After getting some recommendations of local coffee houses around town, States seemed to be a favorite. So i decided to check it out today for the first time. I like the location and the parking was close by. The ambiance was impressive. The crowd was boho-chic and young. The music was classic rock, the good kind. Overall, It had a very earthy sensation and I enjoyed the décor. I ordered a «vanilla iced… something», for here. I sat at a large wooden table and set up my laptop(wifi available). My drink was brought to me in a large glass. I sat and did my studies while indulging in a new favorite coffee. I will most definitely come back!

I love how this coffee house supports handmade artisans and makers and they switch up the variety of artisans too! With my recent visit, they carried a Fair Trade Chocolate Brand that was new to me, it was called Raaka Chocolate. It’s not only Fair Trade, but it also had many organic ingredients which is awesome! Supporting farmers and the people who make our products is super important for me, so knowing this Coffee House also supports the fair trade movement is encouraging for me. Another product they had was a hand poured soy based candle, where the encompassing container is reusable, should the buyer choose to to reuse it! Even though it was pricey, I still thought it was really cool!

Let’s just say there is a reason they have five stars on Unilocal.Easily the best cup of coffee I’ve had outside of San Francisco/Oakland. Their branding is on point, short and sweet. Inside their little shop is quite an experience, walls lined beautiful with hand-made quality products and well designed«States» gear. Everywhere you turn is a possible set up for a photo shoot, from the Eames chairs, to the draped tattered American Flag. It’s an enjoyable experience to put it shortly, so much so, I should of ordered the second offering brewed from the row of hard working Chemex’s … Hats off, thanks for well thought out experience.

I went with my family for the first time yesterday and we loved it! The baristas were very friendly, and the Lattes they made were delicious. We will definitely come back.

Excellent coffee is a big plus since that’s what I came there for. Seating gets full easy, so that is one downside. Hipsters everywhere big downside. I still give 5 stars because I’m always about quality over quantity.

It’s about time I get around to writing a review for States. Call them premium, hipster, high end, whatever you want; I call them delicious! States roasts their own beans and I believe them to be at the same level or better than the other well known premium(blue bottle, ritual, four barrel) coffee places in the Bay Area. I’ve had their pour over, which is an experience to be savored slowly while sitting on the comfy couch or chairs in their spacious semi-industrial space. In addition to the pour over, I have enjoyed a mocha which is meticulously made using a scale to ensure proper amounts of chocolate(not too sweet, not too bitter), YUM! The donuts are a bonus and provide a nice treat on those days when a little something extra is needed. States understands its clientele very well. I have stopped here on more than one bike ride. There is a full bike repair station with pump and repair stand outside for those mid-ride tweaks. Inside you’ll find a variety of handcrafted goods and chocolates for sale, great for gifts or splurging on yourself. Martinez and northern Contra Costa County needed something like this for so long, and now it is here!

What a great addition for Martinez! This town is so diverse, with so many little shops and places to go, including a great selection of coffee shops to go to; this is another one. The look & vibe of this place, along with the staff that work there; all amazing! Such a high-quality product for any BIG city, and we have it, right here in Martinez! My personal favorite is the sparkling Tea served in what looks like, beer bottles. Very hip look to this place and I really enjoy every time I walk in there. There is something always new going on there. The owners are very hard-working, and it emulates to their staff. They want the best quality products for their customers and it shows, day in and day out. I also appreciate that they are very community oriented and participate in a lot of public events for downtown Martinez. Hats off to you guys, you’ve done a great job! Keep up the great work! I Martinez!

The lattes abd other coffee drinks are always excellent. The customer service was not good this time. The barista may have been having a bad day. It came off as snobby. It was a if speaking to customers was not her job.

Stopped by before dispensing justice as a juror, and what an oasis this place is. The cappuccino was like drinking a fine wine. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. They are just about to open a roaster as well next door.

Nothing beats a perfectly frothed cappuccino in a warm hand spun ceramic cup. The ceramic cups are just the begging. This place is so good in so many ways. Tasty drinks, amazing atmosphere and wonderful american made goods for sale. I decided to purchase a bag of the espresso to go. I can say this is the best home-brew Ive ever had. Cant wait to be back.

This is a fantastic café. The coffee is top, top notch; I would compare it to blue bottle in attention to roasting and pour-over prep, but without the obnoxious’tude. The space, as everyone seems to note, is lovely: modern and industrial, but also warm and welcoming; bustling but not crowded; great street patio(with a super cool bike fixing station). It also has a gallery wall of beautiful locally designed hipstery/modern merch that I wish I could afford… Range from perfect sculptural tiny planters for mosses and air plants, to awesome canvas shoulder bags and lots of other objects of hip desire.(Note, though, I think this stuff is priced for the same people who buy the small, $ 8 bottles of juice you’ll find in their cooler. … And no, that’s not a typo.) You might think from my borderline snarky comment about those prices that there’s a snooty vibe here, but no – everyone I’ve ever encountered here — staff and customers alike — is just so awesome and friendly and down to earth.(And it’s worth noting that the coffee itself, while not cheap, is not unreasonably priced.) I think maybe it’s that surprise… That when you walk in, you half expect this place to be just too over the top cool, then you quickly realize it’s actually got this great community vibe… that makes States a slam dunk 5-star spot for me.

First visit and I am quite impressed. I feel like I’m cheating on Barrelista up the street. But as I was corrected, it isn’t cheating it is sharing :-). The staff are very knowledgeable and want to talk with you about their products, the idea behind the shop and more. They’re laid back but professional and attentive. I ordered an almond milk cap. with a hint of chocolate. They — and I am kicking myself for not asking names yet — came over and asked if it was enough chocolate flavor for me. How thoughtful! They sell some really nifty items that are not coffee related and some that are — but mostly not :-). Check them out, support local — and they do support local and USA made.

When I first read Elite Unilocaler Rachel Ann C’s review for States Mercantile Coffee, I thought to myself«seriously, another coffee shop in Martinez?» I bookmarked it anyways since I know this girl knows what’s up when it comes to good coffee. I’m so glad I did. It turns out this just may be the best coffee shop in Martinez and well beyond. I’m a huge Mountain Grounds fan but this place is different. The renovated antique building looks spectacular. They roast their own coffee on site which is a major plus for me. It didn’t begin all that rosy. When the barista informed us that they follow the annoying hipster trend of only serving almond milk instead of soymilk, we were about to walk out. Then my babygirl said she would buy me a latte since I can tolerate almond milk so that I could try the place, even if she wasn’t able to get anything as she’s not a black coffee drinker. Gazing at the pastry display, the owner informed us that the donuts were from Posh Bakery and VEGAN! I almost didn’t believe him. Then I realized these appear to be the same Vegan ‘nuts as what Whole Foods sells. Yet, somehow they tasted much lighter, fresher than they do from Whole Paycheck. This alone is enough to earn my business over other coffee shops. At $ 4 with no alternative milk surcharge price gouging, it’s not a bad deal for the quality. The latte came in a uniquely shaped cup so I can only guess the size was 10oz? I noticed the latte art was extremely well done. Especially for almond milk. It was smooth and tasty. I couldn’t get enough to the point of it being gone before I knew it. Almond milk tends to taste burnt and bitter when steamed. She did a great job with it even if I don’t prefer almond. The owner informed us that they will soon be sourcing a custom blended non-dairy milk that I can’t wait to try! They have bottled cold brew for sale along with some tea. I would love to see a nitro cold brew and I can’t wait to return to try some pour over. That’s where you can really tell the quality of what’s being roasted. Until then, I found a new favorite coffee place. Although that reason is mainly due to the donuts being Vegan, the coffee stands easily on it’s own though. Is there enough room in Martinez for three outstanding coffee shops? I don’t see why not. Especially if enough folks choose any of them over Starbucks.

To see this spot built off the side of Martinez’s old-timey historic downtown is just SO refreshing. I’ve been following this shop for a while since its start, and it’s so great to see what they’re bringing to this side of the East Bay. Right off the bat, the entire brand and décor of States Coffee is GORGEOUS. The owners have found a beautiful red-brick building to match with an awesome USA map fixture. The space is very clean and minimalist, with lots of local handmade companies and brands in store. There isn’t too much seating in the shop and it has more of a lounge kind of feel, though it makes for great photos and a quiet spot for early risers. The menu is VERY simple, but effective. The owners are actually really successful coffee connoisseurs from Portland’s own coffee scene. The Cold Brew, which is roasted and prepared in-store, was surprisingly VERY easy to sip on – light, refreshing and not too bitter.(They also sell them in glass bottles to-go). Their Iced Latte is one of the SMOOTHEST lattes I have ever had in my life, as well. They also had some Affogatos during their launch party and those were yummy – rich espresso bathing around vanilla gelato. Beside the store, they plan to have a roasting room where people can come in and see their beans and roasts and see the whole process of coffee-making. I LOVE that idea and can’t wait until they get that started. The staff is some of the most welcoming and friendly I’ve met. They approach their store with the local feel, proud to share their product with new customers and welcoming back old ones. They’re also very proud to let peeking customers after-hours in to show them what they have and preview their local merch.(Oh, and they’ve also just released their new States shirts – show some pride and put Martinez on the map!) It’s nice to know places like this are popping up around my hometown. I love supporting small businesses, and I’ve never been disappointed here.
