This is a nice«pocket» Park that I pass(and occasionally stop) on the way home as I travel south on Alhambra Avenue. John Muir Memorial Park is a small, contemplative space, and features a larger than life sculpture of John Muir, sitting in nature. I like it because it provides a short respite and a brief sanctuary as the world whizzes by. The park was dedicated on December 6, 1990, and is surrounded by a cathedral of twenty redwood trees, with Muir in the center. The circle pathway around the structure allows you to view the sculpture of Muir from every angle. A plaque reads: John Muir 1838 — 1914. «I care to live only to entice people to look at nature’s loveliness.»

Nice little park area that is encircled by beautiful redwood trees and an ivy ground covering around the perimeter of the park. Park features the following: 3 car parking lot Statue of John Muir recording thoughts in a book Big boulders for sitting Two memorial information plaques Park lacks the following: Benches Doggie poop bags Water fountain This park is not be good for young small children as it is located on a very busy street and doesn’t have anything that would hold a small child’s attention. This park is a nice place to take an older elementary school age child as there is much to be learned from the two park plaques. In addition older children would probably enjoy climbing the boulders and traipsing through the ivy and pine needles.
