This is now my new favorite place to eat in the Pittsburgh market. I never write a review online, but had such a great experience with this restaurant from the staff to the food I just had to say something. I highly recommend this place. I took my wife here for Valentine’s Day and every meal we had(bread, appetizers, salad, entrée and desert.) To top it all off at the end of the meal they brought my wife a rose and three extra cookies. Highly recommend this place for your next meal.

Ate there back in December, food was good. Service was fine. I had the Bison burger, done just right. It was a Sunday night and it was quite. No reason not to go back again. Word is they have home made gelato.

Very good atmosphere and so far I have not had a bad meal there! Wonderful sincere servers too! It is nice to have such a good place close to home for once! The only thing I’d say needs improved is the menu. Our last visit consisted of 3 things in the menu that you were out of, which didn’t leave much left to choose from. There was also something still on there that you took off a while ago, but still had it on there and no replacement for it? Overall good experience and will be returning!

Having never been to «Uncle Bob’s», I think I am a more objective reviewer, and I can honestly say we loved our experience here. We had reservations for Saturday, and the hostesses who greeted us were very friendly. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, and the beer selection was really good. For our meal, we ordered the Brussels sprouts and fish tacos. Both were delicious! At our table, we had the pastrami burger, shrimp and grits, and beet salad with salmon. Every bite was eaten, and we all can’t wait to come back.

Stopped in for lunch. Sat at the very nice bar and ordered the Portabella sandwich with grilled asparagus. Bar tender was very pleasant to talk with got me everything I needed. The mushroom was huge!, grilled just right and the asparagus was seasoned very good. Sandwich was very good. Will be back for sure.

Third time there. This time first for Sunday brunch. Eggs Benedict with crabcakes, roasted potatoes everything was fresh. Also had a bacon bloody mary. I do believe this was the best breakfast I’ve ever had. Plenty of deliciousness on your plate, almost too much. It’s all good as is the staff too. Refreshing and independent restaurant.

We ate here twice. Once when they first opened and most recently this past Sunday. The first time we went they had just opened a few weeks earlier. We were told they were having a large party that night and we could not sit in the restaurant, but there was room in the bar. So we sat in the bar. My husband and I both had sandwiches and a soft drink. Both were okay, but nothing exceptional. This past Sunday we noticed their sign Sunday brunch. We were under the impression this was a brunch buffet so we stopped. We were very disappointed to find a very limited menu. We both had omelets. Again, they were simply okay. We were charged a dollar extra for toast(which is usually included most places we go) and 2.75 each for coffee. Both times the servers were very pleasant. In my opinion this is just another overpriced restaurant for the Cranberry crowd. You pay a lot of money for a small amount of food. Both times we were still hungry when we left. Nice atmosphere, but just not my thing. I was more an «Uncle Bob’s» kind of patron.

Had Sunday Brunch. Service was great– our coffee was always full. The waffle was light but crunchy. French toast was good as well. We will be back!

Unfortunately things haven’t changed much. Beer selection is still decent. Food on the other hand, is just OK. We went here twice in the past two weeks. I got the soup of the day, Asiago cheese and sausage chili. The local radio personality told me it was good. So I ordered it. It was watery and very little meat, and what cheese? I asked for crackers and she said we have bread. So I got some of that too. I ordered a water to drink. On the drive home I had issues, good thing my sphincter is the smartest muscle in my body. STAYAWAYFROMTHECHILI. My colleagues ordered the burgers and said those were good. Second time, I ordered shrimp and grits. It was ok, too. The tails were still on the shrimp? I had to remove them or suffer. It was warm when I got it. I ordered fries with it, warm as well. It took exactly 30 minutes to get our food, 4 orders. Shrimp and grits, a salad, crab dip, and a flat pizza. Very dissatisfied. You have to be careful with what you order here. Service is sub par and it will take a while to get your food. It’s overpriced. I would really like to see how the kitchen is ran, I watch enough of those stupid cooking shows to run a kitchen, and how to coordinate the times on food. Ugh!!! I won’t order food from here again, just drink the beer.

I can’t believe the low ratings. I’ve been there four times and never had a bad meal. Great beer selection with a computerized menu that describes the beer. The food is different than you get at 90% of the other restaurants in the area. But that’s the reason to go. Of course Echo was a great restaurant and the Philistines in this area didn’t appreciate that place. Keep up the good work Breakneck.

So disappointing… This place has all the potential in the world but fell short across the board. Service was slow, food was bad. Beer and drink list was good. Atmosphere was nice. But… Everything was so salty. We had a creole/crab appetizer, and though it was filled with crab, it was way too salty. My wife ordered a steak to be made medium and it was cooked well done. Not acceptable for a restaurant that aspires to be first rate. There was a sauce or demi glaze that was… you guessed it… salty. The brussel sprouts were undercooked and cold, although the new potatoes were good; they were cold as well. I had the lobster mac and cheese. It was good and had lots of lobster, but the lobster was overcooked. I also had a side of zucchini that was pretty good. The waitress touted their desserts. So we ordered the salted caramel cheesecake. Sounded great, but it was awful. Someone got overzealous with«orange zest»(or something similar). It was almost like eating a sour patch kid. The bitterness completely obliterated the creaminess. I could taste orange for the next three hours. I’d love to say we’ll be back. Maybe for a drink or beer someday. Maybe not.

I am always excited when there is something new in my area! So, I was really excited to try Breakneck. Plus, my bf’s golf buddy had been here and gave the joint a solid thumbs up. This is said to be a farm to table restaurant, another plus. We decided to visit on a recent Friday night, making a reservation on open table. This would not have been necessary, the dining room was sparsely populated during our entire visit. We were greeted? by a less then enthusiastic host duo, their faces void of any hint of welcome or smile. We requested and got a booth. We both really liked the interior, industrial ceiling, lots of artsy touches that included silver mesh dividers on the back of the booths to light fixtures that seem to be created out of vintage blue glass insulators and beautiful wooden table tops. Even after the lukewarm greeting, I was really excited now. Our server was fairly attentive. They have a nice list of cocktails, however, I opted for water. The bf got his usual, draft beer. For our meals, the bf ordered The Cajun Blue Crab Pasta. This dish consists of jumbo lump crab, tomatoes, sweet corn, red peppers, linguini pasta served in a Cajun cream sauce. Our server mentioned that is was only mildly spicy, so he requested that they add a little more spice. I ordered the Quinoa and Baby Kale Salad. It included avocado, red onion, orange, candied walnuts with balsamic vinaigrette and opted to add a crab cake on the side. Our bread basket included 3 rolls, a sesame seed covered crescent roll, a braid and a knot. The disappointment was the entrees themselves. The bf’s pasta was ridiculously spicy. So bad, it was impossible to taste the other ingredients. As for my salad, one of the main ingredients was avocado and my salad had none. But our server explained that away by saying that the line cook has never worked in a restaurant before, so she must of missed that. Well, that certainly sounds like a good excuse, no? No. Since my bf couldn’t finish his fiery pasta and I was missing my avocado, we decided to have dessert. We shared a salted caramel cheesecake and it was good. All in all, not a great experience. Next time, we might try the bar.

I was tempted to give this restaurant two stars based on the food, but our server Valerie was pretty great. I met some friends here for happy hour, which is inside the bar area, but does not extend to the patio. Today was beautiful, so we’d rather sit outside. No biggie. We tried to order the mussels, but the kitchen was already out. Out of product on a Friday night is a chef issue. Mussels are not seasonal, nor a rare item. Ok, fine. So, we ordered the tuna lettuce wraps. Not good. The tuna was sliced thin and seared, with diced carrot and celery, and drenched in a creamy horseradish sauce. The flavors just didn’t go well together. At all. Three wraps came out. We ate 1 ½. We then decided to try the crab dip with pita chips. The pita chips were seriously the best thing about the plate. The dip was ok, but very cream cheesy. The crab topping was tasty. Our drinks were all decent, and our server was excellent, but the food was disappointing. Could have been an off night. Who knows. May give it another chance down the road.

I was really excited to try this place. It looks very welcoming from the outside and I checked out the menu online, which looks great! I came here with 2 others for dinner and we were seated right away. The interior is awesome. I love the colors and all the windows make for a bright dinning room. The bar area also looked very nice and I really liked the open concept they had going on. Service was good as far as our waitress checking on us and getting us re-fills. I wanted a black cherry cider beer, but unfortunately they had run out of it. No biggie! I asked for another recommendation of a fruity beer and ended up going with Fat Head’s beer. We ordered the pork belly sliders for an appetizer which were really good. Super spicy, but I don’t mine that! I had a salad and soup for dinner. My soup was the beer cheese soup and it came topped with popcorn! Cute touch. It was alright, needed some more flavor but it wasn’t too bad. My salad came out and it looked delicious! Fresh grilled chicken on top made it just right. I tried the lemon cilantro dressing and at first I liked it, but then I couldn’t get away from the overwhelming taste of salt. It was too much. My friend agreed that the dressing was super salty, and her burger was also very salty. So next time, hopefully they are a little less heavy handed on the salt! I will be trying Breakneck again as they had just recently opened when I went and I think they will only get better over time. Their menu is unique, quality, and fresh!

We have been waiting for Breakneck Tavern to finish their remodel and open in the former Good Olé Uncle Bob’s. The place looks really good, bar is nicely opened up, screened in outdoor seating on one side and the dining room looks nice with comfy plush booths. The bar stools are cute but quite uncomfortable. Tough to sit in them at the bar for very long. I expect growing pains on any new restaurant and this one clearly has a way to go. The bar menu at this point in time is a miss. The sandwich menu had few choices: salmon blt, mahi Cuban, catfish poboy, crab cake, portobello & grilled cheese. The word ‘Tavern’ is in the name — this isn’t tavern food. My husband asked if they offered a burger and was told it’s only offered at lunch. No meat offering at all is a clear miss. We both ordered the Mahi Cuban & both regretted it immediately. Too tall to bite through & after one bite both our plates were swimming in sauce that spilled out. You couldn’t get a bite of all the ingredients together because they slid apart so badly and nothing had much flavor on its own. I also ordered a side of Brussel Sprouts for a small upcharge of $ 2. Some arrived undercooked & a couple were actually cold and all were lacking flavor. The draft list is pretty good with many choices however, the ones included on their happy hour menu are few. Dinner menu has items in the high $ 20’s to mid $ 30’s range. Not sure if Mars is quite the upscale destination to support this. Time will tell. Growing pains here for sure. I look forward to seeing how much they work on this restaurant over the next few months. It has potential.

We were anxious to check out this place and decided to give it a try. First off, it looks nothing like Uncle Bob’s and is completely redone on the inside. Large bar area, separate dining area with hostesses(sure not like Uncle Bob’s!). We arrived around 4:30 and wanted to sit at the bar and order some sandwiches and some beer. Found out Happy hour starts at 5:00 but we went ahead with ordering from the non-HH menu. OK, here’s the good things about Breakneck Tavern. It’s not Uncle Bob’s. It’s an attempt to bring finer dining to the area. The décor looks pretty decent. The bartenders were super friendly and attentive. They have a good craft beer list. The bad? The bar stools are hideous. Slanted backs that push you forward, very hard and supremely uncomfortable. I would not be able to sit there and drink more than one beer without writhing in pain. The menu. I wanted bar food, sandwiches, wings, anything a typical bar would offer. There are no wings, no chicken sandwiches, and get this, NOBURGERSONTHEMENU! I asked. Nope. We only have burgers at lunch. Really? How can you not have burgers? The sandwich offerings were salmon, a mahi Cuban, a catfish Po Boy, grilled cheese, and a grilled portobello. Not one meat dish there. I tried the Mahi Cuban and would not recommend it. I thought it didn’t have much taste and was incredibly messy. The entrees looked decent and ranged from leg of lamb, skirt steak, to bone-in rib eye with prices in the $ 25-$ 29 range. Seems steep but maybe they are superb. I don’t want to sit at the bar and eat leg of lamb or filet mignon. I would love the option of a burger. Or some wings. Bar food. My advice? Get a bar menu. Cook me a burger. I know they’re feeling their way. I’m being optimistic giving them three stars and do so in the hopes that they’ll fix things. They have a few to work on. Right now I’m having fond memories of Good Old Uncle Bob’s…

My friend and I heard about this restaurant from a co-worker. We were initially going to go downtown but then the storm arrived so we decided to stay close to the hotel and try this restaurant instead. Since this is a newer restaurant, the interior was nice and fresh. They have about 40 different beers on trap as well as crafted cocktails. I ordered the Short Line Club — it raspberry, egg white and bourbon or something. I forget… all I remember is, I’m not ordering it again. The alcohol taste was super strong and the egg white had this smell that was pretty off putting. I ordered the crab cake sammich w/brussels sprouts(instead of fries). The crab cake sat on a fried green tomato and topped with arugula between two slices of bread. The Sammich was actually pretty good. The brussels sprouts weren’t — bitter, bland and wasn’t properly roasted — they looked like they were charred then steamed. We actually ordered fried rock shrimp since we’re two fat kids at heart and couldn’t wait to get our main courses. *sigh* The rock shrimps were tasty. They had two dips with it; balsamic and a green avocado — they could have left the green one off. Anyway… not bad over all. I may have just ordered the wrong items. Oh, I forgot, the glass smelled funky — maybe from the detergent? We couldn’t figure it out.

This place is a home run. My wife and I had dinner here tonight and it is a welcomed new restaurant to our favorites list. Plenty of great beers on tap. An excellent menu ranging from burgers to steak and ahi tuna(which is what we ordered). Generous portions and very high quality meats and veggies. Pricing was fair for the quality… I don’t mind paying a bit more for a great meal, as we had. The atmosphere is semi trendy but not too much to scare away the locals. A nice sized bar area with TVs and smaller tables, and a separate dining only area. We sat at a small table in the bar area and had great service. We will be back, for sure.
