Anything less that 5 stars in unacceptable. Grew up here. First time back since 1994. We hit up Eddies and then here. The chocolate is the best. So smooth and creamy. Can I leave 6 stars? I wanna go back but 600 miles is a bit to far. Do they deliver?

Simply the best! Chocolate and Vanilla daily, along with a special flavor of the day. They also offer a sherbet of the day too. There is not a time we are in the area when Hank’s isn’t on our list. Unfortunately it is only open seasonally, so get while you can! There is a reason this place has been rated #2 in the USA. Hank’s is old school custard at it’s best.

What can I say except you have to stop here and have a taste of something that has stayed unchanged since the 50’s. For Hanks to stay in business this long is a testament that they make frozen custard right! They have flavors of the day along with the standard chocolate and vanilla. They also make a variety of different sundaes, floats, splits, etc. no dine in. Order at the windows and find a spot in the parking lot or under some shady trees. Be sure to read the history of the place that is posted in the windows. Also check the license plate list to see if your state has been crossed off. You won’t be disappointed! Last item, yes those are the original machines chugging away inside.

What a fun experience! I really enjoyed the old time feel of Hank’s Frozen Custard. Even the staff is dressed in old time garb. The frozen custard machines are so lovely and fun to watch. Aside from the iconic status of this restaurant is the delicious frozen custard. It’s as good as it gets! I enjoyed a delicious Hot Turtle Sundae — vanilla frozen custard topped with hot caramel and hot fudge, sprinkled with chopped pecans. It was exactly what I needed on a hot western PA day. I will definitely make this a regular stop when in the Conneaut Lake area.

I mean, this place is iconic. Probably one of the few highlights I have when I work up in Linesville on Pymatuning Lake. A quintessential summer eatery.

I was in Meadville in late April, and traveling overnight from sunny SoCal via Chicago to Rochester, then driving down to Meadville in flurries was recipe for an awful plague. I had a dreadful cold, and then spent my day in chilly rooms, which didn’t help. But by my last night in Meadville, I thought I was turning a corner, so I treated myself to Hanks. I had a s’mores sundae and it was the best thing I’d eaten all week. That’s not an actual slight on Meadville restaurants, but more of a sign of coming out of my sickness. The ice cream(err, custard!) was smooth and the flavors were amazing. And although it was early in the season, I was amazed at how many different states’ license plates they had already collected! Life may well take me back to Meadville in the future, and that future seems brighter because Hanks is there.

So delicious. I was visiting nearby for a long weekend. I made it a point to come back here 2 times. The frozen custard is that good. Its light, fluffy and not overly sweet. Even a small is pretty big! I love the changing flavors too! My favorite is the black cherry and chcolate. Worth the drive.

Hanks is always an obligatory stop when in Meadville but this time found it to be not as good. Maybe my taste buds have changed or something but gave it one less star.

Here’s the thing. There’s regular ice cream and then there’s homemade custard from Hanks. Regular ice cream just doesn’t hold a candle to this. And with any variety of ice cream/custard I go all in! There was a pretty impressive list of sundaes that all looked incredible. But my eyes went straight to the salted caramel brownie sundae. Dear Lord was it amazing! Homemade goodness through and through. Two LARGE and in charge homemade brownies with custard and caramel. The only thing I wished was that there would have been a touch more custard involved. Although I have a suspicion there might have been more at first but then the custard melted with all the hot caramel. I mean, still, no one forced me to eat the whole thing! It’s a huge portion too, so come hungry! I know it’s good when I keep thinking about it… and that sundae will haunt my dreams forever.

You can never go wrong with Hanks. There’s a reason that they’re famous. Go discover why yourself!

This place managed to make everyone happy. I happen to like soft serve which I know some scorn — but if I want to go out for ice cream my preference is vanilla soft serve with rainbow sprinkles(ideally at Kennywood but I’ll take what I can get). My husband prefers something fancier. Hanks is the best of both worlds, the texture of soft serve but with more of a home made taste. I had vanilla, husband and one kid had chocolate, the other three kids had raspberry. All were yummy. My only disappointment was that it was so freaking hot I had to gobble my cone like a hog so it didn’t melt, and didn’t really get to savor it, so I guess we’ll just have to come back. Prices were good, two bucks for a small(one scoop), I think 3.19 for a 2-scooper. Hoping on one of our journeys we’ll manage to catch them on cherry day

Black raspberry was very good, as was the vanilla custard. Probably the smoothest vanilla I’ve ever had.

Hanks is in Conneaut! Did you hear me??? HANK’S ISINCONNEAUTLAKE!!! Okay, I haven’t been to Conneaut for more years than most of you have probably been alive. Hank’s wasn’t at Conneaut back in prehistoric times. It is NOW! The extended family, including a 93 year old aunt, all piled into the car(yep, adults crammed into even the wayback!) and acted like kids again deciding which flavors we each wanted and in what form. I got black cherry sherbert and that heavenly vanilla custard that you watch snake ever so slowly out of the gleaming chrome German-imported magic machines. It looks and tastes exactly as it did when I used to go to New Brighton to the original Hank’s. Smooth, creamy vanilla heaven. The black cherry sherbert was very good, but I made the mistke of tasting my husband’s tangerine sherbert… WHAM!, a blast of sweet, tart and tangy deliciousness! The tangerine was so good, that my cousin’s husband and I both ordered quarts to go… and then made whipped cream VODKA/tangerine sherbert drinks during the Steelers game. Mmmmmm. Okay, confession time… I have to admit the next day we stopped on the way home for a cone and a dish to enjoy as we drove back to Pittsburgh all the while talking about the great weekend at the lake AND Hanks!

I’m not even that big a fan of ice cream, but Hank’s is AWESOME. Anyone who doesn’t like it is just hating. I mean, this stuff is killer good. This place has been a staple in the Meadville Area since I was born, since my parents were born, and since my grandparents were younger than me. Hank’s makes its ice cream in these awesome old machines built in the 1920s. Go there for some vintage nostalgia, smooth creamy ice cream, and 3 bucks in your pocket cause that will get you two scoops and that’s all you will need to make you a believer.

Now Hanks is frozen custard worth going out of the way for! It’s a PA tradition and has been for many generations. I’m not up there much, but when I am my family makes it a point to stop here as many times as possible! I mean, what’s an Eddie’s hot dog without Hanks Frozen Custard? It’s like horse and carriage, meant to be together! First of all this is some of the best tasting, smoothest frozen custard you will ever have, let alone ice cream! They serve chocolate, vanilla, and a flavor of the day. The flavor of the day is always superb and there’s nothing better than a 2 scoop cone with the flavor of the day paired with Vanilla or Chocolate! The service at Hanks is awesome. These gals KNOW service! They are super friendly and can hold 5 cones in one hand, and make change with the other. I have never seen or have even heard of one of them dropping a cone or even a penny at checkout! Hanks looks like it is in what used to be a little old farmhouse. If you look closely through the windows, you’ll see that the frozen custard machines look like something out of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate factory! The rumor is they are from the late 1800’s and that they are the only one of their kind in the world! Now, I’m not sure if that’s 100% true, but it adds to the magic! If you are anywhere in Northwestern PA, a stop here must be a priority! PS: Hanks is closed every Tuesday, and they are also closed all winter long. Thought I can’t give you exact dates on that, sorry!

Yeah, Hanks is that good. Located outside of Meadville near Conneaut Lake, Hanks is a local landmark. People line up 20 deep to get the best custard around. But Hanks doesn’t let their popularity get the best of them – small cones go for $ 1.70. Everyone who works there is incredibly friendly and competent. Plenty of lawn and shade if you want to get off the road. The Mexican Sundae is excellent.

Hank’s custard is the best there is. Its unlike any other frozen dessert I have tried. They’re caramel custard and apple pie sundaes are my favorites. If you’re anywhere near Meadville, Hank’s is a must stop.

Man o man what a treat! A great family friend is visiting from back East and he was ever so kind enough to bring us back some Hanks Frozen Custard. This stuff is so darn good if someone ever asks you to join them on a trip to Pennsylvania you better go ASAP just so you can try Hanks Custard. I was lucky enough to try the coveted Black Raspberry Frozen Custard and it was pretty much unlike any frozen treat I have ever had. The texture was perfection. The flavor of the black raspberries tasted as if you were to just eat a berry off the vine. It was thick, rich in flavor, yet creamy, yet icy. Again it was perfect. He also brought us some Sherberts and they were by far the best Sherberts I have ever had. Pennsylvania can make a mean sherberts I tell ya. The Black Cherry Sherbert was by far my favorite but the Red Raspberry and Lime followed up in a close second. Hanks Frozen Custard has many years of history as the shop dates back to 1952! I read online that they still use the original equipment purchased way back then to make the custard they do today. They also close for the winter as they head to Florida for warmer weather. I hope I can make it to the actually Hanks shop one day but if not I was lucky enough to have Pennsylvania finest frozen treat at my home in sunny California.
