I had a chance to stay here on a short«vacation» last year. While the beds were not very comfortable and the toilet was missing a seat, the ambiance more than made up for those paltry quibbles! The«restaurant» is really one of a kind. I was very pleased with the food, and would recommend you try the Nutraloaf. It was really well seasoned and they give generous portions! I really appreciated the community style seating, as well. Every time you come down to eat in the morning, you get to meet a new person, which is great considering people are always buried in their iPhone’s these days. You don’t have to worry about that here, though, becuause you surrender your phone at the«front desk» on arrival. All in all, I would give this place a 4/5, subtracting one star because for some reason they lock you in your rooms at night, which can be a pain if you’re looking to take in dinner and a movie or experience Marquette’s eclectic art scene.

For prisons this one has a bit of class. Nice old but still active with some history. They have an award winning flower garden during the summer, though this is not a good picnic area. Would not suggest this as a vacation spot.

Had an opportunity to tour this facility about 6 months ago, it was really interesting and the history of the facility was fascinating. Learning about the inner-workings of a facility like this while moving through the general population and seeing the tasks that need to be completed throughout every day and the security measures that need to be constantly followed is truly a learning experience for anyone interested in the operations and management practices of a well run and professional incarceration facility Beautiful architecture and gardens to boot.
