First off, the GOOD: The room I picked looked exactly as advertised. The furnishings were well done and the room was very cute. The bed was soft but comfortable and there were plenty of good pillows to choose from. There is a microwave and small fridge in the room that the owners stock with water and coke. The jacuzzi tub was great! Breakfast was VERY good, much better than I expected, in fact. The dog is awesome and I spent much of my breakfast petting and playing fetch with her. Now, the BAD: there is a railroad track about 100 feet from the property that blows it’s horn at 3am… for about 5 minutes straight. I used to live by a railroad track so I know there is absolutely nothing they can do about it, but if you aren’t used to it, it may wake you up. On to the UGLY: The owners were not what I expected at a bed and breakfast. I have never stayed in one before, and after this experience, may never stay in one again. My best friend chose this location as she was getting married in nearby Long Lane, MO. She had her photographer show up to take some getting ready photos and it started to rain while they were out in the yard. They knocked on the door and the owner told them that the only way to be allowed to take pictures in the house would be to pay more. Not super friendly, but okay, I guess I can understand that. When we came in for breakfast, we were a few minutes late as we were waiting for our pre-wedding party to all show up. My boyfriend and I had one suite and the bride and her husband had rented another. That’s two rooms — so two tables at breakfast in my book. She tried to get my boyfriend to sit with us during our girls pre-wedding breakfast as she said we were all«one reservation.» He ended up sitting alone, but I hate that it was awkward for everyone involved. I don’t think she was trying to be rude, but it just didn’t make everyone feel comfortable. Once breakfast was started, she was quite friendly and talkative. I was hoping for a more southern hospitality type feel, I guess. Anyway, the rooms are great, so if that’s all you are looking for it’s an A+ in my book. And it is walking distance from the«downtown» area so there are a few restaurants to go to. Plus, you can’t get a better breakfast at any hotel I’ve been to.
