To be quite honest every meal was cooked to perfection, including desert. The ambiance is very relaxing and the view made everything come together! Everyone was so kind and welcoming. I will definitely be coming back next time I’m in town.

Right on the main street in marlboro so parking is okay… You could almost drive right by and miss it. Really does look like an old saloon from the west. Burgers are out of this world. A decent number of beers. Great prices.

Went for early dinner yesterday. Usually we go for lunch for their turkey and was surprised We couldn’t get it for dinner. Hubby can’t eat seafood so he had the well advertised best burger and I had the seafood moray. Both were Excellent!!! View is good, service attentive. Will definitely be back for dinner

The swordfish BLT& hamburger were both absolutely delicious, as was the crab & corn chowder. Everything tasted fresh and was cooked perfectly. Service was mediocre(friendly but slow), that’s the only reason it gets a 4 instead of a 5

Terrible service here. Been to this place more times than I wish to remember. My wife grew up in the area and it’s a nostalgic thing for her. Even she admits that is the only reason to come. Maybe home made ketchup is another reason(for her)

Went to this place with a small group, I had the burger, it came with no lettuce or tomatoes, service was slow, food was ok, i think a Diner would have been better, the place looked very tired and rundown, and dirty, the only thing that was good was the view out the back window

Very good hamburger. The 12 oz burger was at least an inch thick and cooked perfectly throughout. The vegeburger was good too. We strongly recommend both. We were told about waterfalls outside but those were not impressive. However, which we hadn’t been told about, there was a river in the distance and it was beautiful. The food took a while(maybe because the burger was so thick) and everything else was average; the décor did leave something to be desired. We would have given it a 3.5 if we could, but the burger was so good we rounded up lol.

This place needs a little TLC. The windows are filthy. The menu has not changed in ages. The chairs are uncomfortable and should be replaced. My date & I had burgers both OK but nothing to write home about. The drinks were overpriced & the place empty. Enough said.

Came here because we saw online they had crab cakes. When you’re driving by this little place you’d really have no idea of the view of the Hudson once you’re inside. This place is slanted and old, it really is amazing aesthetic. It was a great hung to see on my trip to NY

Tradition is a beautiful thing. Unless it’s some awful things that subjects family members to pain due to silly cultural norms. Like poor treatment of children, or going to uncle bob’s apartment. Terrible things. Usually it’s nice though. The Racoon Saloon will always have a special place in my heart. Every year my family and I would head over after we finished apple picking. Driving into a town this small is surreal for someone like me, so it always seemed really cool. Once I got inside however is when the magic began. The views the place provides over the cliffs are unreal. I remember the back was covered with hundreds of raccoons. It’s was pretty neat for a kid to see. Having gone back this past year, I didn’t see any raccoons. The food, charm, and friendly staff still remain though. I got an open face turkey sandwich with a special stuffing. I remember getting mini kid mugs for hot cocoa, that I would always bring home. No cocoa mug this time around. Just one filled with beer. They have a great selection of brews. It was nostalgic to come back to the place, and I’m glad to see its still producing a fine product.

Dan suggested the average rating. I’ll go with that since we only went in for beer(basic selection) and appetizers. I didn’t see anything I would have ordered for an appetizer. Dan got tortillas. Sorry, I’m not stuffy but just not my speed. We enjoyed the bites and beer at Newburgh Brewing. We probably should have just eaten at Tuthilldistilling. Looking for the best burger? Do it at Henry’s.

The Raccoon Saloon will always have a special place in my heart. Right smack dab in the middle of town, it’s nice that I barely have to drive ten minutes from my house to get a good, quality meal. I’ve been dining here since I was about 14. I remember walking to to the restaurant after school(It’s only about half a mile from MHS), asking to be seated in my regular spot by the window, and using the money from my weekend job to get a four course meal. I sure felt cool! The restaurant itself is a pretty unique building, having been constructed sometime in the 1800’s. In it’s younger days it served as a bustling inn, famous for it’s fantastic views of the Hudson. Although you can no longer stay the night, the restaurant maintains the rustic charm that you’d expect and hope for from a place with so much history. The interior boasts a relatively large dining area, split into 3 sections, two of which can easily be used for private parties and meetings. The bar is of a smaller size; I believe it can only seat about 10 people. It is made of a nicely lacquered wood, although I’m not sure what kind, and I would not be surprised if it’s the original from it’s hotel/tavern days. If you are coming here for lunch I strongly suggest you try to get a seat by the window, the view of the falls will take your breath away and create a great backdrop for your meal. Now as for the food, there are four menu items that I get nearly every time, and are so amazing I implore you to give them a try. I’m sure the rest of the menu is just as great, but I’ll only speak on these item’s since they are what I know best. To start, the Black Truffle Chicken Liver Pâté is wonderful! Served on a bed of greens with oiled toast points, this is a perfect appetizer or light lunch. The pâté comes in four thickly cut, generous slices. I usually have to ask for extra toast because they give you so much. The combination of the rich, savory, and smooth pâté spread on a light and crunchy toast point is truly mouth watering. Be sure to ask for some dressing on the side for the greens, because they give you enough for it to be considered a salad. Next up is the classic crock of French Onion soup. The soup itself is delicious. Perfectly flavorful, it certainly does not fall under the ‘watery’ category I find when it comes to French Onion served at many other places. Served piping hot fresh out of the oven, the thick cheese layer is slightly crisp on top, and wonderfully melted on bottom. They also give you a good sized chunk of bread in the soup, which is refreshing since many times restaurants will just throw in some croutons, leaving much to be desired in my opinion. I suggest you eat it slowly, and really appreciate just how right they get this soup. Three words; Mussels Belgium Style. SOGOOD. Served in a white wine garlic cream sauce with a few of the toasted points mentioned earlier, they really hit a home run with this. The portion is pretty big so it’s perfect to split between two people; but if that is the case, prepare to be fighting over the last mussel, because it will happen, trust me. Don’t be afraid to dip those toasted points in the sauce once the mussels are all gone either, you won’t be disappointed.(You can thank me later.) And lastly, they have the best veggie burger I have ever tasted. Served on a large, fluffy, buttery bun, the burger is almost like a large patty of veggies and stuffing perfectly combined. As someone who hogs all the stuffing at thanksgiving, biting into this heavenly sandwich is just that: heavenly. I suggest getting the sweet potato fries on the side, since they are made fresh there and are a great compliment to the burger(and anything else really). Some other things worth mentioning: The bread and the ketchup. Before dinner(and lunch, if you ask) they serve fresh baked bread with olive oil, and the combination is great. Don’t be afraid to ask for more, since I can easily go through the four or so slices on my own rather quickly. As for the ketchup, they make their own! It is really wonderful and worth trying, and it always tastes super fresh. To wrap things up, the Raccoon is a wonderful place for both lunch and dinner. The food is great, the building itself is worth checking out, and the view is just the cherry on top. The pricing is also reasonable. It’s rare that you can find a place selling great quality, homemade cuisine that doesn’t require you having to break the bank to enjoy it. A children’s menu is also available, so don’t be afraid to bring them along as well.

This was a very incredible dining experience. My friend and I sat by the window enjoying the view of a waterfall, drinking wine. And when my salmon arrived, I was blown away!!! It was the best salmon I EVER had!!! Can’t wait to go back!

On my recent visit to the Hudson River Valley, I had the chance to stop in at this quaint little eatery. What once was a popular Inn for the area has now long since been made into a relaxed spot for food and drink. Upon first glance, you’re not quite sure what to expect from the outside. Parking is annoying. You can only park in front of the inn. It’s parallel parking, so if the handful of spots are taken, good luck trying to play«frogger» while trying to cross! Once you get past the awkward parking though, you’re immediately greeted with a real homely and cozy ambiance. If you can, opt for window seating for the opportunity to admire the gorgeous views. The food is ok, not much to write home about. I’ve stopped for lunch and wasn’t impressed. Had the swordfish BLT with guac and it was honestly one of those meals you feel like you could’ve made better, at home. I can say I definitely have had more success with their starters. If you want quality, go for the Mussels Belgium Style or Grilled Portabella Mushroom with Sautéed Baby Spinach — both are decently sized and wicked yummy. My personal favorite has to be their Black Truffle Chicken Liver Pâté on Toast Points and Greens. It’s a little out there, but if you want to try something different and ridiculously good, give this a shot! As a french-fry-fanatic, I must admit that their regular and sweet potato fries are pretty legit. Served with their fruity house-made ketchup, both come out piping hot. Pitched as upscale dining, I really don’t think the lunch menu can justify the above-average costs. Maybe I will have to come back for dinner to give them another try. The staff was welcoming and personable, and service is as equally satisfying. And if you’re in the area for a quick bite, or have a moment to soak in the beautiful views of the Hudson, stop in for a starter and some coffee!

My husband, 2 friends, and I were at the nearby Benmarl winery for a Valentine’s Day weekend wine, chocolate, and cheese tasting. I wanted to try this place since it had decent Unilocal reviews, and it was a short distance away. I wish I had listened to the negative reviews. My husband ordered a petite burger, and he said it was pretty bad. He ordered it cooked medium, and it was cooked all the way through. His fries were well seasoned but overcooked. I had the swordfish sandwich, which wasn’t bad, but there was nothing special about it. The fish itself was pretty mild and could have used more seasoning, and most of the flavor came from the bacon and avocado. The sweet potato fries were incredibly disappointing. They were overcooked, yet soggy, and I ended up tossing them after bringing them home. For $ 11, I guess you get what you pay for. My martini was decent, but even if I was back in the area to go to the winery, I would skip this place next time. Views were good, service was fair(it took a good 10 minutes for the drinks to come), and the food was nothing memorable.

Stopped in here for a quick drink, so my 3 stars probably doesn’t do this place justice. The location was quite scenic… the dining tables overlooked some waterfalls but we had to sit at the bar. The bartender and staff were extremely friendly and quite entertaining. I’d have liked to have tried the food at this place because it looked pretty good. Consider this a high 3 stars with an option to upgrade to 4 if I ever get to come back here and try the food.

Friendly service and very good dinner specials. Awesome view of sheer cliff and waterfall. I just couldn’t get over the really bad coffee and the even worse dessert; the waitstaff should have dissuaded us from ordering the post-meal fare instead of letting us suffer interminably.

I came here recently with my parents when I was visiting them in the Hudson River Valley. I was here years ago as well but have no memory of what I ate. I do remember the stunning view of the river and little waterfall from inside the inn, however, and it didn’t disappoint this time either. Be sure to get a table near the windows in order to enjoy this great view. The food is fine, but wasn’t anything amazing in my opinion. I had the crab cake sandwich with sweet potato fries. The crab cake was a bit mushy, but that’s preferable to being dry. The fries were pretty good. I was not a fan of the house catsup, and I have a feeling a lot of other people must not be either since the waitress made a point of bringing over Heinz right away. The parking situation is also a bit awkward here since you can only park right in front of the inn, but it’s parallel parking, so if you happen to be arriving from the other direction, you have to find parking on a side street unless you want to circle around to come back the other way to park in front. There’s also no good place to cross the street to get to the inn, so you just have to take your chances and cross the highway. All in all, I think this is a charming place to eat if you’re in the area. The food may not be stellar, but the views are.
