I have lived on the Cape for 6 years now. I have tried every single Mexican restaurant from top to bottom and I finally found a truly delicious location that is consistently pleasing in terms of food quality, service and promptness. I have visited El Colibri about 5 – 6 times so far, sometimes two nights in a row, and it’s always delicious. The waitstaff is pleasant they are happy to be there and I have voluntarily engaged the management to express my relief of finally finding a good Mexican restaurant on Cape Cod! This restaurant uses QUALITY ingredients. Organic corn, fresh salsa, and nothing but the best meats and vegetables. They also have a wide assortment of GF options that compliment the menu but do not hinder it in any way. The menu seems to suit everyone including children. Gracias!

Great atmosphere and I was really hoping for better food. Margarita served in a mug, would have preferred a margarita glass, full of ice for $ 8 not much alcohol taste. They suggested the fish tacos, they were okay but would have been much better with some more flavor, bland. I will try it again, but I was expecting more.

I gave it 2 stars because the skinny margarita was great but the food was tasteless and totally missing essential Mexican spices like jalepeno. How hard is it to make Mexican food?! And the lousy burritos was $ 16. Save yourselves and don’t go here. Hate to say it but Sam Diegos is better :/

Really good place to come for a drink or have good Mexican food. Likes: — Atmosphere is very lively and upscale with out the pretentious vibe. — Service is really good — Large drink menu Drinks: — Caphrinia was really good — Sangria is a must!!! Eats: — Fish tacos were delicious and portion was huge — Paella had just the right amount of selfish and sausage… I would def order again. Overall a really nice place. I would eat here again.

Margarita served in a pint glass was a bummer. Service was great. Pricy burritos, but food was great.

Atmosphere: lovely! Beautiful décor, outdoor patio seating, romantic feel, and comfortable seating options. Service: average. Our server seemed to be new and in need of some additional training. The hostess was a bit rude, which may have been dry humor but not appropriate as the hostess of a restaurant. Cocktails: good. We were given samples of the new frozen margaritas which won us over and we then had the $ 5.00 special froZen margaritas which were very good. The margarita and tequila menu was extensive. Food: interesting menu with nice flavors although nothing screamed mexican. The salsa was good, but was smokey rather than spicy and was unlike any other salsa I’ve ever had. The burrito was also much more sweet than spicy which is not what you expect when ordering mexican cuisine. All of the food did have good flavors, just not necessarily the mexican flavors you crave when walking into a Mexican restaurant.

Just went here to try out the new place. Nice atmosphere, great service, lovely presentation but completely flavorless food! There was not a jalapeño to be found. The salsa tasted like marinara sauce with additional sugar. I had the pork carnitas burrito which tasted like the pulled pork you buy at the supermarket and heat in the microwave. The menu said it was crispy pork but it was all mush with tons of onions in it. My wife had the Mahi tacos which were just ok. Again no spice at all. We asked the waitress why there was no spice or flavor and she said they didn’t want to discourage anyone from trying things on the menu. I hate to say it but even Sam Diego’s in Hyannis is better. If you want great Mexican food on the Cape the only place to go is Anejo in Falmouth in my opinion. This place will be gone as quickly as Oak and Ember was. They need to hire a chef that doesn’t cook like he works at the Hearth and Kettle.

After checking the Unilocal reviews we decided to try El Colibri and our experience was wonderful. The service was friendly and prompt even on a busy Saturday night. The chips were fresh and hot. The salsa was delish and different. The guacamole was out of this world — a must have. The Steak Tacos were amazing and the Pork Tamales were the best I have had in my 63 years on this earth. I hate to give such good reviews because my new favorite place is going to get crowded, but the excellent staff and food deserve the compliments. Don’t even bother with any other Mexican restaurant on the Cape. This is the one.

First visit and the food, service, and atmosphere was great. The salsa has a smoky taste so it’s a little different from what you might expect but it was very good especially when paired with the fabulous guacamole. Steak tacos and pork tacos were great. Home made sundae for dessert finished off a good meal. We will be back soon.

I’ve really enjoyed my visits here. If I could take up residence at the bar I would consider it. It has a certain warmth that’s intensified by the bold flavors of their cocktail selection. If your palate is bored here, you should stop ordering ice water and try the«Fuego» margarita, or a tequila flight. The salsa, with its slight smoke, will be the perfect complement, especially since it’s complimentary. See what I did there? Let’s not neglect the rest of the menu, which is varied and presented artfully, but unpretentiously, in ample portions and with vivid flavors; all without a New-Year’s-resolution-destroying amount of cheese or oil. I appreciate how easy it must be to slather things in dairy and grease, especially when you have great-tasting dairy and grease to slather onto things(which I’m sure they do). But I appreciate it even more that they resist the temptation to get an easy thumbs up from diners by avoiding doing so. At this time I’m «that guy» sitting and playing with his phone at the bar, but the staff is courteous and attentive, and the room around me is filled with pleasant music and the sound of satisfied, chatting customers. I promise I will revise this review if I return and find I don’t fit that description, but for now it’s a content four stars, and a Swarzeneggian«I’ll be back.» Enjoy.

OK, I wouldn’t write what I am about to without having been to the restaurant a couple of times. At least. So here’s my take: the food is very good. An upscale Mexican menu with some great innovations that do not detract from the cultural authenticity of the cuisine and spices. The seafood paella is excellent, as are the skirt steak tacos. The smoked pork belly was, meh. And the guac was pedestrian. The real surprise here: outstanding house-made salsa with a sweet and smoky hit to it. Prices are reasonable. But the catch is this: the service is awful. The first time we went was on a weekend night and we kinda expect to wait. But when the 20 minute anticipated wait dilates into 50+ minutes, the payoff better be worth it. And, as you can tell from my review of the food, it is easily one, perhaps two, notches *below* what you get on Main Street in Hyannis. The last time we went, we had a 40 minute wait between the appetizer and the main course(tacos and a burrito). The place was half empty. The waitress was chagrinned. It was painful — especially because it was a replay of our original experience. The only thing that comes fast is the bill, after the credit card payment has been taken. Walking out, I decided that I won’t go back. Voluntarily, at least. In the parking lot, we came across a party that had spent over $ 600 there and were furious at the way they were treated. You could say that overhearing their story sealed the deal.

Wow! Healthy, delicious, beautiful, and affordable good. You must come here if you near by. I just drove 30 min and it is totally worth it! Restaurant is modern, new, clean, friendly service. If you don’t come here. You missing out on great food and service.

I’ve been to this restaurant a few times now and every time I have been more than satisfied. To start, I’ll talk about the apps. The pork belly is phenomenal, nachos are enormous and beyond good and the guacamole is to die for. The pork belly was crispy and exploding with flavors, nachos were pilled high with great flavors, melted cheese plus a topping of fresh shaved cheeses!!! As for the guacamole, I wouldn’t even consider it an app. It is so good that I would be satisfied with it as my main meal. Also the chips are served warm and have the perfect amount of saltiness which just adds to how perfect the guacamole is. The main dishes are really where this restaurant shines. I’ve had the calamari salad, chicken enchiladas and steak tacos. The calamari was cooked perfectly, not too chewy and just the right amount of firmness. The chicken enchilada is by far the best dish I’ve had to date. The presentation is on point and the flavors blend together so perfectly! You can tell that the owners really care about the quality of food they serve. Lastly, the steak tacos… again unreal. Steak is also cooked perfectly, full of flavor and a good sized portion! The coleslaw that comes on the side has just the right amount of flavors that pair so well with the main dish. Now for the drinks and atmosphere. The fuego is my go to drink here. It has a blend of unique tastes that has you thinking how in the world did they come up with this drink? Someone behind that bar is an absolute genius! It is most certainly not watered down either which makes it that much better! The live music is what tops it all off. Completely mellow and yet still extremely fun and entertaining. All around a great experience every time I come here. Cannot wait until the next time.

Blows my mind that a Mexican restaurant can have terrible salsa. That is like the first impression on any Mexican place. I thought it was me but many of my friends agree. Food was ok service marginal and prices out of line for basic Mexican. This area is ripe for good Mexican. Hope they can fix it.

This is my second visit to this new Mexican establishment. I did not write a review the first time because I wanted to give them some time to get their feet on the ground and make adjustments. Well I’ve been back after a month and unfortunately there wasn’t much improvement! Now for the good, the bad and the ugly! First the good. The guacamole is rather delicious and a grilled corn is mouth watering. The steak and the yuca fries I thought were very good. The steak had great flavour and was cooked perfectly! And I must say they make a rather good mixed drink. As far as the bad, although the décor has been changed to give it a mexican themed restaurant feel but still they are using the utensils and the glasses leftover from the steakhouse that used to be there. How does one enjoy a margarita when it’s not even in a margarita glass? Cheesy! Though the main course was appetizing I felt like someone was doing an art experiment and just threw it on the plate hoping something would turn out that looked appetizing. The steak was very appealing to the eye but the sides were unappealing to the eye, too crowded together and too many flavours trying to get your attention! The sides were to starchy with little flavor! The steak was the saving grace! And the ugly, well while our server was polite and nice we felt rushed and pushed to move on through the whole meal. So much for a relaxing dinner! I’ll give it a few more months and try again maybe by the summer they will have it worked out. I wish them good luck!

I wish it was going to be better… the salsa is not good, the fish taco had a little tiny piece of fish, the guacamole was way to chunky. I hope this place gets better, the previous place the whiskey bar was great and this place has the same owners. I think they need to hire a real Mexican chef. I also would recommend home chips, not warmed but bagged chips.

I will begin with the disclosure that I perform at El Colibri regularly, but I have left many reviews on Unilocal and my relationship with the owner/employers has no bearing on my experience. Started with the chips and salsa. Nice touch that the chips were warm. The fact that they are GF had no effect on the taste. Got the side of guacamole and salsa. Salsa was presented nicely but the serving size is too small and a challenge to dip a full chip into because of the size of the serving container. Very tasty and fresh though. Having lived in Colorado I have experienced many types of Mexican cuisine. Everything from taco trucks to high end gourmet. The constant with any of these that made them good was the freshness and quality of the ingredients. That’s what you will find here. I have had the(grilled) fish tacos and the chicken burrito. Both were very flavorful, tasty and made with fresh ingredients. The fish taco was my favorite of the two and I look forward to trying the fried fish version. The style here is sort of a Cali– Mex mix, not your lesser unrecognizable covered with sauce, beans and cheese Mexican. (place right down the road on 132 in Hyannis if that’s what you prefer) The presentation is on par with the quality, as pleasing to the eyes as the palate. My only complaint is that I like I little more heat in my dishes, but they do provide a nice selection of hot sauces for heat and a little extra flavor. I think El Colibri is a great addition to the area and urge people to come out and give it a try.

Came in only for drinks. Perfect selection of tequila. If you love tequila this is your spot. Sat at the bar. Very nice inside. Had chips and the homemade salsa, which was out of this world. Had a tequila sunrise which was great.

This was a great disappointment as we had looked forward to a New Mexican restaurant in the area. The food was awful. The guacamole had no flavor even after we added lime juice. The enchiladas were bland. When we spoke to the manager he said they weren’t making hot and spicy food. flavor and spices do not mean«hot» Even the rice and beans with the entrees were dry and flavorless. Why have a Mexican restaurant if you don’t understand the cuisine? The bar is still attractive and lively as it was in the prior incarnations of this location. Don’t go here if you want well prepared Mexican food. By the way the $ 10. Margheritas were very watered down.

I lived in Southern California for several years, so needless to say, I’ve missed my Mexican food. I was a little hesitant to visit El Colibri at first because none of the other places on the Cape have impressed me that much… and yes, I’ve tried that place in Falmouth, too. I was completely blown away by the food I ordered. I had the Flank Steak Tacos & my beau had the Fish Tacos. I was truly in love with my steak selection until I tried his fish. SHUTTHEFRONTDOOR!!! These are, by a landslide, the best tacos I’ve had since I left Cali. Succulent white fish topped with a pineapple mango salsa hit the spot on a cold New England day. The beef was incredible too… so fresh & tender… just melted in my mouth. Also, their salsa & chips, while not a traditional Mexican salsa, was chunky, a little spicy, and very yummy. This is my new favorite place in Mashpee.
