Going to Phils to read the billboard is worth 5 stars all by itself. But. Phils also has ice cream and beer and all sorts of knicknacks. It’s just a small party store but the staff is very friendly and when I’d forgotten my bloody mary fixins Phils had them. Nuff said

Meh. They’re just a convenience store. Too much hype for something that isn’t really that big of a deal.

There are a number of ways to get plowed at Phil’s 550 store, depending on the season. In winter, he can plow your driveway. In summer, he can provide you with a great selection of party supplies, whether you are on your way to «camp», as is said in the U.P., or if you are on your way, like we were, to the Mud Drags and Bikini Run in Big Bay. Phil is a true Renaissance Yooper: an experienced welder, a storekeeper, a Reverend who has officated over 30 nuptials, none of which(at least of this writing) have resulted in divorce. How many Rev’s have that kind of record. He also has a Monday morning radio show on local station WUPX: «Felix’s Random, Retro, Radio Roadshow», and he probably has more friends than anyone I know, based upon all the customer photos all over his store, and on his website. Check out the pics of international«sightings» of the very popular Phil’s 550 tee shirt which asks: «Have you had your Phil today?» So if you are in the Marquette area, a stop at Phil’s is de rigueur. He has a great, if limited, selection of beers, wines and liquors. You can snarf some quality wines both domestic and imported(like the Spanish Abrazo Grenacho I found for about $ 8.00) And if you’re lucky, Phil will be there to chat you up and give you any advice you may need. I’ve been here many times, and I’ll never have my Phil of Phil’s.
