Marshall, Ill. When I first walked in the hallway carpet appeared faded and a little dirty. But the room was nice and clean.

Couldn’t find a place to stay in Terre Haute, and we were in a real jam and had to rush west to find something. We were pleasantly surprised by this Super 8 not far away. We were greeted right away by a friendly woman and a good rate. We were able to get a smoking room(rare these days) with a king size bed, a fridge and coffee maker, that was newish and clean. There was a nice looking indoor pool that I can’t speak to. The motel was dead quiet and very comfy. Breakfast in the morning was good for the price, and we were happy to see fancy name brand yogurt among the little spread. Remember, this place was about $ 60, so we didn’t expect eggs benedict. The wi-fi was a cable internet speed; fast enough for Netflix. We had a steak across the street that calmed our nerves. They were a sight for sore eyes and more than delivered for what we paid.

I’ve had reasonably good luck with Super 8 and Red Roof Inn, and generally, I’ll find one or the other. I was at a calling for my cousin and decided that I was close enough to Illinois to drive to Vandalia in the morning to photograph another Madonna of the Trail, as I did recently in Springfield, OH. After all, why drive 150+ miles across the state, do what needs to be done to show respect, and drive home when you could take advantage of the location? So, I found this Super 8 location not far into Illinois from Indiana. It seemed reasonable and the desk clerk was friendly. I didn’t have any discounts so it was just over $ 61.00. I suppose that’s not bad but it’s not really cheap, either. The room has a good sized(comfortable) bed, a table with two chairs, a recliner, a TV, and a fridge. They also included a coffee maker and a hair dryer – plus they have the continental breakfast from 6 – 9 a.m. She didn’t mention if it was flown here daily from The Continent or not. Being that this is a 5 star hotel – oh, wait! I love having a clean room. That is a wonderful thing. A good lock on the door is helpful, too. I should tell you about the Super 8 outside Atlanta, GA… or maybe, you won’t want to know. This place in Marshall seems great in comparison with most locations. I think that they need to finish some maintenance work but oh well, I need to work on my own house.

Ms. Carol was great! We got a non-smoking room because I have a newborn but you could still smell cigarette smoke pretty strong in the room. The room was very nice and my daughter took advantage of the indoor pool. Hubbie took advantage of the free internet. If not for the strong cigarette smell I would have given 4.

Room was clean and didn’t have any strange smells in it. Bathroom was also nice and clean. Free Internet and room also had a fridge which was a nice bonus.

On our cross country trip, I decided we’d stay in Super 8 motels along the way. They’re cheap and usually pretty clean. After all, all I need is a bed to sleep in, a shower, and I leave in the morning, right? This Super 8 was«A-OK» compared to the others I stayed in. The service had that«I have better things to do than help you» attitude and the bathroom had a funky smell to it, but otherwise it was clean. The upside was that the price was reasonable, they did have a pool, free internet, close to the I-70, and right near some gas stations. I would stay here again if I was in Marshall, but I wouldn’t tailor my trip around it.
