Robert E. Ketcham, MD

I have been seeing Dr. Ketcham for over a year now. He is thoughtful and does listen to what I have to say. I have found him to be smart and witty as well. Good oversight of my anxiety medication.

While Dr. Ketcham was interesting to speak with and clearly possesses a strong, competent intellect, my experience with Dr. Ketcham was very bad. Dr. Ketcham was listed as being covered by my insurance, but when visiting the doctor, he exhibited frustration at going through the hoops to provide authorization for the medication I was taking so I could get it at the insurance rate. He suggested a name brand medication for me to try out, and when I told him I needed authorization, he told me, and this is a quote «This is a one man show — usually I prefer to have my patients try it out and see if they like it first at the regular rate». The «regular rate» of the prescription he wanted me to «try» out? $ 400. After some prodding, Dr. Ketcham finally did phone in the authorization, but he made it clear that he is used to and prefers to deal with patients that can afford any out of pocket expense — which, working out of McLean, might be typical. But for me, it was just a plain bad experience. After my 2^nd appointment, I decided it was best not to return to this doctor.
