I went here earlier this year for a haircut and highlights. I thought the staff were very friendly and that the ambiance of the salon was nice. While my highlights were fine, my cut came out a bit choppy, with the layers not flowing as well as I would have expected. I am still looking for my staple salon.

While the stylist and the other staff were very friendly, the cut and color were terrible. When I called to make the appointment, I spoke directly with the owner who said that Susan was their best for clients with curly hair. If this is true, I’m afraid to see what anyone else would have done to me. The color was not what we discussed — dark brown and jet black are NOT the same color. The cut was in blunt layers, all straight across with no regard to the natural fall or volume of curly hair. By the end of the night, I looked like an extra from Tony & Tina’s Wedding — I almost cried. The next day I went straight into a different salon and had to have the color stripped and re-​done, and the cut significantly altered. I’m not only upset by awful outcome of my hair at Halo, but am also concerned with the owner’s judgement about her stylist’s abilities and areas of expertise. Never again.

This place is amazing and upbeat. The stylists are great and very knowledgable. They spend a lot of time in knowing how you want your hair done unlike so many other places.
I got my hair done by Jenna and she gave me one of the best haircuts I have had for curly hair. She also gave me some amazing tips on hair grooming and how to take care of curly hair with simple tricks.
Absolutely amazing staff and I would definitely come back!

Good place. I come to Lisa to do my haircut, it is always a positive experience! I do not want to change it as every time I get what I expect.

Love my cut! Suzie is amazing and very kind. I was looking to clean up my cut while I am trying to grow it out, she gave me a nice confidence boost and was able to give me something that didn’t take off to much length and it’s quick to style.

I met the ladies from Halo at the Victorian Fair last year and since then, the stylist I have been going to for about 8 years switched salons and is now at Halo. I can NOT say enough about Janelle. Friendly, sweet, kind, and knows what she is doing. I am VERY picky with my hair, I am the one who «wants a trim but can’t tell my hair was cut»… she gets the job done EVERY time. She remembers what I like and what I don’t like and can give a recommendation based on what she knows about me. I never ever leave there thinking «what just happened», it’s always «Ilook and feel great».
I live in Waltham and travel to Melrose JUST to see Janelle… and you will see this in all the reviews I write because I want people to know, I will travel for excellent service. If I want mediocre service, I can find something local. When I find something I like I stick with it.
Staff: Welcoming, pleasant, helpful
Location: Main St. Melrose, awesome. In the middle of everything you can literally spend the day here (get your hair done, then nails, eat, shop, etc.)
Parking: Tons. on the main street or there are lots everywhere, never had a problem parking
Waiting Area: Comfortable seats lots of great magazines to read
Esthetics: Modern, good vibe and feel
Stylist rating: 12 out of 10

I can’t say enough good things about Halo and it’s staff.
The salon itself is set on lovely Main St. in Melrose, a great location. The salon inside is impeccably clean with a super friendly receptionist. You walk in and your greeted with a smile and welcomed with warm colors on the walls and a peaceful feeling upon entering. This is very important to me because when I go to a salon it’s some of my alone time and I want to feel relaxed.
The owner Jen is great and really cares about how her salon looks, her staff and her patrons. She is very hands on and works side by side with the other stylists. She doesn’t just check in in things, she is a part of the salon.
I take my kids in to get their haircuts there. They love it my twin girls feel like beauty queens when getting their hair shampooed, cut and styled. Jenna is always so sweet to them and they always look forward to seeing her. My twins are 6 now and Jenna treats them so well. Some people only talk to the parents when dealing with kids and their hair, this is not true at Halo and not with Jenna. She treats them like they should be treated like her clients (little ones though lol). She talks to them while they’re in her chair and makes sure they’re happy.
My son who will be three and doesn’t like to get his haircut. He sees Gail, who always helps to get him ready and feel comfortable. She takes her time and is so sweet to him. She always gives him the royal treatment and makes him feel like her most important client. He loves seeing her and wouldn’t let anyone else cut his hair.
As for me, Gail is my go to hairdresser and as much of a pain in the butt I can be about my hair she is always honest about what is and is not possible. I tend to want to change my hair color often and sometimes have unreal expectations of what can be done. Gail openly listens to my ideas and helps find what would really be best and look best for me. I appreciate her caring about how I look and listening to how I’m feeling about my hair to help me find the right color.
I would recommend Halo to anyone looking for a great hair salon and a great experience. They often offer specials and are having one right now on facials.

I came here for a wedding and all the bridesmaids got their hair and makeup done. One of the ladies did my hair and it looked fantastic… for about 30 minutes. By the time the wedding occurred, my curls had fallen out and I had to try and re-​curl my hair with a flat iron. I then got my makeup done and the lady wasn’t the friendliest, but I figured she was really into my makeup. Well, again, about an hour later, my mascasa and eyeshadow had smudged. It looked like I had two black eyes… I didn’t even get to cry tears of joy for my best friend yet… so I redid my own makeup with my waterproof stuff. I even asked her if it was waterproof and she said yes! My best friend, however, looked fabulous. Her hair and makeup were great. And the same lady did our hair.
I think they are a realllly nice place with friendly staff, but for the price, I expect to not have to curl my own hair and do my own makeup.
