Great Licks Ice Cream Shop

Great Licks has been voted best ice cream on Pine Island for the past several years running. While it may also be the only ice cream place on Pine Island as far as I could tell, that makes it no less deserving of 5 stars for its delectable flavor combinations and warm service.
Located on the main drag at the end of a row of touristy shops, Great Licks has an open door most days of the year. Unlimited samples meant that I was torn between the Key Lime Pie, Cinnamon, and Pure Vanilla flavor a that I tried. Each was better than the previous, and I probably would have tried every flavor in the case except that I was holding up the line behind me with my sampling.
I finally decided on the Key Lime, both because I loved it and for the extra local flavor element of Key Limes grown on Pine Island itself. Tangy lime flavor mingled with sweet cream base and a crunch of graham cracker crust swirled within. I barely had a chance to sit outside before I had devoured my scoop.
The shop is Fido-​friendly and gave our pup a scoop of vanilla all to himself. He greedily topped it off by licking my little bowl clean. This is one place we could all agree is worth another visit, and somewhere you should stop by, too!

Ice Cream is near the top of my favorite things list. My husband found he could distract me, change my mood and/​or score points with trips for ice cream early in our relationship. We go out for it A LOT.
A stop at Great Licks is a highlight of any trip we make to Matlacha. Parking can be an issue in this funky little town. Fortunately, there is parking designated for the ice cream shop on the side street directly across from the shop.
The seating area for the ice cream shop is part of an attached art gallery. That was an unexpected bonus during our first visit.
Nearly all ice cream makes me go: yum! The Key Lime Pie ice cream at Great Licks makes my taste buds SING! OMG! The key lime flavor is bright and powerful. This is amazing ice cream!

The only bummers here are that the flavors are very limited and the price for the portion size is a bit on the higher side. This isn’t enough to keep us from returning when we’re in the area but we’ve been known to head in another direction when we want a flavor not offered here.
