I am fortunate to be able to call the Upper Delaware system my home in the summer and I must have passed MGS100 times going to and fro. I finally stopped a few weeks ago simply looking to get a bottle of water for the dog. O-M-G; it was like coming up to an oasis you no idea was there. The surprise made the experience even better! Well, my bottle of water turned into an overfilled basket of earth-friendly supplies(like recycled aluminum foil and coffee filters), organic staples(like chocolate granola, pickles, and bread), and yummy, nostalgic treats like rock candy from«behind the counter» and diet black cherry Boylan pop! In addition to the foods there are lots of thoughtful household goods and even some«off line» games and activities that some of you will remember or wish you did. Did I mention the health book section and the great brewed coffee? I could go on but as I told Kendall, MGS has simply become part of the weekly shopping list. Favorite products include Mestemachen bread, Bubbies pickles, spinach and feta popovers, and the Katz gluten free chocolate rugelech. And the cherry on top? Kendall, the owner; I could have spent all morning chatting(and I almost did) with her. Sorry if I repeated too much from other posts.

Wow. So I thought the Lucky Dog Store in Hamden, NY was the coolest old General Store I’d ever seen… until I came here. This general store is in beautiful condition and has an even wider variety of items for sale. The organic groceries, sure, but also fun stationery type items and crafts and so much more! I was so excited to find this spot and wonder when I’ll get a chance to go again. TIP — THEYONLYTAKECASHORCHECK.

Perfect place if you are looking for locally produced, organic, and natural products. Things we picked up here for part of a perfect picnic: –bottle of Knudsen’s pear spritzer –herbed goat cheese from a local farm –fresh baguette –organic apples –organic vegetarian egg rolls It is not where most people will go for major grocery shopping trips; but it is a charming little store with some great specialty items.(Our next shopping trip there must include Blue Diamond’s pecan nut thins.) The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, especially the owner Kendall. PS — They’re open every day but Wednesdays, and accept cash /check only.

They have Gimmee Coffee, and some pretty good lunch offerings for the state workers around ther corner. The owner Kendall cares about Masonville and is a good person.
