Run. Don’t walk. No matter what you think. Do Not use this company. Once they have your belongings loaded on their truck, they will not answer your phone calls. Marsha Grant, one of their customer service reps, is charming over the phone, extremely helpful and promptly answers all your calls and emails but that all ceases once they have your money & belongings. She never returned a single call after my belongings were on the truck. They know your number and won’t answer it. I gave this company a very detailed list of what I had. I had packed everything in 67 Rubbermaid bins and 31 boxes. The rest, I detailed quite extensively. Once the truck came, I had gotten rid of a lot of my belongings to the tune of a decrease in 26 bins and a decrease in 4 boxes. A twin bed frame &2 barstools from the initial inventory didn’t go in either. YET, I was charged for an extra 185 cubic feet. I incurred an $ 826.00 additional fee. $ 63 was for the tape they charged me for to wrap all the lids on my bins. I can’t even imagine what the bill would have been if I hadn’t decreased the amount that went on the truck. They give you a very low ball figure to hook you in. There is no room for«Proud» in this company’s name. Once my belongings arrived at my new place, they didn’t have the right tool to put my bed together and they said that they didn’t have the slats to the bed. I made them go back in the truck and they found the slats. Fortunately, I had a tool and they were able to put the bed together. Your belongings are transferred from one truck to another and you will lose belongings. Rest assured of that. They lost one of my standing lamps and a couple of my bins. So if for some reason, you do decide to go with this company, DONOT and I repeat, DONOT put anything on that truck that would sadden you if you never saw it again. I say that from the depths of my heart. They will tell you that they will take a postal money order upon delivery and then at the last moment, they will ask for cash. They’ll make you wire any additional fees to their Chase Bank before they’ll give you your belongings. The sent me an email 2 days after my belongings were loaded on the truck and asked for more of a percentage than what they originally asked for. Transferring the money was a fiasco in of itself because the company is always changing it’s name. I was afraid that my money wasn’t going to them and that I was being scammed. This was, by far, the worst moving experience I have ever had and I don’t wish what happened to me to happen to anyone else. Please heed my advise & don’t use this company.

Awful — just awful. I relied on their FIXR reviews due to the high rating but should have checked Unilocal. They’ll do whatever it takes to get your business but then are nowhere to be found once they have your belongings. Continued run-around and impossible trying to get a straight answer. At this point I assume my belongings have been stolen. AVOIDATALLCOSTS! Here are other reports for everyone to view complaints: And if you visit their site and scroll all the way to the bottom it includes a link to an adult site without warning. I’m sure the FCC would love to see that. EDIT: I did end up receiving my goods 2 weeks after my delivery date. About 50 phone calls, 20 hang ups, different people telling me different people were in charge and me paying them TWICE and I finally received my goods. AVOIDATALLCOSTS!

Please do yourself a favor and never take the service from Proud American Van lines. My shipment arrived more than a month late from the date of promised delivery and also the people who came to pick up as well as delivery are not professional. They have so many hidden cost that you would be surprised. I was charged more than double than the quote I received even though I had specifically told about the items. In fact I had told them more than what was supposed to be taken as I discarded many after getting the quote. They charged bulk item fees both at pick-up and delivery. Though they say that there wouldn’t be any charge if you are second floor, they charge for it. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

In preparing for my move from MD to FL, I considered renting a moving truck versus hiring movers and reviewed multiple offers. Since this was only a 1 bedroom move, I decided on Proud American Van Lines. I paid my $ 350 deposit via credit card and booked on a Wed for a next-day(Thurs) pickup. The sales rep I spoke with assured me that this was a regular route for them and that my furniture would arrive on my move-in date(the following Tues). I asked him what I needed to provide or do to prepare for the move. His response was to make sure I had a mattress cover and a box to pack my fragile items(e.g. TV and coffee table). On Thurs(my initial pickup date) they told me they wouldn’t be able to pickup my furniture until Fri. I asked if this would impact the Tues delivery and he said it would not be an issue. On Fri(my second pickup date) they called and said they would be unable to pickup until Sat. Again, I asked if the Tues delivery would be a problem because of the delay and they reassured me that the Tues delivery date was solid. I finally received a call confirming the movers would arrive on Sat between 9 and 11am. On Sat morning I called Proud American every half hour beginning at 11am because I had not seen nor heard anything from the movers. The representative informed me that she was unable to get in touch with the driver directly since dispatch is unavailable on weekends. Around 2pm on Sat I finally received a call from the movers telling me that their 50+ ft truck was unable to maneuver into my neighborhood. They charged me a $ 150 shuttle fee since the truck was unable to park in my driveway. Remember when I mentioned the Proud American rep stated I’d only need to provide boxes for the movers? Lies… They charged a packing fee for each of my fragile items, which came up to another $ 115. The movers also demanded payment in cash, money order, or cashier’s check — no credit card payments were permitted. I was caught offguard with these extra charges and terms and attempted to check my online quote, which included the fine print of the contract to confirm these fees. Of course, Proud American had removed it. I had nothing to refer to or counter their demands with on the day of the move. The worst part is that I asked the movers if the Tues date was still feasible. Can you guess his response? «Ma’am, you’ll be lucky if you get your stuff in a week.» The lead mover claimed he is a subcontractor to Proud American, but his crew played loud music with profanity throughout the move. Fast forward NINE days past my promised Tues delivery date(I had to purchase an air mattress in the meantime) and the mover arrived. This time, he charges me a $ 300 fee to unload due to the distance although he only had to unload from his truck and roll my things to an elevator. I was thankful to finally have my things, but I definitely noticed some cracks, furniture assembled incorrectly, etc. I thought that the initial $ 1250 was steep for a one bedroom move, but after the unanticipated fees, the total was close to $ 2000. I could’ve purchased new furniture for that amount rather than moving my things. I hope you readers reconsider using Proud American for your move. I have filed multiple complaints describing my experiences without any action from their end. Once they have your money and belongings, you’re at their mercy. With any mover you use, definitely read the fine print(download it because it likely won’t be available to view when you need it) and have them document their promises. They will tell you anything to get your business.

DONOTUSE! Proud American Van Lines apparently brokered my move to another moving company as they are an intrastate moving company, not an interstate. They never explained this to me so the day of my move another moving company, #1 Van Lines of Miami Gardens, FL, shows up. They did a horrible job. I hold Proud American Van Lines partially responsible due to their deception. Check US Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration National Consumer Complaint Database at before hiring any movers. I wish I had. I also had considerable trouble reaching them by phone and email. I do not recommend Proud American Van Lines.

Do NOT use this moving company!!! This company may be American but they should not be Proud. One of the worst experiences of my life. Had to cancel on them 3 days before my move from Northern VA to Atlanta and hire a different company. Here’s why: (1) They contacted me with an estimate which I accepted. I was then contacted multiple times in the days and weeks after by different people from different offices of this same company who also tried to give me estimates(even when I told them I already had an estimate from their company) — one person even tried to beat the estimate that I was already given. Don’t they all work for the same company? (2) I was told that they could not guarantee me a specific delivery date — they insisted on giving me a 3-day window where they could arrive on any of the 3 days. This did not work for me. They explained that the first date they gave me was the date they were targeting, and that the other 2 days were just in case there was an issue like weather that would prevent them from being able to move me on the first day. 5 days before my move I was told that the 3-day window meant just that, regardless of issues like weather — they could not guarantee me a specific pickup date. This did not work for me because I was flying back up to VA from Atlanta to meet the movers on one specific day(I was staying in a hotel down there until my official move). (3) This company does not have a single phone number to call — there seem to be different numbers for different offices and customer service. When I called the main number with a question about the specific delivery date I was forwarded to a customer service number where they asked for my reference number. When I gave them what I am sure was the correct reference number(I read it straight from the email in which I received it), they told me they had no record of it and asked me if I was calling the right company and who I was trying to call. I said Proud American Movers and they said that was them but gave me yet another number to call. This number sent me directly to a generic voice mail, during regular business hours. (4) After I informed them 3 days prior to the first date in the 3-day window that I was canceling and had hired a different company, they kept calling me and emailing me trying(only then) to rectify the situation. I told the person I was supposed to be dealing with as my single point of contact(which they were not) that I was canceling and they instead insisted on getting a customer service rep on the line and told mento wait. I hung up. I was then contacted by them via email later that same day informing me that they would guarantee arrival on the original date they I wanted(the first day of the 3-day window), but I told them very sternly to stop contacting me because I was done with them.
