I don’t usually go to a cannoli as my first dessert choice… until this place. These cannolis are DELICIOUS! I would post a picture, but I cant, because I ate it already. I would take a bath in that cannoli cream. Yum.

Wish there was one in the city. Authentic Italian subs, pizza, pasta, and sweets. The best meatball sub I’ve ever had, hands down. Great, inexpensive comfort food. The service is what takes this place to 5 stars though. I came a few weeks back for my first time and everyone remembered my name, what I ordered, and made suggestions.

I love this deli. They have been in town since I was a kid. Very friendly staff. Very clean! Everything is delicious. My son loves the margarita pizza. My husband loves the meatball sub and I love the Italian sub.

Scudiero’s has withstood the test of time on this stretch of Lake St. in Melrose Park. What was once an area occupied mostly by Italians’ is now virtually all Hispanic… It is most likely the last & only Italian bakery of its kind on Lake, as I noticed the street encased with Hispanic restaurants and various businesses… Yes, you could say its been quite some time since I’ve driven down this part of Lake… I didn’t know Scudiero’s had been around since 1954! Originally named«Melrose Park Italian Bakery», and in 1978 changed to its current name… it has remained in this family of Bakers’ for generations upon generations… truly amazing… such history here and YES, same location! Did you know Frank Sinatra used to buy bread here? While I’m sure renovations have been made since the 50’s…this old school deli/bakery still reminds me of the bakeries I used to visit accompanying my mom as a child… simple…quaint, a few display cases, an assortment of freshly made breads behind the counter, some tables, no frills, no fuss… and very clean… I must admit, walking in, a moment of nostalgia struck me… Counter tops showcased jars of Scudiero’s homemade Giardiniera & pasta sauce, a display case filled with Friselle dry bread(white & wheat) used for Panzanella or simply eaten with fresh tomatoes upon soaking… Some Antipasto sides(olive, artichoke, pasta)…Decent selection of good quality lunchmeat… not a whole lot though. Same with cookies. mostly Italian butter cookies… all different shapes and toppings… there were dipped, chocolate chip, cherry topped, sesame seed, sprinkles… almond crescent and a few biscotti. Yet they all tasted the same to me. Now, I wasn’t a fan of these… but I prefer butter cookies that taste«buttery» and melt in your mouth… Italian butter cookies are much different than your average«butter cookie»… Less sugary, more flour added without tons of butter… they are like lighter versions. Scudiero’s cookies(even the chocolate chip variety) are very flakey and crumbled in my mouth, versus melted in my mouth… you may go nuts over these… I didn’t. I ordered the Italian Sub… Genoa salami, Mortadella, Ham & Provolone on a super fresh, soft, crusty French roll… I was glad to see they carried«Volpi» salami. I always buy this brand and find it to be the best tasting… Less fatty and clean taste… and yes, there is a difference in salami brands… you can find it at most Italian deli’s /markets or Caputo’s, but you won’t find it at Jewel. When I think of Subs, I think«Big…Meaty…Gigantic» sandwiches you can really sink your teeth into… Didn’t find that here. You get 4 slices total.(I counted one slice of each meat, 1 slice of cheese). I don’t like my subs overflowing with meat, however, by its nature, «Subs» should be hearty and filling… The mortadella was thickly sliced and it overpowered all other flavors here… its what I mostly tasted. Don’t get me wrong, the sandwich was decent, but I’ve had heartier subs… My slice of homemade pan cheese pizza was really good. Thicker crust, much like a focaccia style but not as tall… I loved the airy, lightly crispy bottomed crust, but then again, I love focaccia. The sauce is very mild and just coats the dough… The cheese was abundant and flavorful… this was so yummy… I’d totally get it again… They also sell round individual and pan size pizzas along with panzerotti’s…They were all in display case and upon ordering they will heat up for you… don’t be alarmed by this, it heats beautifully and retains its crust… the cheese melts just they way you want it to… gooey… I had to try one of their Cannoli’s …they fill them fresh to order… Shell was crispy and fresh and had a hint of cinnamon… filling wasn’t bad… but not great… There is no doubt Scudiero’s has a loyal following being in the area for over 60 years and I can certainly appreciate why… Staff was friendly… Prices are reasonable and fair. Everything is homemade… Cookies — $ 8.99/lb. Sub — $ 6.00. Huge slice cheese pizza $ 2.00… Nice old school Italian deli /bakery to stop in if you happen to be in the area… Cheers to Scudiero’s for 61 years!

Just tried the pizza for the first time after hearing about it for years. It was really good and enjoyed it very much. It is super thin so if you aren’t a fan of thin pizza, you probably wouldn’t like it. Wish there were some more locations closer to us. We love Italian Deli’s and bakeries. We hope to be back soon!

Very cool family owned business that knows how to make good Italian sandwiches. The cookies are to die for. I went here for the first time after moving back into this area. I compare this place to Rex in Norridge which I go to all of the time. I also have to say the customer service is good. Bottom line: Awesome home made Italian sandwiches, pizza, cookies that melt in your mouth and very friendly service. For these reasons alone I will be back soon.

Loved this place. I had a turkey sub and a biscotti and they were both great. I paid less than I would have at Subway for something comparable and the quality of the food and the service here was great. I love the«old school» Italian Deli feel it has. Definitely give this place a try!

I came here a few weeks ago for lunch; first time. The service was very friendly, and while I really liked the eggplant parm in my eggplant parm sub, I wasn’t a huge fan of the soft French bread. If I’m in Melrose Park again, I might try this sub with a different kind of bread(something with more flavor and texture).

Wow! I was extremely shocked by the great service and food! A few things to point out. 1. If you love sub sandwiches like me, then this is the place to go. They have many options to choose from. Expect to pay at least 10.00 with chips and drink. They have a ton of options. They have a huge sit area if u want to eat in. 2. Lots of options on Italian bakery here. 3. From the outside, it doesn’t seem like much. But once inside you will be shocked. Very clean. Melrose Park has changed over the years and the once heavy Italian population has moved on, but this deli has been here for SIXTY one years. 4. The owner now is a full time firefighter and he runs this deli on the side. So anyone who is a cop, firefighter, or any other public service gets mad love from me. Finally you will have to park in the residential area across the street or behind it as parking is limited around there. But very worth the trip and a must go!

Classic little Italian deli. First time you walk through the door they’ll treat you like they’ve known you forever. Seems like police come here for lunch regularly. The sandwiches are great. Soft, chewy bread, nice meats and cheeses(it’s a deli after all). They have fresh baked pizzas and other Italian fair. Also, a bunch of cookies and cannolis. It’s everything you want from a local Italian deli.

All the calzones, pizzas, sandwiches, etc. are awesome here and the price is right. Very relaxed atmosphere; they let you sit down after grabbing what you want to drink out of the fridge, then they bring you your food. You pay before you leave. I like that a lot. Everyone in there is real nice. Baked goods look nice but I haven’t tried them. A premium choice for me at lunch time at least once a week.

I ordered 10 cannolis for my bf on his birthday. They were delicious, made fresh on the spot, and finished with a dusting of pistachio and powdered sugar. They lasted 5 mins before he and his colleagues ate them all. Great little place, great cannoli!

Slicker Sams-Gone.FoodTown-Gone. Come Back Inn– Gone. Not much left in old school Melrose Park besides this place. Operated and owned by the same Italian Family this place is a neighborhood gem! Eggplant parm is my favorite, my kids like the meatball sandwich. Highly recommend it !!!

I grew up in this town and stopped by to pick up a box of cookies before leaving for my out-of-state home. I should have bought the whole case. This is the same simple, wonderful taste and texture I remember as a kid and haven’t tasted in many years. The real, genuine thing — benedicte!

This is the place for you. Fresh subs and ingredients. Some of the best in the area. Friendly owners and workers. Place has a comfortable feel and you can take your food out or eat inside. Good jarred peppers, sauces, and they got a pretty good selection of dessert items. For the price and what they give you, it can’t be beat. TOPSHELF!

I got a meatball sand which. There is actually a nice seasoning in the meatball, so it isn’t just ground beef loaded with marinara sauce in between some bread. So the meatballs are good, the sauce is not over powering, the mozzarella was good and it was paired well with a nice bread. A very good sandwhich for $ 5.50($ 6.00) with cheese. I grabbed a bag full of cookies and they were also delicious.

I have been eating there for years. Hands down the best food anywhere near or around nw suburbs. They always have the freshest bread, subs are amazing, and the Meatball sub I had today with roasted papers and mozzarella was hands down the best Meatball sub I ever ate. Plus everytime im in there someone knows me and everyone always has a story and a smile on their face. Very Family type old school sub/bakery around. If your love amazing Pizza they make their own amazing I call it Bakery warms up in your oven and taste amazing. All I can say is if you have no eaten there you wont be disappointed. Plus you can pre order for Lunch and show up and pick up and it’s ready and awesome. A+ SERVICEANDFOOD.

I’ve been coming here since I was a kid and extremely happy the family kept the same traditions of high quality products and excellent service alive even after the dad had passed away. Incredible Bakery Style Pizza, awesome subs, fresh breads, and fantastic salads. HIGHLY recommended, and so glad they are still surviving in a time when people actually eat the crap served at ‘Subway’ and think that that’s good stuff! There is NOTHING around this place worth seeing or going to, or in Melrose Park for that matter, except for Scudiero, and maybe Tom’s Steak House! Scudiero ‘s is the best! Very friendly — good people! GOTHERE! You will not be disappointed!

Kinda assumed that all the Italian bakeries left Melrose Park as I haven’t stepped foot in the area in 15 years. Its more of a half bakery/half type place. For an old place, the inside looked very clean and updated. Just got a couple cannolis and neopolitans to go. Just note that some items, their cannolis and sfogliatelle in this case, won’t be found in the case as they’re made fresh to order to ensure their freshness. The guy behind the counter was nice, had that«guy from the neighborhood,» type vibe. Cannolis and neopolitians were absolutely top notch! Made me kick myself for not getting more. Wanted to try their sausage calzones, which were a ridiculous $ 2.50. Parking is limited as I had to park on the side streets and the area has seen better days. Some of the people I encounter on the street looked & moved like were on something.

One of the best subs around. Surely the best in the area. Tiny store with pizza slices and great subs! Fresh baked Italian cookies. 5 or 6 tables for dining inside.
