Pizza is average. Service is sketchy/slow. Waitress ignored us for 15 minutes before an other patron seeing my frustration flagged a waitress down for me!(small place she was clearly ignoring us by walking right past as I waved at her) It is a dungeon down there and since you are going down a flight of stairs it is not elderly or disability friendly.

Cool place to eat pizza. You walk down the stairs of this old building not sure what to expect. Very cool mural on the wall. Many people in Mchenry say this is the best pizza around. I have had a lot of pizza in my day. I would say that it is very good but not all that memorable. When my family and I go out for pizza this is not the first place that comes to mind. Solid pizza but that is about it.

Just visited this weekend and enjoyed our experience. Everything we ordered was delicious. The service was great. The Fox hole is in an interesting historic building.

I ordered family size pizza with half pepperoni and sausage and half pinapple with ham. Pizza arrived piping hot on top and perfectly crispy on the bottom. I’ve tried a couple pizza places in Mchenry, but so far this was the best.

Place is on lower level. Was too hot when we walked in. Ribs excellent. Wings good. Bartender real nice. Drink prices fair. Pizza looked good but didn’t order one to eat.

Good pizza, fried green beans, salads, cheddar bites and wine. Service is pretty good plus they deliver.

Great thin crust pizza. Location is kind of weird but it’s worth it for the pizza. Staff was also friendly.

Our pizza was great until my friend bit into a slice of pizza with a long hair… Underneath the cheese. Made me almost puke watching them pull it out of their mouth. Disgusting! If I could put zero stars I would.

Hands down the best pizza in town, has been for some time. The BLT pizza is fantastic, as well as many of their other specialty pizzas. They deliver to a large area as well. Nothing McHenry compares

Oh my their food is so tasty! Their pizza is AMAZING! Best pizza in McHenry! Perfect thin crust with a great sauce and great amount of topping and cheese. When you walk down into the restaurant/bar you aren’t sure what to expect, but I can guarantee you good food and friendly service, because we’ve been there dozens of times over the years and each time we are greeted by friendly happy servers… and each time we try something new we like it. When they have rib night, my kids beg to go!

I went to Foxhole earlier today with a girl friend. We both ordered some of their, what I think, specialty drinks– fully loaded bloody Mary and mimosas. Each of us got 2 drinks. We each ordered an appetizer and we each got a meal. Our bartender was very kind. We tipped well and received a free shot, which wasn’t what we were looking for, but it was a nice gesture. Our drinks were amazing, the appetizers were extremely tasty, and the meals were very filling! There was plenty of food served and large portion sizes. I very much enjoyed my experience there today and would absolutely go back in a heart beat.

Just great! It’s like a bunker that serves pizza. Really, really delicious pizza. A bunker with a bar. And a super friendly, cute bartender. I learned that this establishment has been recently remodeled after a big fire, the interior is historic looking, but clean and well lit. But not TOO well lit, it’s still a bar/restaurant, people! Lots of history in the building as well. The cheese curds(they call them«nugs» which I thought was amusing) were tasty, but not the bubble gum consistency that I adore. Still, they were full of cheesy goodness. The pizza, WHOA. Thin crust, delicious, gooey cheese and a spicy-fresh sauce. Canadian bacon, green olives and mushrooms, sliced in squares. Just great. Served piping hot on a rack. 12″ pie is perfect for two. Really great pizza that has a handmade appearance and consistency — which, yes. Very, very good. And on this day, we opted for club soda after a wild weekend. It’s amazing how cheap restaurant bills are if you eschew the booze for once.

Wasn’t sure what to expect when I first walked into the foxhole. It’s in the basement of the building, has low lights and a cozy setting. I went there to see a friend of mine sing on Wednesday night. We ordered some drinks and a pizza. Let me tell you, it was amazing! We ordered a medium and ate the whole thing. Now, the pizza isn’t very filling, I feel like I can just keep eating more and more, and I DID! But the taste is just wonderful. We ordered another medium pizza and finished that and then we were quite satisfied. But you have to go there and try it! You will not regret it! Also, the owner is always there and super friendly. What more can you ask for? Great service, friendly staff, delish pizza… pretty amazing!

Hey baby, what’s happening? What’s that you say? You wanna take me to the foxhole? Interesting… Oh. Pizza. Okay, I’m good with pizza. Is it good pizza? This is McHenry, how can there be good pizza out here? Wait, where are you taking me? A deserted hotel? I’m gettin’ kinda nervous about this. We go in here? This little canvas entry that looks like a phone booth? Oh… there’s stairs leading down — I’m game. Hey, this is pretty cool — looks like it’s been here forever. I bet it’s haunted. Is it haunted? If it is, that’s cool. If not, that’s okay too. Yea, let’s go past the horseshoe bar and set down over here. Oh hi! Yes, I’ll have a beer. Wow! This is cold! Refreshing! Sure, let’s order a pizza. It’s not gonna be one of those frozen pub pizzas, is it? Hmm… this menu has some interesting choices — I’m game for anything, kiddo. Order what you like. Thin crust? Sure. Sausage and mushroom? Why not? Can we add green peppers? Cool. That’s a pretty interesting mural over there. What the hell is that? Oh, it’s this place from the outside in more halcyon days. I see now. Not too loud in here, lotta people chewing and… holy shit — look at what they’re eating?! These things come on a steel rack? Wow, the smell is driving me crazy. Ah, here it is. Let’s dig in. Whoa! Crispy crispy crispy — and this sauce! Look how far I can stretch this cheese! Cool, huh? Mmm, I can’t get enough of this. Mow mow mow mow mow mow mow… More! Damn this is good! Where you goin’ baby? You just gonna take me into the Fox Hole and go away? Come back! We’ll have more pizza! Honest! Whaddya mean I paid more attention to the pizza than you? What’s that supposed to mean? It was YOUR idea! Sigh. I guess I’ll just order another pizza. And a beer. How about a pepperoni with anchovy this time?

If I’m giving a review based strictly on the pizza, it’s 5 stars all day! The thin crust pizza is a rare treat — truly the best pizza I have ever had. I recommend sausage, bacon and garlic with an ice cold Sam Adams. The perfect way to spend a night with friends. You can’t honestly go into the basement of a hundred year old building and expect glamour. The atmosphere is exactly what you’d expect, but you’ll find the salt of the earth down there. Some of the nicest staff and regulars you could hope to meet.

We had excellent service! Food is average. We went on a Saturday night around 6:30. It was busy but we were seated immediately. We had a large pizza and it was okay. Not the best but not bad, only complaint is it’s the crust wasn’t crunchy. Our service was great. We never waited for anything. Overall it was a positive experience just not the very best pizza I’ve had.

Its that smell that gets ya, ya know? When you walk past a place like this that has been around forever, making pizza. It’s a combination of the sauce, the yeast in the dough, and even the beers being poured from the tap. You know you’re gonna get a good pizza… We kept it real and got the ‘classic’. Green pepper, onion, mushroom and sausage. I’ve come to the realization that in order for a pizza to be a GREAT pizza, it must have sausage. And it’s gotta be good sausage. It needs to have enough spice, not too fatty and not too small of pieces. Foxhole did it right. they just do. Ya know what… just do yourself a favor, go to the Foxhole, sit at the bar, order a beer, talk with the bartender will your wait for you pizza to come out of the oven and enjoy.

Went here a few nights ago because a date had a taste for pizza. Of course, I did my Unilocal research and my fellow reviewers raved about the pizza. I’ve lived in the area on and off for 6 years and have never been to Foxohole, so off we went. Of course, we came with the understanding that it was probably a dive, but I love me some hole-in-the-walls, so no complaints there. We sat at the bar and had a few drinks. The bartender was cute and funny, and we had a good time chatting with some locals. The live music(40s-ish guy playing acoustic covers) was also somewhat entertaining. We ordered a large thin-crust pizza with pepperoni, green peppers, and mushrooms. Meh. It left a LOT to be desired. I only kept choking it down because, quite frankly, I hadn’t eaten since lunch and by that time it was 8pm. + drinking beer… yeah, I needed something to fill the tummy. My date took the uneaten half of it home and I’m not sure he even delved into it again. BEST in McHenry? Not based on this experience. I’ll probably stick with Jimano’s, which is always a solid choice.
