I stopped into Altos thr other day. The first thing I noticed was the stench of something I can only describe as mold and burnt hair. I wanted to leave immediately, but my friend needed me to stay. The drinks were over priced given the musty-basement like ambiance. From the time I was buzzed in and allowed thru the front (locked) door, it I felt more like prisoner, drinking stank hooch and less like a bar patron.
I would avoid eating the food at all costs. Judging by the smell, the food is probably about as clean as week-old road kill.

On Monday’s 50 cent wings! Tuesday $ 5 burgers and $ 1 long islands! Best steaks around 20 oz ribeye, loaded potato, and salad for $ 15 on Wednesday and Friday!

Alto’s=Rural College Dive Bar?
Let’s start with Altos gets 3 stars only because it’s in WV. If you have never been to a WV bar it’s a treat. First you have to be buzzed in to most bars here. For some It seems the only requirement for entry is being Caucasian. Second they are gas chambers of cigarette smoke. Third for whatever reason your not allowed to have windows you can see through from the outside. Altos is compliant the later 2 conditions. The first condition is half true you ring buzzer then they let you in.

They have golden tee and darts
The bad:
Lung cancer
The questionable:
Legal Slot machines
If it were in civilization it would go out of business. So why 3 stars you say? It’s on the better side of what WV bars have to offer.

Cheap beer is the only upside. I’ve been there a bunch of times and each followed by a worse experience. But this pushed me over the edge. GIRLS ATTENTION!!! Don’t leave your drinks unattended. This is the epitome of a bar that people should avoid. Tony’s is right down the road and in a much better part of town, I highly recommend going there instead of this trash hole.

Nice little place to drink and listen to music. Make sure you eat before you go though because the place could use a good cleaning and if the dining/bar area looks that dirty then i don’t wanna imagine how dirty the kitchen is. Bartender was friendly and was on top of filling up my class as soon as it was emptied.

Altos Club= Dive Bar
But it has all the essentials! I second Megan M on her review! I stopped here while visiting my cousin and we had a blast! Granted I am not from the area but going from some of the other bars in the area to here. I was actually relieved. The bartenders were really nice and incredibly funny.
I loved all the dart boards, juke box, and CHEAP CHEAP drinks! I think if you are with the right crowd of people, who like to have fun, you can definitely have a great night here. Isn’t it who you are with that should make the night?! Come on now people!
The accessories that Altos has to offer are just party favors! If I ever go back to WV, I would definitely stop by again. Who doesn’t love legit locals when you are from out of state? You can learn so much about an area that way!

What else do you need when you’re in West Va?
Every time I go home with the BF we seem to end up here. If you’re looking for fancy, don’t come. This place is down and dirty with plenty of regulars sipping beers and playing darts. It’s probably not the place to come and order fancy drinks: stick to the brewskis and simple rail drinks. It’s also probably not the place for getting all dressed up. Jeans and a T-shirt or sweatshirt suffice.
The Ass-Kickers come in plastic cups and feature pineapple juice and some sort of liquor. They are stronger than they taste.
If you like dive bars, come on in, kick back and relax with the regulars.

CHEAP! that is the most attractive quality of this bar. i’ve ended up here a couple of times after hitting up tony’s and the mec in shepherdstown. who knows why we ended up here but that’s usually how a night of bar-hopping goes. sometimes you look around and realize «why am i here?»
it’s a dive. beer is super cheap. don’t count on meeting anyone really attractive or interesting here. usually not too crowded but kind of miserable when it is, since there isn’t a lot of room or seating and the crowds are less than desirable.
