Since the original Maid-Rite in Mason City was closed, my family was forced to come here. According to them, the Maid-Rite in the mall is no where near as good as the original location. A cousin stated that the original Maid-Rite actually cooked and steamed the ground beef and onions together. Instead, the Maid-Rite in the mall simply steams ground beef, adds the extras(onions, ketchup, etc), and puts it in a hamburger bun. I found the taste to be rather bland. Like my mother said, «It’s like having taco meat without any seasoning.» The fries were corrugated, dry, and previously frozen. The portion sizes were small too. I also ordered a cup of broccoli and cheese soup(which my mother also shared since she was even still hungry), but it was really salty. The packaged saltine crackers provided were stale. Given the speediness of when the soup was provided, I wouldn’t be surprised if the soup was pre-made or frozen like the fries. I think I’ll pass next time someone suggests this place.
