I really like the way this museum has evolved. This museum is really reaching out to the community to reflect on a shared experience, as opposed to just«talking at you». The current administration has really gained a lot of focus. The museum used to be a lot like my grandmother’s attic, no offense meant to the folks who worked so hard to keep it going back then. Now, the whole museum focuses on a single-themed exhibit at a time and the artifacts are relevant and meaningful within the context of the exhibit. For instance, this past spring’s exhibit was about the Civil War. All of the exhibits told a piece of Collin County’s and Texas’s part in that history. In the basement, they had a hands-on exhibit where you could pick up examples of the guns they carried.(They were a lot heavier than I expected them to be). They are very kid-centric. This museum has always been a big field trip destination and they have had«Hank the Cowdog» in a couple of times to tell stories to the kids on the weekends. I think that that is a regular thing. They also schedule lectures for adults on varied themes.
