Disc golf was a frequent and pleasant diversion during grad school, an opportunity for both exercise and the simple pleasures of being outside in such a beautiful area. Having two courses of very different profiles within easy driving range was great. This is the easier of the two courses, by far. The landscape is pretty level throughout, although the last six holes or so are the steepest. Most holes are wide open and the pins fairly accessible, making this a good course for large groups or beginners, because you won’t lose discs or have exceedingly difficult shots. A good player will still find the course sufficiently challenging and making a run at overall par is not often out of the question. My personal best was probably +3 or so by the end, as the holes on the back nine are longer and can be more challenging. The buildings that surround the course are abandoned army lands, so you’ll likely either find it really cool or kinda sketchy, with lots of broken windows and debris scattered about. There tend to be tournaments or events on weekend mornings, but you can play amidst or with them if you want, and we rarely ran into groups backing up into one another because of crowds. It’s a friendly sport and you’ll find friendly people here, and the CSUMB folks who maintain the course do a good job — there are poles to try and recover discs from trees and trashcans, but no facilities. It’s not the best course I’ve ever played but it’s always a good time.
