I just ordered the Nan Gyo Thoke — Rice noodles, chicken curry chili spices fish sauce lime Etc. this is my first dining experience and I ordered it to go. This dish had poor presentation though tasty, everything except the chicken in it which was a big disappointment. The meager portions of chicken were all dark meat, with fat, gristle and a big hunk of skin, as if the cook had just thrown the worst parts into the dish-the part you would normally toss out. That much lack of care in preparation is pretty astonishing. Though the rest of the dish was tasty and well seasoned, which is why I gave my review one star, I will never go back.

Really friendly staff who chatted it up with us. Good selection of Burmese food with a filipino menu that we will try another time. Love having new places nearby and like giving back to those who try to better the community. Hope they expand the place more in the future and can’t wait to try more items off the menu.

Just tried this place tonight because I wanted something different than the usual places I go to in Martinez. The previous reviews all had good things to say. First of all the owner is very friendly and even though I ordered for take out he gave me a free appetizer. I enjoyed it while I was waiting for my food. The meals I bought, were awesome! Definitely coming back to try the other food on the menu. The servings are very generous. The chef also brought the food to me and showed me the contents and said«it’s a killer meal, you’ll love it». It’s great how the owner and the chef take great pride in the food.

TL;DR: Huge portions, unique experience. Support local small businesses! This place is a bit hidden since it’s in the outskirts of downtown Martinez. It’s a bit small, and seemed like a hole in the wall, which initially made us nervous for the quality of the food. We ordered the Mango Chutney Pork and the Catfish Stew with Rice Noodles. Right before our meal came out, our server handed us a small plate of their Burmese Tea Salad– it was delicious and flavorful. We didn’t expect to get to sample the salad, and I would definitely order the full size in the future. The Mango Chutney Pork was tender and the portions were massive. I wish it came with another scoop of rice because there was so much meat! It was a green mango chutney, so it was mildly sour and limey which complemented the pork well. We were nervous about the Catfish Stew because we were afraid that it would be overly fishy. But we were wrong. The stew was perfect and delicious, it had a mild curry flavor and the chewy rice noodles went well with the stew. Make sure you mix it well as the flakes of fish settle at the bottom. The stew was topped with deep fried onions, and 10 minutes into our meal, the chef walked out with a small plate of more onions, accompanied with other fried veggies. It was a pleasant surprise! At the end of our meal, the chef came out again and offered us a small sample of their Cassava Cake. It was soft and sweet, and a reminded me of Chinese cassava cake. He took the time to chat with us and made sure that our meal was to our satisfaction. The only thing that disappointed us… Was the fact that not a lot of people seem to know about this restaurant. We sat down at around 10:15am and left at around 12pm… And only one other customer came in during that time frame. Don’t be fooled by the tiny space and secluded location, this place has the best food and service that I have experienced in a while. Each dish is around $ 9, and you get a ton of food as well. Give this place a try, you won’t be disappointed.

We tried the jasmine juice, oxtail, catfish, and tea leaf salad, and they were all delicious! Service was very friendly, and we got to try a delicious coconut dessert compliments of the chef. We’ll be back!

I rarely review, but this small local restaurant needs our support. It is an affordable and delicious ethnic restaurant. Has become one of my regulars for takeout along with La Primavera and 88 Noodle House.

After reading some of the other reviews, sounds like this restaurant was suffering from an identity crisis, serving Burmese, Chinese, Filipino, and even sushi. As a fan of Burmese food, I decided to give this place a shot, and discovered that they are now exclusively serving Burmese food, which is a blessing because they do it so well. The owner(Tanny?) was extremely friendly and we had a nice brief chat while I dined at his restaurant. I ordered the Burmese Lamb Masala and was very impressed, not just with the quality of the dish, but with the quantity. Looking forward to coming back and trying everything else on the menu. Also one of the previous reviewers stated that this was cash only but they now accept credit cards.

My wife and I ate here today during her jury duty’s lunch break. We ordered the Tea leaf salad, Chicken Masala w/potato and Nan Gyi Khoke noodles. All the food was great, tasty and of course, customer service was phenomenal. I’m glad we don’t have to drive to Burma Superstar in Oakland for some Burmese food and Tea Leaf salad. I will definitely be coming back. Two thumbs up!!!

Service is noteworthy, and the rainbow salad was paleo-friendly. We got an appetizer of fried veggies and sweet-tasting tamarind sauce. This bistro doesn’t use preservatives and the dishes hold a great balance with the seasonings and textures. Will come again soon for the oxtail! Also, CASHONLY.

So happy to have Burmese food in Martinez with great customer service! They have simplified their lunch menu to traditional specialties making it easier to decide and everything was delicious. My son is a picky eater but loved the Rainbow Noodle dish with lots of roasted nuts and crispy veggies mixed in. The fish chowder with noodles was exceptionally tasty. The standout dish was their Burmese Ginger Salad that was hand tossed at our table, it is made with cabbage and deceptively filling. Their were several dishes that other customers were raving about that I plan to try when we return such as the Oxtail dish.

This is going to be a premature review as they have been in this location for only a few months. Yes. The manager and the owner are eager to please the customers. They tried out the other Asian food along with Burmese food in the beginning and came to conclude that they will drop others and concentrate on Burmese traditional food along with regional specialties from different parts of Burma. Burmese style Tofu salad, ox-tail curry, Shan style spicy kim-chee, mushroom kim-chee, and many others will be introduced. At this moment, not many items on the menu. Traditional Mohinga, Coconut Noodle soups, Tea leaf salad, ginger salads and Balachan(Spicy Dried Shrimp) are pretty good. Their Burmese Biriyani needs a lot of improvement. Rice in the Biriyani is crushed. Presentation is a bit lack here in general. Their location in Oakland(Grocery Café) is well established, and having a lot of good reviews. The Orinda location(Refined Palate) is also just a few months old and still trying to establish some following. I will follow up closely and update later.

5 stars for service, everyone was really pulling out the stops. But I’m giving 3 stars because the food is not that great. But they were so nice I really hate to do it. I got a few things to try, including sushi, and it looks and tastes like the sushi you could buy at the grocery store. I’m not sure why they keep it on the menu. I also got a curry dish that was ok. I would recommend that they size down their menu to items they do really really well, and then enhance the menu later.

Me and my friend found this place on our way to Contra Costa services, I was surprised that this place served Filipino breakfast. I ordered bangus breakfast that comes with 2 eggs 2 garlic rice and a piece of fried banana. My friend ordered longsilog with 4pieces of longganiza 2eggs and fried banana and 2garlic rice. It was a fast service, coffee needs improvement but their food is really delicious! Very Small place but also very clean. I will definitely coming back when I’m in the area. I am not sushi fan but their sushi looks good too.

Three stars for food, and an extra star for the fantastic service. We arrived just before closing and were apologetically leaving, but the chef graciously invited us to stay. «I’ll stay open if you’d like dinner, no problem!» Another restaurant from William Lue of Grocery Café, TW Burmese, and Refined Palate fame. The menu is limited, and more sushi and less Burmese than expected… but the Pacheco Bistro is still young, hopefully the Burmese menu will expand. We had the Burmese Ginger Salad, yakatori, gyoza, shumai, tempura, tempura shrimp rolls, and a chef’s special chicken dish. It was all really good, really fresh, and I’d get each of the dishes again… but the star of the evening was that ginger salad. Man! The friendly chef came out to check on us throughout the meal, and came and talked to us once we were finished. Very small restaurant(room for maybe 12?), so it felt like he was just, you know, hanging out with us, making us dinner and stuff. Super friendly guy. Is tomorrow too soon to go back for more of that ginger salad?
