Everything is perfect about this place. It is a five minute walk from where I live. It is a two and a half minutes bike ride from where I live. It is a one minute car ride from where I live. The portion sizes are perfect. The service is impeccable. The bread is so warm and sumptuous. I went there a few weeks ago and I thought to myself, I’m coming back here every single day for the rest of my life. They are now closed and gone forever with no explanation. Why didn’t you say goodbye to me dear friend? Why? Why? Why?

I luuuv this place How could it be only 4 stars average? I was like«Omg this is the one that I’ve been imagining to treat myself!!!» I love the atmosphere, the pasta; esp. gnocchi which I took, and even the bread and olive oil!!! I m visiting again for sure!

We are so disappointed to see that they have closed. This was our go-to Italian restaurant in the area, walking distance from our house. I’m not a big fan of the other popular Italian restaurant in our neighborhood. Best of luck to Amber and the others who made this place great!

Nooooooo! Sign on the door says Macchi’s is permanently CLOSED! Does anyone know what happened? Are they opening anywhere else?

Macchi’s Bistro has been sold and is permanently closed. A completely new restaurant will open in its place in 2015. It was an amazing place with one of the best staff ever — both front of the house and back of the house! The last day of operation was 11÷09÷14 and ended with a huge celebration! Be on the lookout for your favorite servers, bussers, and kitchen staff at various nearby restaurants.

Macchi’s Bistro was a nice surprise. First of all their bread and two dips it comes with is hot and excellent! The one thing that I felt they could do better on is their tomatoes on their Caprese salad. They were small and nothing outstanding about them. I felt the order was small for the price. The Shrimp Diablo was very good and I will get it again. I will be back. One suggestion to Macchie’s is to put your web site link on Unilocal along with your menu.

Not my thing… There was not even one organic item on the menu but prices high enough that I expect higher quality food(and all free of GMO’s). Wont go back :/

LOVED this place! It’s perfect for a family diner. First date… Maybe, maybe not… Unless you don’t mind paper napkins rather than linen. However, you just can’t beat the food & value! It’s a very cute restaurant with excellent food and service at the best prices in town. The Seafood Pasta Pescatore is to die for! Muscles– to die for! Great Caesars salad and the Spicy Tuna Tartare is super. Tiramisu is home made, authentic and excellent! Their house wine at $ 7 per glass is better than most at $ 20. And they fill the glasses appropriately, not ¼ full. Scott was our waiter, and we couldn’t have asked for anyone more attentive or sweeter! Their fantastic hot home made bread just kept on coming with deeelish garlic basil to dip. Heck, I just mentioned to my husband that I’d like some sparkling water, and poof, it just arrived 30 seconds later! We are soooo there every Sunday diner, working our way through their menu! I’ll keep you posted.

First night in our marina apt and came here(bc a lot of other restaurants in the area were packed) but it was empty! The food was decent– I ordered the linguine pescatore, and my bf ordered the penne al vodka w/shrimp. What I liked; the bread. It’s literally FRESH out the oven bc I burned my finger trying to hold it while cutting it. But worth it, with the olive oil & basil? Service was mediocre at best. Our waitress was wearing as dress as if she was ready to change out her shoes & hit the club. Oh honey that dress won’t help you… All in all, id prob go back if I was craving a generic pasta dish, and wanted a nice quiet dinner. Oh btw our entertainment included a cougar from marina towers hitting on several of the staff hahaha

I’m so glad we walked in this place. Randomly looking for a dinner on Venice beach, we came in this place and were pleasantly surprised. Note, they only have a beer and wine menu — no cocktails or liquor — so if that’s a deal breaker for you this isn’t your place. Overall ambiance is pretty modern bistro, cool dark lighting and industrial looking. I ordered the seasonal arugula and apple salad — I could eat that every day. Fresh arugula, apple, cranberries, blue cheese crumbles and balsamic. Yum. My fiancé and I split a margarita pizza and it was pretty delicious, very garlic-ey and the crust was great. He also got the meatballs — stay away from those. Absolutely no flavor! And a weird texture. Overall it was fantastic. I’d eat here again for sure!

Everything I had here was excellent. The wine, the dinner salad, the bread with chimichurri, and the homemade Tiramisu. It was all great– except for the entrée. I had the rigatoni pasta with chicken(which I subbed for sausage) and I couldn’t finish it. I should note that I’m not such a picky eater. And even when I’m not crazy about a meal I’m usually able to finish it. But this was different. The«white wine cream sauce» was thick, mushy and tasteless. It reminded me a lot of a very starchy clam chowder that had been left out and solidified. Really quite terrible. I was really disappointed and confused, especially since I very much enjoyed every other part of the meal. Unfortunately, the piece of the meal that matters most brought down the entire experience.

Came here for a wedding rehearsal dinner. The hostess told us the table we were to sit at was towards the back but there were two tables set up for a large party. Usually the hostess shows you to the table but oh well. The server brought us some really good and fresh bread with olive oil garlic sauce. It was really popular with my party and we maybe had several helpings. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful. We ordered several appetizers: fried calamari.brushetta. .etc. The calamari was pretty good and the ham was quite good with the bread. I ordered the spicy sausage pizza and it was cooked well but had so much green peppers that it overwhelmed the pizza and I could barely taste the sausage. There needed to be a better balance of the two. My wife ordered the vodka penne pasta which was decent but the sauce was not as thick as it should be compared to other places. As I was leaving the owner or manager was not friendly or even said a «thanks for coming» as we all left. I know that’s minor but at least let customers leave on a good note and thanking them for their patronage so that they will recommend this place. It’s not a bad place but it’s not exactly stellar either but if they want to fill this place on a Friday night rather than being half empty the some slight improvements need to be made.

Really bad food. That’s basically my summary. We ordered clams, prosciutto with melon and a caprese as appetizers. All three were dull, tasteless and put together with bad quality ingredients. It was simple but not ‘simple’ in what quality Italian food should be. The staff is rushed and wants you out ASAP. The guy who served us bread had a huge tattoo on his neck, including two huge lipstick marks. This doesn’t belong in a restaurant.

Went here with a friend after purchasing a Living Social for the restaurant. We arrive a little after 9pm and were happy to see that there were a couple tables with patrons still at the restaurant. For our meal we decided to split the spicy sausage pizza and the rigatoni with sage cream, broccoli, and chicken. I have to say that both dishes were very tasty, with the pasta being my favorite. The sauce the pasta came with wasn’t your typical alfredo sauce and actually had a nice flavor and consistency. The pizza was also decent and filled with toppings. Not the best ever, but the combination of ingredients gave it a nice spice. Overall, the service was friendly and food came out quickly. Everything tasted good and was plenty for two people. Definitely a steal with the Living Social.

I will start with the good. I have been an active customer of Alejo’s for some 20 – 30 years. So, I was anxious to try this place. My favorite salad is the house chopped salad which I get without turkey because it’s kind of dry and I’m not a fan. The salad was delicious. Just the right amount of lettuce, a little cheese, a little salami and the garbanzo beans = delicious. Dressing is great. The bread was also very good. Now for the bad: My husband ordered the penne with chicken in cream sauce. It was flavorless. No garlic. No onions. Very disappointing. I ordered the rigatoni with meat sauce. Although the tomato base was good, the meat was chewy and inedible. How hard is it to sauté some normal ground beef? Also, quite disappointing. I will likely not be returning here but will instead just order out from Eddie’s on Lincoln and Washington. Too bad about the sauces. Yuck.

I wish I could give 3 ½ stars as I didn’t love my meal but everyone else at my table thought their food was terrific. Service was great. Nice happy hour pricing on wines and appetizers. One of my guests had salmon and just loved their meal. I had pesto gnocchi and wasn’t thrilled with it. Another guest had pizza and enjoyed it. I would give this another try and order something else. Great service, nice atmosphere and a wide variety of menu choices.

Macchi’s Bistro was worth trying once to experience a different restaurant, but neither Olivia Z. or I thought it excelled at anything. Given the competitive market for American-style Italian cuisine on the West side, quiet Macchi’s didn’t really distinguish or damn itself in any area. It’s a typical a-ok restaurant. * Warm Bread loaves with Olive Oil Dip were quickly and repeatedly delivered to the table. At the end of the meal, the bread might of been the most memorable(4 stars) * Caprese appetizer($ 10) is a standard for us. At Macchi’s it has four servings of thick Mozzarella di Bufala on reddish Tomato slices and drizzled with Balsamic Reduction and Olive Oil. The cheese wasn’t as creamy as I love, but it was ok.(3 stars) * Linguine Pescatore($ 17) was a bowl of Linguine pasta and thin Tomato Sauce with Calamari, Mussels, Clams, and Shrimp. Olivia stuck to this dish. For me, the sauce was blah and the squid rings were way too chewy.(3 stars) * Penne Alla Vodka with Chicken & Mushrooms($ 16) had a light pink Vodka Sauce mixed with Penne pasta tubes, a few Mushroom slices, and chunks of white Chicken meat. It needed a little crushed red pepper for flavor and didn’t stand out at all.(3 stars) * A half Carafe of Chianti($ 10) was a good deal for two people to share. It’s the«house wine» and isn’t a great wine, but it was totally-fine wine.(3 stars) Happy hour is 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., so we just missed it at a quarter after 6:00. There was a sign for a parking lot behind the restaurant, but we easily found a meter spot(free after 6:00) in front. The restaurant is large; however, it was very quiet with only a handful of customers. The peaceful dining was nice and meant servers were always available when needed. Macchi’s Bistro was simply a-ok.
