The Great Outdoors has a great concept. Your sandwich meat is sliced in front of you with a deli meat slicer. Then your cheese is sliced off as well. They use fresh baked bread to prepare your sandwich delight. That is all light years above Subway and Quiznos. My only problem is that I love meatball subs. I love the Great Outdoor’s sauce and meatballs, but I always forget to get it toasted and then my sub disintegrates in my hands. I wish they would ask me if I wanted it toasted. Then I would remember to get it that way so it would keep the yummy goodness of meatballs and sauce in the bun. My boys favorite part of the Great Outdoors is the Blue Bell Ice Cream Shakes. They love to get their favorite ice cream in a hand spun shake.

Oh that was soooo gooood. The meat was fresh. I loved the way that they shred the lettuce. Customer service was amazing. When I’m in the area I will make it a point to stop here again.

Ordered cheese steak and grilled chicken sandwich. Both great. Fabulous service and great homemade ice cream, coffee and strawberry!!!

Great sandwich, very similar to Jersey Mikes. The bread is a little more chewy than most sandwich places, which is the way I like it. Clean and very nice staff.

The Great Outdoors is hands down the BEST sandwich in all of DFW! Their bread is insane it’s so good! Baked fresh daily, the yeasty sub rolls make the sandwich perfection. The Outdoorsman is my fave!

I have been going to different Great Outdoors locations since I was a little kid! The sandwiches are always amazing! However, location has some of the worst customer service I’ve ever had in the drive thru. It is so convenient, but the people helping you are always so rude! Our drinks spilled and were passed into our car dripping wet, and when our sandwiches were brought out a young man opened the window, held out the sandwiches, and walked off without a word. I would sum up the drive thru experience here in one word: stressful. We also realized our sandwiches were not made the way we had ordered them upon arriving home.

Deli sandwich shop with a good selection that includes salads, sides like potato salad, dessert like locally made ice cream and breakfast items. They also have a drive thru which is convenient. I like the toasted croissant chicken salad sandwich. Will return to keep trying other items till I find«the one.» I wish they had hot pepper relish, but aside from that; good/fan.

Everything about the great outdoors wAs prefect. My sub was everything I was craving. The works is a must I was iffy about it but definitely do not regret my decision. My daughter who is too got a peanut butter banana honey sandwich and she ate the whole thing. And how can you go wrong with free ice cream for kids!!!

Food is fresh cut and good. I had the chicken salad croissant. Got it toasted and made a difference. Fully dressed this sandwich was good. Good ice cream and get double punches on Tuesday

I adore this place! They make some of the best sub sandwiches ever. I am usually just a «just the meat and cheese» type of person because I don’t trust the veggies and extras at many places. But at Great Outdoors, the lettuce is always fresh and crisp, the tomatoes and cucumbers always taste like they came from the farmer’s market, and they have amazing cheese and spice blends. My favorite cold sub is the #1 — it has salami and spiced ham. This location also serves locally-made ice cream. I don’t eat ice cream a lot but I have had one mint-chocolate-chip come from Great Outdoors and it was super tasty! My husband highly recommends the meatball sub with the Italian pepper blend… For those of you who like a lot of flavor on your sub. ;) Also — they serve IBC root beer here! It’s the perfect finish to a sandwich you can always count on to be delicious! :) Enjoy!

I had never been to Great Outdoors, but was craving a cold sub and read about this place on Unilocal.Glad I gave it a try! The staff was friendly and was able to explain some things off the menu. The cashier was sweet and made small convo with my 2 year old son. Repeat customer here :)

Great Sandwiches! REAL deli meats and cheeses. Great Reuben! Walk in, stand in line, order your sandwich, grab it and the drink at the end. Easy peasy.

It’s really hard to say who I like better. The Great Outdoors or Jersey Mikes. But this place is closer so I would say location wins. I have yet to try a bad sandwich here, plus they got Henry’s ice cream. This location specifically though… I love when the area supervisor is in. I usually run into him around the lunch hours. He makes the sandwich perfect. Every now and then you get a sloppy sandwich, but not that guy.

Over priced for what you get. Over rated and I just do not see or taste what these others see and tasted. I am sorry I wish they were good but I am looking for substance at these prices and not getting it at the Great Outdoors.

This place holds some nostalgia for me, so I’m a little biased. The main reason I come here is not for their sandwiches, its for their deliciously addicting Malts. They use Blue Bell ice cream for their shakes and malts, so how could you go wrong? When I don’t care how many calories I intake that day because I-work-hard-and-I’ve-earned-it-dammit, then I come here and get a large strawberry malt and a sandwich on the side. :) For sandwiches, I usually get the Invention w/the works. Pretty good quality meats, veggies and bread. Win-win situation. Prices are a little steep, but that damn malt is worth it.

This has been a family favorite for years. We can each find the type of sandwich for our tastes. They have a huge selection of standards and can custom the toppings to your liking. With the buffet-line-type approach, you can see it being made and make choices as you go. «The Works» gives a nice seasoning combination of oils, vinegars, sprinkled cheeses, lettuce, tomatoes and onions. There are a few optional toppings at a modest additional price. They can be heated if you prefer subs hot. For those who like ice tea, they have fresh brewed that’s always fresh and never flavored. This is a weekly stop for us. Give ‘em a try!

Let me start off by saying, I am not a sandwich person but my husband loves them, and whenever he is craving a sandwhich(and we don’t want to drive all the way to Denton for New York Sub) then the great outdoors is my choice. Lots of choices and a good tasting sandwhich

Please don’t hurt me, but I kind of think Great Outdoors is overrated. The sandwiches aren’t like«THEBEST» sandwiches I’ve ever had, and they’re kind of overpriced. And God forbid you want something extra… then you’re paying WAY more. The people who work there are really nice, and I do eat there; I just make sure I get something on the menu with no additions/substitutions.

The Great Outdoors is our favorite sandwich place by quite a margin and having one in McKinney is a delight. This location is more spacious than some of the older ones and the décor is a bit nicer as well. The staff is efficient and friendly and the subs have real substance to them. A wide range of meats, veggies, and ingredients on delightful breads really makes the taste buds sing.
