lot, a very small dingy storefront. But the food is awesome and affordable. A must: spicy tuna roll and spicy salmon roll. Also love the sea urchin sushi, outstanding. The best part about it, it’s byob. Bring a friend, a stocked cooler and chill.

I have purchased sushi here over the last 4 – 5 years. Initially, the food and service was very good, if not excellent. The orders were typically ready in abut 20 minutes and everything was fresh and hot. The last couple of times I’ve been here the service and quality has dramatically changed for the worse. Tonight I tried to phone in an order for sushi and was put on hold for ~ 10 minutes and eventually hung up, I tried to call back several times and got a message stating that the voice mail was full and they couldn’t accept my call. I only live ~ 5 minutes away so I dropped in to place my order — the were some customers at the tables and many more waiting for their orders. And people were not happy — I was about to learn why. I placed my order(spicy tuna rolls, spider rolls and tempura) and was told it would be available in, maybe 30 minutes but the girl couldn’t tell me exactly when it would be ready. I came back 45 minutes later only to find the order was not ready. In fact, she said it had not even been started. I asked for my money back and she said the order would be ready in 2 minutes. Sure enough, a bag came out of the back and I left. The spider rolls and tempura were cold and soggy. There was definitely a communication problem as the counter and probably a general lack of restaurant experience. During my previous visits I had a similar encounter. The two young boys working the counter were more interested in playing games on their smart phones than dealing with the customers. Communication was difficult, at best, and the order was late and cold. Too bad because this place used to be really good, reasonably priced, and convenient.

If you are not specifically looking for this place, you wouldn’t find it. Actually, even if you are specifically looking for it, like I was, it’s still hard to find. I had to circle around several times before spotting it tucked behind the other businesses on Main Street. Opening the door, I was surprised at just how small this place really was. There were a total of 4 tables and a small sushi bar. I think that’s why most people stick to take out. The sushi menu was pretty extensive with several special rolls and offerings at pretty reasonable prices compared to other places. The fish, what we got of it, seemed fresh, but my biggest qualm with the place was that the maki seemed to consist of mostly rice and very little fish. If I’m paying for sushi, I want to taste the fish dammit. Maybe we should have gotten the nigiri or sashimi instead, but now I’m a little skeptical. It wasn’t bad, but it definitely wasn’t the best sushi I’ve had in the area either.
