So… this was my first trip to the barber. I came here because my friend’s little boy gets his hair cut here… i know, great reason for a grown ass woman to go, but I was nervous and wanted to go somewhere where someone, anyone, was familiar. For some reason, I just was too lame to walk into a barber shop alone and articulate my needs. Go figure. I basically wanted a mohawk… but not like the Mr. T kind, and I still wanted to look girly once it was all said and done. I had a vague picture on my cell phone of what I thought I sorta, kinda, maybe wanted… but basically I was a hot mess with an idea, but not really sure. This wasn’t exactly thought out… somehow while shopping yesterday I decided–«Hey! Get a mohawk.» And so I did. Anywho…this place is bare bones. Grooming Lounge it is not. You walk in, sit on one of the folding chairs along the window and either read one of the many«man magazines»(Maxim, not Hot, Black and Wet), or watch whatever is on TV and wait to get called to the chair. No frills, but the pace is decent and the barbers are friendly enough. Everyone gets acknowledged when they come in… and you basically just indicate who you are waiting for. So, Chris, the owner, was the lucky one who cut my hair… and for a first time mohawk-er…I think he did a great job. I think I may have been visibly shaking when I got in his chair… and he was totally cool… turned on the fan, asked me if I needed a paper bag, and told me that everything was gonna be fine. Guess what… he was right! He took his time, made appropriate small talk and didn’t scalp me! And… it was 12 bucks. Seriously. I may never grow my hair back. 12 bucks and 15 minutes for a fresh new look? I’m hooked, and I would def return!
