Just ordered a last minute cake for tomorrow afternoon, and they were even willing to deliver it to the restauarant for my Boss’s wife’s birthday dinner. Thank you Sweet Potato Café! Very accomodating.

It’s not often that I get to the suburbs, let alone to try the local cuisine. This was my first visit to Media, PA. My companion & I had previously picnicked in Ridley Creek State Park. After dusk, we popped into Media to check out the haps. We walked up and down State Street and took in the Blues Stroll. Quaint town for sure. I spied a few restaurants I’d like to try some time(hopefully). Anyways, since we had already eaten at the park, we decided to find somewhere to have dessert. We were lured by pies and cakes at Sweet Potato Café. There was an okay selection in the drink cooler. I chose apple crumb and my companion got the carrot cake. Both were sweet and decadent. The carrot cake was ultra moist and the cream cheese icing was sweet, but not too sweet. I asked them if they baked on premises; they informed me that they do – but at their Sharon Hill store. They get 4 stars only because we had to eat out of the plastic containers and there was no presentation. Would have been nice to put them on a nice dessert dish with some whipped crème. But that’s just me being fancy. Regardless, the baked goods are divine. GO!

Disclaimer: this review is based solely on the muffins which were fantastic. I had purchased a LivingSocial deal and decided to buy their regular selection of 12 muffins. The muffins were shipped on the day I ordered them, for which they gained major points in my book.(I was undergoing a huge muffin craving at the time.) They arrived in a large, airtight box(another plus). And the muffins were huge. HUGE! But even better than quantity was the quality. These muffins were delicious. In fact, they’re the best I’ve ever had. They included several vanilla chocolate chips, blueberry, carrot cream cheese, and cranberry orange muffins. They were all so tasty but my favorite was the carrot cream cheese. It was like eating a slice of moist carrot cake in the form of a muffin. The flavors were perfectly blended together and it was oh-so moist. Definitely a must try!(Just don’t try to eat all of the muffins in a little over a week. Give some away which is a great way to make friends. Otherwise, you will start looking like a muffin.)

Just got a quart of chicken noodle soup from this place. Fantastic choice! Can’t wait to try their meatloaf sandwich.

I love this place — despite the fact that the service is a bit slow and the flatware is a bit well – plastic. But the food is delicious — the selection is amazing. The sweet potato chips are crunchy and tasty and the baked goods are just fantastic. They have a really nice selection of bottled beverages too — not just soda and juice. And the owner is so nice and accommodating. I am a loyal fan.

We purchased a fabulous crumb top cherry pie that was to die for. I have yet to experience this gem more than the pie, so I can’t say much more, but the freshness, and the quality will definitely have me heading back for more!

This is a great bakery… The food is to die for… The muffins, and pies are great… In addition to to sugary stuff, there are great luncheon choices: salad, macaroni and cheese, Great comfort food. The owners, Jeff and Virginia Deal, make sure that everything is perfect… Clean, quaint!!! A Must. Heck, I traveled from Astoria NY to sample this great fare.

We really love the black bean burgers that they serve. Everything is homemade and looks fresh. We’ve had our fave black bean burger two different ways: our first was on a bed of lettuce with no bun and the second with buns. I think we prefer them on the lettuce for lunch because the bun is always so filling with two burgers – a true meal! The sweet potato chips, and mini potato salad sides are great too, and the lemon meringue pie looks as though it would be to die for although it always looks too huge to order if you’re just in for a lunch-time treat or date out. Homemade lemonade, grapefruit juice, and other unique salads, breads, desserts(savory and sweet) and sides, fulfill the need for finding solace in interesting menu selections. Our only wish is that sometimes their hours are a bit off and they’re closed when they’re listed as «open” – and it would be cool if they had hours until 7 or 8pm to get a lite dinner occasionally, but like a few other smaller places and retailers – they close pretty early in Media. Other than that, it’s usually a great place for lunch and meeting friends. Note: for folks visiting Sweet Potato for the first time; you order at the counter, and a staff member brings the food out to your table.

I can’t say much about the Café’ portion of this establishment, as I’ve only ordered desserts, but the baked goods are some of the best in the Media area. The pie is delicious homemade goodness, and much better than anything that you could get at a supermarket or local food store. The muffins are very good, and worth getting if you’re looking for that kind of food in Media. However, by leaps and bounds, the best thing that they serve is their sweet potato ice cream. Despite it being fairly hidden on the menu(if there at all), this is the most unique ice cream anywhere near Media, and would be worth getting extra to bring home. Before judgement is past solely on the name(sweet potato… in ice cream?), let me briefly describe the flavor: it is a mix of pumpkin pie and cinnamon, which go together in a heavenly combination. All in all, this ice cream far surpasses the local standard, and is absolutely worth getting any time of the year.

Great little place. Amazing baked goods, soups and sandwiches. Owners are friendly, and were recetptive to criticism after one bad experience. They went out of their way to make it right. Definitely check this place out. Also, try the black bean burger. Delish!

Another day spent in Media on Tuesday and a new place to try! The Sweet Potato Café is stocked with all sorts of delicious pastries, breads, and prepared foods. Starving and ready for lunch, I skipped over the sweet stuff and ordered their yummy looking chickpea burger on wheat bread. Not your store-bought kind of wheat bread here — the big burger came out on thick, artisan wheat bread. The burger reminded me a bit of healthier panelle(Sicilian chickpea flour fritters) and it was deliciously seasoned. The honey mustard was good, but didn’t really complement the burger well — maybe a spicy aioli would be a better choice? A hearty serving of delicious potato salad came on the side. Needless to say, I was stuffed. I’ll be back to try more, for sure.

i’m on the fence with this place. i definitely need to order a few more times to really get a feel for it, but i’m going with a middle-of-the-road 3 stars based off of my first time… leaving room for the potential that i see. with a bevy of veg-friendly options, most of which are rather ‘different’ for the media luncherie scene, i chose to get the chick pea burger($ 5.75) on my virgin visit. all sandwiches offer your choice of bread(olive rosemary, 8 grain, rye, wheat, white, spinach, croissant, ciabatta roll, italian bread or a bagel) and i opted for the 8 grain, toasted i think. the«burger» was quite large(mostly in height) and came topped with a few lettuce leaves, tomato and [not nearly enough] honey mustard to moisten up the somewhat dry patty. quite tasty, but i recommend ordering some extra HM to dip into. it was also served with a pickle spear and small container of a fresh cabbage cole slaw on the side. when calling in the order, i learned that one of their two soup du jours was brown rice & beans. told it was«better than it sounds,» i was intrigued(and cold) and ordered a medium. at $ 2.95(only $ 45 cents more than the small?) it was well worth it. the soup was delicious and surprisingly chock full of asparagus — yum! other veg options i am sure to get soon enough include a greek pasta salad, a mediterranean cous cous salad, a grilled veggies sammie, vegetarian lasagne and more. yes… MORE! but trust me, there are plenty of meat options as well for you carnivores out there, and all are available as full or half portions. my one major complaint is this: for a place named ‘sweet potato café,’ other than the side of mashed sweet potatoes(which my co-workers swear by), this item is all but missing from the menu. no sweet potato fries or sweet potato chips. weird, right?

My wife and I have been hearing great things about this place so we decided to try it today for lunch. We got there after the lunch rush, around 2:00PM. Walking in the first thing that I noticed was how many of the tables were dirty and in need of busing. At the time they seemed to be at around 75% capacity. The menu reads very well. I ordered the Turkey Dream and my wife ordered a half Turkey Dream and small salad. 10 minutes later our sandwiches were ready. The turkey is roasted in house however it is over roasted and dry. Yet the sandwich was still pretty decent, if they don’t dry it out it would be a winner. The small side of potato salad was excellent! It is now several minutes later and a staff member is looking around anxiously, she does not remember who ordered a salad. My wife gets up and claims the salad, which was a disaster! Half the lettuce was dried out and shriveled. I will try the place one more time, but I do not hold out much hope. At the moment I would classify the place as a near miss. If they do a better job keeping the place clean and speed up their service… and remember who ordered what, it would be a good place for lunch.

Visited the Sweet Potato Café a few days ago with a friend who spoke highly of it. Was back in Media again today and decided to stop by again. The location is new and they still appear to be getting set up(the Cold Stone Creamery sign still hangs above the door) but there’s a full line of delicious treats available including cakes, pies, bagels, muffins, soup, sandwiches and assorted lunch dishes. The chocolate cream cheese muffin was good. I was a little disappointed when I saw no cream cheese in the middle but what to my fatty eyes should appear at the bottom but a second layer of schmear! Raspberry crumb muffin was even better. Moist but not in an undercooked sort of way, nice amount of crumb and just the right amount of raspberries. Reasonable prices at least on the muffins, they’re pretty big and only $ 1.50.
