Dave’s Import Service

After my Mercedes ran out of warranty, this is where I go when I am in Southern Oregon. Dave does top shelf Work and all of his people are very professional, you might pay a little more than some other places but you know that you are getting the work done right.
Brought my girlfriends 2002 330 in here with a laundry list of to do’s from the dealership that they gave me a quote for $ 8,400. We got it all done for a round 2200 bucks and everything has been solid since we have the work done about 4 months ago.
If you’re in Southern Oregon and you have something German, take it here if the dealership is no longer an option.

We started out on a ten hour drive from Medford to L.A. when the Check Engine light came on. We made a call to our excellent garage, Independent Volvo in Pasadena, who suggested we call Dave’s Import Service. Jim answered the call and was able to take us right away. We were impressed with the garage, which was clean, spacious and very well equipped. Jim was efficient and thorough. He explained there would be a $ 96 diagnostic fee and any repairs would be in addition. We left the car, went to a Starbucks nearby and they completed the job within a couple of hours. The problem was detected, the repairs were minor and cost only an additional $ 5.00. We met Dave when we picked up the car; he obviously takes pride in his operation. (We then made the ten hour drive without a hitch.)

My BMW shop told me I had to flush out my power steering system as I’d accidentally poured in a little motor oil into the power steering opening and it would cost me $ 300. We were on a family vacation and driving through Medford in very hot weather. I called around trying to find a local shop that could help us immediately. When I called Dave’s, Jim said I could bring it right over. Within an hour, the job was done. Charge? $ 120! Their driver even took us to the mall and back so we could eat lunch while we waited. Great shop!

My review:
I have a 1991 Honda CRX with an intermittent starting problem so I called Dave’s Import Service on April 23^rd 2012 and spoke with Jim Johnson the service desk manager, after describing my occasional starting problem he said I should bring it in and that there was a $ 95.00 diagnostic fee. I brought my car to them the very next day. I was told the plan was to start it each morning and try and duplicate the failure to starting problem. As my car consistently started 99% of the time we had an understanding that it may take a few days to try and duplicate the failure and I could leave it for about a week. I received a call nearly a week later and was told by Jim Johnson that they had not been able to duplicate the error and that my car continued to start up each and every time they tried. I gave them one more day with it and still no solution was found. The next day when I went in to pickup my car I was told that despite the fact the car started upon a dime each and every time they turned the key that a distributor cap was needed. The mechanic also suggested I could try and bang on the bottom of my gas tank when my unresolved starting problem happened again.
Conclusion: Despite the fact that had not found or resolved my starting problem this business felt they were justified in charging me $ 96.00 for there time and fruitless efforts. I tried to express my disdain for the audacity to charge me for a diagnosis charge that offered no resolution to my problem but the service manager Jim Johnson ignored my comment and demanded payment.
If you value honesty, professionalism, genuine courtesy, fair treatment and just a solid desire for a repair shop to do the right thing I suggest you avoid Dave’s Import Service entirely.
