This was a very nice place to go to I’m sorry they closed if you go there with a couple the prices are ok if you go with 6 people or 8 or 12 you could spend three to five hundred dollars for dinner

If you are used to good or even decent sushi, avoid Kame. The sushi and sashimi are pretty poor quality. They mostly make rolls, where the poor quality can be masked. The service is not very good either. There are far better restaurants in the area.

FRESH !!! You can taste. NO awful sauces, mayonnaise, or gimmicky rolls on the menu. If you have ever been to other«sushi» restaurants and had«sushi» deep fried, drowned in sauces or smothered with mayonnaise it’s because they are masking sub par fish. People who know about real Authentic Japanese food will love Kame. For other Amateurs who are drawn to

If you absolutely must have sushi and don’t feel like driving I suppose a stop here would be acceptable. The service is mediocre but usually friendly. The sushi is okay at best. A rainbow roll or something simple is passable but overpriced. No creativity or special rolls that I have seen in my visits. Last time I went when craving sushi was my last trip. $ 50 for sushi for two and it wasn’t good. I will pass or drive 40 minutes to get quality sushi creatively prepared. Reviewers who give this more than two stars have never had good sushi and need to expand their horizons.

When I get my craving for some sushi this is the option in McMinnville, It has a good selection of roles and the fish is usually fresh, Also they have some pretty decent drinks here such as fresh squeezed grapefruit juice Martinis

Stopped in for dinner on a week night, the service was good and food was fresh. Definitely on the pricey side especially the specials.

This review is based on my experience a few years ago prior to the change in restaurant location. I love this Japanese family owned restaurant in McMinnville and went there a lot during college. I have since traveled outside of the area to Portland and Kansas City and still think of this place as in the top 3 of my favorite sushi places. If you compare it to other sushi places at similar prices, this is my favorite. They don’t use any imitation crab like they do at some places to cheapen the price of the roll. It always has a lot of flavor and makes the best spicy tuna roll! I compare every sushi place to this one. It is sad for me to see negative reviews about the place because it truly is a McMinnville gem in my eyes. When I come back to visit I am definitely making a stop here.

Absolutely horrid! No décor to speak of, then we get seated. There is one table ahead of us. We are told the special is Scallops tonight. He forgot to mention it was an appetizer and not a dinner nor did he correct the person ordering. 5SMALL scallops swimming in a sauce with no taste to match the no taste of the scallops. Never saw our waiter again for the rest of the night until he served us 35 minutes after ordering. Finally found a woman waiter to give us refills of tea. My food was barely edible, the tempura was decent but way way overpriced at $ 25.00. Woman waiter was wonderful, food had no taste! Will never go to this place again! I would suggest you don’t even try this one, wait for Portland or even Momiji’s on the Coast.

My wife and I love Kame. We have been eating here for years, starting in their original location, and now on Third Street. The tempura is good, but we usually order the sushi. Everything is prepared to order, but we do not go there because we are in a hurry, we go to enjoy a great meal. Low key service and atmosphere, but always very friendly and comfortable.

I was told to go here for a few friends and I am so glad I listened. What a great way to end our trip to McMinnville. I have never been to a friendlier restaurant by far. The waitress was super soft spoken and we could not hear her but then the sushi chef took over and was beyond helpful. I was happy the couple next to us left because out of the whole empty restaurant the server sat us next to a noisy couple but they left very fast so no biggy. The food was great. I have had better tempura by far but their chicken katsu was amazing and we ordered sashimi and several rolls which were all phenominal. Food was a touch spendy but considering it is the only sushi restaurant around and they have great food — I cannot blame them there either. The owners though make this place great — we chatted with them the whole time and were even talking about different Japanese restaurants we like in Portland. One helpful hint to know is that they will not split your bill unless your check is over $ 75 so bring cash unless you are eating for four!

We go to Kame because it’s convenient, not because it’s the best sushi around. The staff is very friendly and the sushi is fine. Sometimes waiting for your food is an issue even when the restaurant doesn’t seem to be busy. We’ll go back, though.

We had a terrible experience here. We stopped in on a Friday on the way to the beach — restaurant was not crowded at all when we arrived. We have two children, and so ordered hot dishes right away, and about 5 minutes later put in a sushi order. Hot dishes came out. No sushi. 15 minutes later, no sushi. At this point no one was making eye contact with us or even apologizing. After about 30 minutes we said we had to leave, kids were getting restless and we had just wanted a quick bite. They said the rolls would be out soon. 10 minutes later(this is literally 40 minutes after the food had come out and been eaten) still no rolls. Finally they boxed them up for us and we took our overpriced and mediocre sushi to go. There were no apologies, no comp, no acknowledgment of mistake. I just don’t understand this because it would have been so simple to rectify the situation. And, on top of everything else, prices are high for extremely average(and small) sushi.

Stopped by here on the way to the coast. Will never return. I would’t recommend anyone go here unless they were desperate for sushi. While the food was reasonably good, the experience and service was so poor I rate it as some of the worst I’ve ever experienced. Combined with the astronomical prices there’s really no reason to go here. After placing an order for a hot dish and a few rolls/pieces we received the former, but never the latter. When we asked about our sushi they seemed to have forgotten about the order, but said it would just be a few minutes. 15 minutes later we were still waiting, and having finished the rest of our meal, insisted we needed to continue on our way. At this they informed us that our order was ready, and they would just«box it up so you can enjoy it in the car.» We received no apology or even acknowledgment of the mistake. I guess when you’re the only game in town you can treat your customers like shit and not worry about it. For me, that’s a deal breaker.

This is a fabulous, if somewhat hard to find restaurant. The outside can best be described as unpretentious, but the inside says these guys are serious about Japanese food, and they don’t disappoint. What little I’ve had of the sushi was great. I need to get back and try some more. You can eat at the sushi bar, or order with the little sushi scorecard from the tables and booths. You can also get tempura, and a variety of noodle and other dishes, and great specials featuring the catch of the day. Everything I’ve had here was great. On my most recent visit my wife and I had the special dinner for two, $ 47 including desert. It was fabulous, sort of a Japanese 7-course dinner. The sushi that comes with this dinner is sort of pedestrian, but that’s probably so they don’t scare of the folks who aren’t sushi-lovers. There were nearly half-a-dozen different sauces, all unique with subtle and complex flavors. If you enjoy any part of the spectrum of Japanese food, this is your place.

My boyfriend and I love this place and have been coming here for years. They’re always super friendly and forthcoming with advice about their drinks and specials. I love the tempura vegetables, the miso soup, and the udon noodles, but the sushi is fantastic. Crisp, fresh, always delicious. We haven’t been let down yet. Our favorite is the dragon roll, but some of their newer options were also very tasty. We were sad to move away from this place, but we’ll make it a point to visit.

Ambiance was fine — seating isn’t great. Was not offered a table or booth, we were seated at the sushi bar. Staff was nice, but waited over an hour and a half for 2 rolls. I believe the order was not submitted to the sushi chef because my date received his order from the kitchen within a reasonable amount of time. Server was apologetic but no comp offered, which under the circumstances would have been appropriate. Restaurant not busy. Overpriced and not many sushi/sashimi options. Rolls were sloppily assembled. Will just go to Portland from here on out for sushi.

McMinnville has a couple of cool places to eat, and for the crowd that is doing the wine tasting, those places are nice. But when it comes to getting a nice lunch while doing business in town, this place should not be overlooked. The food is very clean and fresh, which is pretty much mandatory for a sushi place. My co-worker and I got there around noon, and we found the place to be very quiet. I was worried at first, but when we got served, it was clear that this place knew what they were doing. My go-to standard is tuna and salmon sashimi, and both were simply awesome! My co-worker was enjoying his spicy tuna rolls. This is also a family owned restaurant, and they are very open and friendly with their guests. This may be the go-to place here in McMinnville for me while I am on business. Nice, affordable lunch. Very tasty. Very clean. Very good.

Who knew I could get such good sushi in Wine Country? This place rocks. They moved locations not too long ago and their new spot feels warm and elegant. Apparently, a local woodworker created some of the amazing pieces that remind me of what you might find in a very old, traditional restaurant in Japan. The staff is very friendly and nice to chat with. My sushi chef was in training and I wondered what that would be like, but his rolls were mouth-wateringly delicious and well-crafted. The Japanese-English banter of the staff was fun. Mieko’s spicy tuna was delicious, as was the Kame roll. I can’t wait to come back here !

I’ve known the owners of Kame’s since I was little. So has my grandma and most of my family. It’s a family run restaurant, so it’s homey and cozy, and the food is remarkable. Try anything on the menu, you can’t go wrong. The grilled salmon, although pricier, is VERY worth it. They bring water in gorgeous glass bottles, and the sushi is succulent and tender, the beer cold and refreshing, and the atmosphere is very authentic :] They have picky hours — They open at 5 or 5:30PM and I’m pretty sure they’re closed on Monday’s.
