Atlantic County Library System – Mays Landing Branch

Excellent library, great staff, good selection of books and materials. Comfortable seating, good internet area, located just off main rd, but near a lovely park, very tranquil!

I’m a little bias when it comes to this place. I grew up in Mays Landing and this was my library. This beautiful building was built in 1837 and was formerly known as The American Hotel. In 1983, it was remodeled, updated and reopened as part of the Atlantic County Library System.
I don’t live in this town anymore but from time to time come back to visit & every once in a while end up here.
Keep in mind this is no Library of Congress nor is it the Grand Old New York Library, but it is a perfect part of a small town whose history can be traced to the mid sixteen hundreds. This is a pretty large library so they have tons of books, both print & audio. They have a spacious lobby with multiple tables for people to sit, they offer free internet for those that can’t or won’t pay for their own as well as computers to use should one have a need. The second floor houses the reference portion of their collection and they have clean public restrooms.
This building has multiple rooms that are often used for community events; my mom used to visit them for the free yoga they use to run on Saturday mornings & as one reviewer said they often of story time for children.
The people who work here are lovely and it nice to see how busy this place is. I wish them nothing but continued success and hope government cutbacks and budget setbacks never close this place down.

I have driven by this library for decades. But this isn’t our town. It wasn’t until this week that I learned there was a storyteller coming there that I went in. My son and I had a good time. Lots of room and things were very comfortable. We did not experience everything the library had to offer, but what we did we enjoyed.
The staff was friendly.
