Orchids For the People

Absolutely gorgeous Orchids, and it was fun to go to their Open House and see all of their Greenhouses, but, nothing was marked! Their staff seemed friendly, and overly knowledgeable, but couldn’t even tell us what was for sale and what was off limits except to rip things out my my husband’s hands and say. «No. that’s mine!» And, after checking out and having to let some really treasured finds go because the total was too high for what we’d budgeted fr the day, my husband discovered (after we’d driven home) that they’d done the math wrong at check out and had overcharged him! He really could have afforded the things he’d left behind if they’d just know how to use a calculator!
Later that day, they called me to say I’d won an orchid in their drawing. I live an hour and a half away, and asked if I cold come back in a month to pick it up. They told me, instead, to text them my mailing address instead. They would ship it! That would have been cool, kind of makes up for being overcharged. but, they never sent it. never wrote back to me…
The kicker was the snails. My husband grows orchids in a Vivarium, and knew better than to just add his new finds to the environment. He put them in a holding tank and was REALLY glad he did. One of them had a really bad tiny snail infestation. Had he not been so cautious, it would have ruined his entire set-​up!
Sucks… their flowers are sooo gorgeous… And my husband really wanted to tap in to a local distributor…

Welcome to an orchid wonderland! What a gem of a place… I was just exploring stuff in McKinleyville and saw their reviews on Unilocal so I decided to check it out. The drive over was interesting (dirt road) and the location intriguing… The owners are a husband and wife team who are awesome and incredibly knowledgeable about the plants. It’s the real deal here! I was too intimidated to take an orchid home so I settled with a couple air plants for now. Once I get settled I might sign up for their Orchid rental program… think Netflix but for orchids. They make you an arrangement and when you are done with it, you can return it and get something else unlimited times– kinda cool for those of us who can’t keep orchids alive to save our own lives!

The most stunning arrangement of vibrant orchid plants was delivered to my door for Valentines Day! I can’t believe the beauty of these blooms! They were super helpful with my boyfriend who was in Hawaii with calls and text photos of different flowers… I couldn’t be more pleased and overwhelmed with these gorgeous orchids.

One if the coolest live plant places in the area. This small independent family run business is located in Dow’s Prairie out behind the airport in McKinleyville — take Norton out past the golf course and follow the road around until you see the signs.
Orchids For the People is just that — you can literally spend hours walking through the green houses — viewing and enjoying 100s of species of orchids inside one place. Its such a cool space to check out and find that one of a kind living treasure of your own. Unlike cut flowers, these amazing beauties seem to bloom forever and with just a little effort as I have found.
I have purchased different orchids on three separate occasions here over the past year and each one has been a beautiful specimen that lasted for several weeks and even months, was relatively low maintenance and easy to care for. I just followed the instruction sheet they provided and mother nature did the rest. Not one of them ran me more than $ 25 either. The range is about $ 15-​$ 25 depending on the size. You can rent them for large events as well I believe.
The great folks at OFtP made it possible — their knowledge and attention to detail instructions made my caring for these delicate beauties not only easy but they are all still alive and growing — just waiting to see if they will re-​bloom again!
Now, I’m looking forward to adding our next orchid (or two) for the holidays!

Local gem! Great folks here, all very friendly and helpful. Spectacular collection of smells, frills, and oddballs. Lovely family business, the owner will always be sure that you pick the most healthy specimens.
Nowhere can you find more beautiful rarities for many miles, plus they offer the classic varieties (Phalaenopsis, Miltonia, Dendrobiums etc).
Go support a local family, and bring some beauty into your life! Worth it!

Orchids for the People has a leasing program which allows my business, Orange Cup Coral Salon and Spa in Eureka, to always have beautiful, healthy, flowering orchids. Valerie arrives weekly to water and ensure their health. When the plants are past blooming they will be replaced.
