Finally! A lunch option while at work that isn’t deli sandwiches, other deli sandwiches, or cheese steak… sandwiches. Last week as I was driving back to work from grabbing lunch down the road, I noticed a little sign on the side of USA Parkway. «Santa Fe Station,» it said, with a mention of burritos, tacos, and quesadillas and an arrow pointing a bit further up the road. Begrudgingly, I glanced at the the deli sandwich bag on my passenger seat and turned on my blinker to head back to the office with my now far less desirable roast beef on white. Later that same day, a co-worker sent an email with a photo of a mighty tasty looking Mexican spread and a copy of the menu for Santa Fe Station with a report that this new little spot up the road was a big, ol’ YES! I knew that I had to make my way there soon, and I finally had that chance this week. Santa Fe Station is a food trailer set up in a dedicated spot at the corner of USA Pkwy and W Sydney Dr, just across the street from the Zulilly offices. The menu is simple, consisting of four meal offerings — burrito, chimichanga, 3 tacos, and quesadilla. There are four meat options –carnitas, shredded beef, chicken, and chile verde pork– and a nice assortment of salsas and sauces to choose from for your taste. All meals run $ 6.50 and include chips and salsa, plus a drink. The gal taking orders at the window was great — very friendly and eager to introduce people to their business. I ordered the burrito with carnitas meat and green tomatillo salsa — all burritos also come with black beans and rice in them, and my co-worker opted for the the chimichanga with chile verde pork and red enchilada sauce on top. Back at the office, my work buddy and I dug in to our dishes, slowing down the full on «dive in» process only to gush about how good it was to others as they came into the break room and peered into our to-go containers to check it out. The meat was very flavorful, able to stand up to all of the other fixings and flavors in the burrito. There was a slight hint of spice that was just enough to really make you pay attention without overtaking the taste buds. Chips are store-bought corn chips, and the salsa served with them may have been store bought as well(had kind of a Pace resemblance to me, but maybe they made it that way?) but frankly with the super tasty and filling burrito in front of me, I couldn’t really be bothered to give much thought to the chips and salsa anyway. And when lunch was over, I headed back to my desk a happy, happy girl with an even happier belly. In fact, it was soooo good that I found myself heading back there just a couple days later. This time, I went with the chimichanga(still carnitas), and I have a hard time imagining myself ever opting for something other than that from now on. A burrito is good, but a fried burrito? YUM! I certainly see myself being a regular at this food spot. Here’s hoping that the worker bees of the TRIC area can sustain them so that they remain out there and keep making this girl happy. I don’t know if I can go back to the world of just sandwiches, sandwiches, and more sandwiches.
