We adopted our big white marshmellow, Cooper from the Maryland Heights location several years ago. He was returned three times through no fault of his own. He is a wonderful dog! The staff was really great with him and we could tell that they loved him and wanted him to have a loving, PERMANENT home. I will only adopt rescue dogs now due to the great experience we had at the Maryland Heights location. :)
PS Cooper will be moving with us to Colorado in June and I cant wait to show him the mountains! He will love it there!

First of all, didn’t even know this place existed. It’s a bit off the usual track for businesses. But what a gem. I got in and got out very quickly. Much quicker than the Macklin location. The service was extremely good. They talked and took care of my pet beyond any other experience I’ve had. They truly cared about his comfort. The vet performed one of the more thorough examinations. Please make sure to check them out!

They did a great job with my puppies, and I will continue to frequent this location for years to come.
Recently out dog was stabbed/​poked by some bastard neighbor kid, we had to take her to the Doggie ER in O’Fallon, MO after hours. They faxed the paperwork from that visit to our vet at the Humane Society and we got a call from our vet to see how our puppy was doing. That’s some animal concern right there!!!

Alright, it’s time to write this review. Writing this review means admitting something really personal and horrible about myself… But it’s time… I just need to own it. So here goes.
I adopted a… (whispering) second cat.
This is like Olympic-​level commitment. Seriously. Not only are you promising to take care of a creature until you or it dies, but adopting a second cat is freely accepting the fact that you will never find love, get married, or probably even get laid again.
This Humane Society is nice because it’s less crowded. I’ve had some good experiences here looking at potential adoptees. On THE DAY, I got the coolest adoption specialist ever. He even broke the «you can only look at three cats» rule and let me look at four, although it slightly perturbed me that he acted like this breach of code was on par with letting me bring a shotgun on an airplane or something.
The cat that I was adopting had some health problems, so the vet came and inspected him and gave me some advice (albeit, slightly worthless advice). It was nice of her to take the time. I had to wait a long time, though.
The front desk staff was totally and inexplicably rude to me. They made me fill out the same Godforsaken paperwork that I’ve filled out like 10 times that they insist they will keep on file, but then when I ask they have no idea what file I am talking about. Then he made me wait like eons without explaining the wait. Are you people aware that my saint level right now is on par with Angelina Jolie? I’m about to adopt a sick, disgusting creature which is going to puke on everything I own, cost more than an Events and Adventures membership, and push my social repulsiveness into the top percentile. Please be nice to me and act like you’re impressed by my good deed. I’m sacrificing a lot of sex for this.
Being at the Humane Society was super interesting. As I was excitedly adopting my cat, another lady was there to have her dog put to sleep. It was such a clash of emotion, completely worsened by the front desk clerk’s inexplicably slow movements and lack of empathy for either one of us.
Another slight issue I had was that my cat was coming from a home where they did have information about him. His owner died. They couldn’t read some of the info on the sheet, and wouldn’t help me get in touch with the family of the owner. I get that they can’t give out personal info, but they also wouldn’t send my info to them. I thought the family would want to know that he had been adopted, and I also needed more medical info about the cat.
All in all, great place to get a cat. Better than the Macklind location. Most of the staff is awesome, and hopefully Mr. Attitude was just having a bad day.

. Okay. Fine. Who am I kidding. I think having two cats will disqualify you from E-​Harmony faster than being gay or an Atheist will.
To Summarize:
–I have two cats.
–I got one of them here.
–Am I a loser because I got two cats, or did I get two cats because I’m a loser?

I agree the staff there is horrible! It really makes you wonder do they care about helping pets? I used the Vet practices for my pet for a couple of years. Our puppy was spayed there and it was OK, but the yearly check ups not! It seems like the vets who work here are not qualified.
They trimmed my Sheltie’s nails and made her bleed, and now thanks to them, to this day, my Sheltie is 5 and hates to have her nails trimmed.
Also, they misdiagnosed our Sheltie Coneal Dystrophy to Florida eyes, and at we never lived in Florida for her first 5 years! They treat your pet rough with no care or love.
Also, on the adoption side, the staff is dumb. We were going to adopt a kitten. Unfortunately, the one we wanted was very sick. The staff lady wanted me to pay for all her sickness care before we adopted her! I am a single mom and I thought they would care about the kitten to get her ready to adopt! They charge alot to adopt and if they really cared about pets they would lower their prices, or have a sliding scale. I am on disability and one dog is very expensive.
I am so glad I found Florissant Animal Hospital. They are much better.

On a whim after work we decided to check out a small breed dog I spotted on the Humane Society’s website. All I told my hubby was that it was a miniature pincher (like our other one) and he was game to go «look».
The facility is open until 6pm during the week and we arrived just before 5. As we walked into the small dog/​puppy parlor, I spotted the dog from it’s online photo. She was WAY smaller than I expected, the photo only showed her face. She couldn’t have been more than 5lbs soaking wet. It was love at first sight for me. My husband’s face nearly fell off when he saw her, perhaps a little to little for him. But he agreed to a visitation with her in an adoption room.
The adoption form I had filled out a few weeks back was still on file, which saved me the writing. My application was pulled and an adoption counselor gathered the dog and her background information, i.e. where she came from, what her health history was, adoption fees, etc. We had plenty of alone time with the dog while the adoption counselor went to follow up on a few questions I asked about her health history while at the Humane Society.
Long story short… about and hour and $ 210 later, I left with a new pup, a leash and a bag of Purina dog food to get started with.

When I wrote this review I was just in the early stages of learning rescue dog adoption. I have had Maury for about a month now and he is just awesome. First things first I named him after my father. My pop was a short man with little man syndrome that served him well in life. Maury is every bit as feisty as my pop. OK enough background. After having Maury aka Little M for a week I went back to the Humane Society to give them an update. I walk in with my work clothes tie dress shirt and pants. I ask to speak with the manager. I get the oh crap stare. I know I am a big person and can look very intimidating to the 20 something group. They ask me about what and I say I want to talk about my adoption. They say you have to go to the adoption area and ask them. So I walk 2 steps to the next desk and ask the same question with the same results. The Stare. I have now tuned into I am intimidating these people so I put on my charm and say I just want to give a compliment. A look of relief comes over the kids and soon this 20 something young lady comes out and talks to me. I told here how happy I was with Maury and how hard he was trying to fit into the pack of my wife, the dogs and myself. She smiles and I start to choke up a little because I keep thinking of all the crap this dog has been through but I get my feet back under myself and continue to tell them how wonderful he is doing and how loved he is.
I got the distinct impression that people coming back and telling them what a wonderful animal someone has adopted is not the norm. I left feeling good about myself and about what I did. I wonder if Maury thinks he won the lottery?
