Good grub. Not the best I’ve had in the valley but it up there. FYI, menu is in Spanish

The food was really good. The service was fair, our waiter got busy towards the end and was not able to provide great service.

We had their catering for our wedding shower yesterday. It was awesome! They brought all the fixings for the tacos and cooked the onion and peppers at the venue. Then they made the tacos as they were ordered. The food was amazing and the service was great. They got there early to set up and even gave us the extra plates that we had paid for. They picked up after themselves as well. I will definitely be getting them for my next event.

The chicken mole lunch plate was huge and tasty – the mole had a nice flavor, but wasn’t too sweet. Two pieces of chicken, rice, beans, a veggie soup, purple-flavored jello was abundant, especially given the price. I was also really excited to find pozole on the menu that was, again, delicious and a meal unto itself. The food carried DeJarvis to four stars, but the service could’ve been better. The waiter was courteous, but I felt that the kitchen service was lacking. Our group of six diners got their meals at different times and one person got their torta about 15 minutes after everyone else got their food.

Don’t fucking come here. Went here and an hour and a half and our order never came. Every time we asked about our order they said they were bringing it and it never came and then they fucking had the nerve to come to us saying that they don’t have what we ordered available. I almost bitch slapped that motherfucker. You guys can feel my frustration and anger. I hate that place. I woulda flipped there if it wasn’t for my friend and her family with me.

We went for a weekend breakfast. This is sort of a hole in the wall type atmosphere. After having breakfast, I suspect their stronger suite is lunch/dinner after re-reading the reviews. I had barbacoa which was fantastic(though a little expensive at 9 $). My wife had eggs with bacon. She felt the eggs were rubbery and did not taste that good. Coffee was OK though there were some grounds in it. Good chips, good salsa. Probably worth an additional visit based on the reviews(but not at breakfast)

Thanks to Unilocal I was able to locate a locally respected taco house that didn’t fail to deliver. The staff there was patient while this gringo decided to try the unique sincronizada taco. They are made on a large but thin flour tortilla and filled with your choice of fajitas and cheese. The regular orders of tacos come 5 to an order and mine were chicken on corn tortillas and the little tacos I’ve heard called street tacos. My waiter knew I wanted frijoles charro and included them with my order along with plenty of salsa. Excellent!

I would argue that Dejarvis makes the best tacos in McAllen. I can’t recommend their fajita tacos with two cheeses enough. You get about five small tacos filled with chopped skirt steak, melted cheese, onion, and cilantro. The beef is deeply flavored without being gamy. The special chicken and avocado tacos weren’t quite as good as the beef, but they were still delicious. The Friday chicken mole special is solid. My order came with two skin-on pieces of thigh, refried beans, and Spanish rice – plus a free bowl of excessively salty tomato noodle soup and a free styrofoam cup of electric blue jello for dessert. I usually treat side orders of Spanish rice as colorful garnishes, rather than food, but Dejarvis’s rice is so good I would eat it by itself. Dejarvis has a notably well-stocked condiment bar with many different kinds of fresh salsa, including a chili and oil version which goes very well with the beans that are served on the side of the taco orders.

In my yesteryear, Mexico was THE place to be. Cheap drinks, no drinking age and better yet, no closing time. After consuming a flaming dr. pepper or 182, we’d get some great mexican drunk food. One of the places we’d frequent was«dejarvis», a little mecca for«sincronizadas», large tacos with an assortment of meat and grilled onions and cilantro and oh my god who knows what else. Well that dream of dejarvis has made the leap over to the American side of the border and is now servin em up hot and fresh. Take a friend, take your family or go by yourself and eat yourself into a shameful state. First, you get hot fresh corn chips with pico de gallo, spicy creamy green sauce and a mess of limes. Next, they bring you hot fresh perfectly spiced beans. THEN, you order. The sincronizada campana is a 12 inch homemade flour tortilla filled with fajitas, trompo, queso fresco. Add grilled onions, avocado and cilantro. Then smother the whole thing with the green sauce a la pollo regio, some sour crema, and pico de gallo. Then you can send me a compliment saying«thank you» for letting you know this slice of heaven existed in the heart of sotex.
