I came for lunch on a Tuesday. Tuesdays are the 2 for 1 lunch special. I didn’t get sushi. I ordered the Sesame chicken with white rice. Our server Noe was fast and had the appetizers back quickly. I love the atmosphere and ambiance. Someone in the group ordered and recommend the Danger Roll. I will be back to try it.

The service was good but the miso soup I ordered was cold and tasted very different from authentic Japanese miso soup we would eat when we lived in Japan. Sushi was good though.

They changed ownsership in september 2014 I went in march 2015 after checking out their online menu and specials. They had a different menu in house and when i asked if they would honor the special that was online they said no bc they had a «new» owner. Not very pleased the location is pretty out of the way and we came just because it was my birthday.

Unfortunately I was unable to try any of the sushi I ordered at lunch on Tuesday. I walked in and was seated quickly but was only attended to after flagging down a server 10 minutes later. The dining room was full during a busy lunch service, and being a very patient person it didn’t bother me that much. My patience and sanity are rarely tested, particularly not at a restaurant. I ordered a Sapporo, 2 miso soups and the Manhattan and spicy mama rolls in one whack having recognized a little bit of disorganization. Unfortunately this tactic didn’t work to expedite things, I only received my beer and my girlfriend her Diet Coke. After sitting for approximately 30 minutes with nothing else I decided to get up and check with the host because despite the busy room, the servers were all congregated by the sushi bar having some kind of conversation. The host stated that there was only one sushi chef working and that he would check on my order. In the interim, a person who I think was a manger delivered 2 lukewarm soups with some kind of crispy fried onions. A minute or two after finishing those, the server delivered our miso soups and cleared the other soup without commenting on how odd of a situation that was. I received a second beer and after an elapsed time of just over an hour broke into the sushi bar social circle and requested my check immediately. This experience was absolutely unacceptable. Employees need to communicate to customers any issues the kitchen might be having that would delay service so dramatically. I don’t ever ask for freebies or comps but they shouldn’t come after an hour and after demanding to leave and pay. I begrudgingly would have waited for my food as I was on vacation and had no reason to rush. I can’t imagine trying to come here for lunch on a lunch break as you would end up leaving without having eaten.

I’m Japanese American and recently moved to McAllen, Tx from San Diego, CA. I grew up eating Japanese cuisine including sushi both at home and a variety of restaurants in San Diego. I hope this helps give some perspective to this review. I have been wanting to try and find a place that has good fresh sushi here in the valley since moving here and finally decided to try Kobe. Google reviews were favorable but Unilocal was not. I went for lunch on a Saturday with my mom while she was visiting. The restaurant was pretty empty when we arrived but it was just after opening and did fill up some while we were dining. We wanted sushi so we did not sit at the hibachi grill.(no review on that at this time) They had a very large selection of rolls and sushi. Prices were about what to expect for good sushi. We ordered two different rolls(double crunchy roll & naruto roll with rice, its available low cab without rice), two orders of tekka maki(tuna & spicy tuna), and miso soup. Everything was done very well, the fish was fresh, soup was good not THE best but just fine, the tekka maki was much larger than usual(normally bite size, these were about three times larger). They definitely do not skimp out of the fish or the size of the rolls. Atmosphere was unusual a weird mix of traditional Japanese and contemporary but everything was neat and clean, no weird smells. The staff was friendly and our server was attentive but not overly so. With the change to the naruto roll they double checked with my mom on exactly how she wanted it instead of just making it how they thought she might want it. They gave us a survey card at the end of our meal to evaluate the restaurant and they also have a rewards program. I would definitely visit again. One down side was that they do not offer any kind of lunch specials or even a lunch menu on Saturdays, I assume the same holds true on Sundays as well. They do have a 2×1 price on rolls during the week days.

We loved all of it. My husband had the spicy mama and I had the chicken teriyaki. Our starter was calamari. It was all delicious. We can’t wait to come back. Our server was so nice. Our favorite sauce was the eel sauce.

Good atmosphere, ok food, not so good management. Waited about 45 minutes before being told by wait staff that there is only one grill cook. Should have come from management and with a discount.

This is the best sushi restaurant in the valley hands down. The fish is the freshest and the sauces are delicious. There are many places that claim to be sushi restaurants, but let me tell you that those cream cheese filled rolls are NOT the real thing. Kobe Sushi and Hibachi has the real thing. Service is great too. I am a huge Kobe customer and will go often as my 3 year old loves sushi thanks to this restaurant. Love it here :) I am editing this review because ever since this restaurant changed owners, it has changed.

Trust me, eat elsewhere. The fried rice, veggies, chicken in the hibachi were soaked in soy sauce. I didn’t taste or feel any squid in the calamari, which was like one of those cheap frozen dinners. Their sushi didn’t taste good at all. The only good thing about this place was the service.

This place is not worth your time or money! Cooks speak spanish, they don’t entertain when you st at the grill and the food was extremely salty and not good! Too much butter and soy sauce and not enough egg for the fried rice! Not authentic Japanese food. My husband had sushi and it was not cold. Sushi is suppose to be cold somewhat refreshing! Not the case here! I would skip thisnave and go somewhere else for Japanese food!

Not what I expected. I felt like this place was way over priced for the quality of food and eating experience. I was there for the hibachi grill and some sushi rolls and was sadly disappointed. The food contained a ton of butter and salt which made it very unappetizing for me. Usually the cook will do a show for you while he cooks and keep you entertained while you wait for your food but this wasn’t the case here. It seemed like they wanted to hurry and cook so they can get your money and leave. At least I can say I tried it but will never return again. And I had really looked forward to a great time like I did at Benihana’s hibachi.

We had the hibachi special this time. It was ok. I got the steak and ordered shrimp extra. The shrimp was pretty bland and I would not recommend it. The steak was pretty good, some of the pieces were a bit tough but others were great. I loved the veggies, wish there were more instead of tons of rice. Get the salad with ginger dressing, yum. They have the best miso soup of anywhere I have tried. The chef was pretty funny and our server was extremely attentive.

They have a happy hour. Bar has a DJ and a few TV’s, will likely watch some football there if they have it on this football season coming up. What’s up with smoking in bars in the Valley? That definitely sucks. Sushi was solid. Had a few rolls, rainbow, spicy tuna and some tempora roll. There does seem to be an inordinate amount of cream cheese in the rolls down here? Oh well. The hibachi part looked nice, will likely check it out at some point as well. I would check it out again. Its next to Golds gym and a movie theater too, so good after work out or pre movie food.

Returned a couple of times since my initial review, and will upgrade to 4 stars. wonder if the owners /chefs read patrons’ reviews: because the food looks amazing: the presentations are colorful, innovative and edgy, and very yummy. The service is primarily efficient and friendly. I won’t be able to bestow 5 stars, as I absolutely dislike being stuck in a restaurant where hibachi smoke and smells float all around, permeating your hair and clothes with the odor of burned oil. I succumbed to my peers’ preference to sit in the hibachi area, and did not enjoy my dinner at all, given the stiff performance of the chef, overwhelming smells, and having to bear the steam and cleaning of the cooking surface, while Ttempting to enjoy my(non hibachi) dinner. Glad though that they enjoyed their selections. My Tempura got cold by the time the chef finished his tricks.

Mmmmm. Really really good sushi, and although I didn’t get to try the hibachi I could see them and the guys doing it were fun, entertaining and it smelled great. I was there for sushi though and I was so impressed by the sheer variety they have, and the quality of the food. We tried so many different kinds but I think my favorite was probably the Spicy Mama and the Angry Dragon. There were others that were yummy too, basically read the description and be adventurous! Only real problems we had was being ignored by the waitstaff sometimes, but we were enjoying the food so much we didn’t mind.
