I’ve been going to Ege for years and love both the food and service here. I believe the restaurant is family-owned and they make you feel at home at the restaurant. Some of my favorite dishes are the dragon roll and the fish cakes(off menu). So tasty! It’s a great place to get some tasty sushi in Roswell at a great value as well.

My favorite place for sushi in East Cobb/Marietta! I’m surprised it took me this long to write a review, but I’ve been to Ege almost once a month– sometimes for lunch, sometimes for dinner. I’ve yet to leave the place unhappy. It sits in an unassuming shopping center with Kroger on Roswell Road. Not a very large restaurant by any means. There’s plenty of parking, especially given the limited seating inside. After entering the blue Japanese style curtains at the entrance, you’ll often be welcomed by the staff. There are a few tables for 4, maybe one large table for a bigger party, and a sushi bar. I’ve only ever seen 2 servers there, both of whom are very nice and attentive. Some super busy times aside, these ladies are on top of their game. And just about every time I go, I will see at least a few Japanese people enjoying the food and chatting with staff. I always take that as a good sign. I’ve gotten a few different things here, including my staples such as the 2 piece salmon sushi(sake), rainbow roll, or chirashi don. But most of the time, I will opt for one of their sushi combinations. It’s quite filling, probably more than you should eat in one sitting. You’ll get chef’s selection of 5 sushi pieces, your pick from one of a few basic rolls(I prefer tempura roll), a soup and salad, and ice cream at the end. All that for right around $ 16, and you get it cheaper during lunch time. What sets Ege apart from other sushi places I’ve been to around town is the quality of the fish. They have THE best salmon I’ve had. The flavor is rich, fatty, silky, and just flat out delicious without the need for any soy sauce. They also have the best tasting sushi rice mix. Other places can go too much or not enough of the vinegar or sugar, but Ege’s mix just right, every single time! I would not describe their sushi roll options as vast or complex by any means, but that is just fine by me. I prefer simple rolls that focus on the flavor of the fish. I should also note their salad and miso soup are also solid. The salad dressing is never overpowering. The tempura is also tasty, maybe not the most greasy one I’ve had, but it fits with the minimalist approach of the restaurant. Even the plating follows this theme. It’s never over the top or trying to take the spotlight away from the fish.

I would say this is one of the best Japanese(not only sushi, yes whole Japanese cuisine I’m talking about) restaurant in GA. If you want to have authentic Japanese cuisine experience, you must try. But if you are expecting Rusan’s sort of imitation Japanese food, then probably you shouldn’t go. I am from Japan and I go there often to enjoy real Japanese food! Someone was saying in their review, sushi was not flavorfull, well, sushi shouldn’t be flavorfull first of all. Sushi should be for simply enjoy fish and rice. And their sushi is just perfect. No over power sauce or crazy things on sushi. If you are ready to taste true authentic Japanese cuisine, you have to go! If you go there weekend night, you need to be patient because the restaurant is pretty small and always packed on weekend. But you will find lots of Japanese people there,. It’s good sign!

I asked the waitress for gluten free(GF) soy sauce. The waitress response to my question was, «Japanese don’t eat GF soy sauce.» You could imagine my being taken aback by this response. I know for sure that some Japanese do eat GF soy sauce. The sushi and sashimi were okay. Nothing to write home about. Also, I didn’t like that the raw fish wasn’t VERYCOLD, as it should have been. Also, we were asked to leave because they were closing. Fair enough, because we were done with our meal.

This place is truly no-frills at all. We ordered the sushi platter for two and they were out of half the stuff on it plus did not give us the desert. Chef was going to go over to Kroger to buy us ice cream instead. The sushi was not flavorful at all. The calamari appetizer was an extremely small portion for the price. The waitress was very nice but I feel as though they should’ve taken something off our bill if they couldn’t have completed our order. They did not.

Salmon sushi was a perfect 4… Really yum. Sushi rolls were more like 3.5. Lacked some luster . Overall experience wax 3.5. Small restaurant with only one other occupied table and they squeezed us right next to them… Regardless it’s worth a visit. Carolann

It was alright. The selection was mediocre. I was never so underwhelmed in eating a salad in my life. There were 2.5 pieces of lettuce, a smidge of dressing and very little else. I doubt I would return…

I really like this place. It’s small, charming, simple and when it comes to dining at places of ethnicity aside from«American,» there’s often times something to be said about seeing people of that particular ethnicity actually dining there. It’s pretty conveniently located in a massive Kroger-anchored shopping center in East Cobb, so there’s tons of free parking available, despite the fact that the establishment itself is quite small, and can barely seat maybe like 25 – 30 people tops. If the size of the place doesn’t encourage you to possibly make a reservation if you’re hell bent on dining there, then their website of a laughable degree of minimalism will spell it out for you. Allegedly, on peak busyness, food can run out there, but given the quality of it, I can actually understand why. Needless to say, Ege is the kind of place that I not only come to for the food, but the fact that it’s just kind of been this relaxing atmosphere every time I’ve dined in. I enjoy sitting at the bar, watching the same two sushi chefs every time I’ve been there honing their craft, and going back to the whole«actual Japanese people there» thing, just listening to the banter between staff piques my interest in wondering how much high school and college Japanese I still remember. But the food is the most important thing about the place, and for a place boasting sushi in their namesake, I’m pleased that they certainly deliver on that front. Sure, I could pay $ 20 at Ru San’s and get a buffet and stuff myself silly, or I can remind myself that I’m not 19 years old anymore and pay $ 20 and get a fantastic sushi plate with two rolls and chef’s choice of fresh, generously cut sushi. Their tuna has never been any color other than the vibrant reddish pink of fresh tuna, and their salmon has never had that limp feeling of raw salmon a few days beyond its peak freshness. Not to go unnoticed is how generous they are with avocado; it’s like one roll gets an entire avocado within it, and not like those aforementioned places that literally tries to milk a single avocado within entire plates. There’s really not much else to extol about Ege, because that would defeat the purpose of praising their simplicity. It’s a small place conveniently located, with a calm and charming atmosphere, friendly staff, and excellent food that also doesn’t make me feel like I’m going broke dining there. It’s the kind of place I recommend to others, but at the same time, am not heartbroken if they don’t go, because that just means the spots at the bar I like might be open for when I go there again.

Delightful! It is very small and simple, but the real deal. Super fresh, beautifully presented, and reasonably priced for the high quality. The service was nice though I heard from the staff as well as other reviews that it gets busy and crowded. The menu may seem simple, but if you have something authentic that you want, ask and see if they can make it for you. They made me a squid and shiso roll and it was divine — I was thinking about it the rest of the evening.

Food poisoning, three days. Good luck whoever wants to roll the dice don’t say I didn’t warn you when your insides are falling out. I used to love this place… never again Also, I wanted to mention that the service was straight up condescending, I got a ‘salad’ with my meal that was four pieces of lettuce, when I asked why I was given what appeared like someone’s left overs for my salad she said, «We dont want you to get to full» uh… I have never in my life heard that before. They’ve really gone downhill.

Ege is a small Japanese restaurant in the Kroger shopping center(Pavilions at Eastlake) on Roswell Rd. This is an authentic Japanese restaurant with a Japanese staff and Japanese clientele. The restaurant has limited hours, space, and staff, so you may want to call ahead to make sure the place isn’t too busy before your visit for lunch or dinner. The restaurant has a sushi bar with up to two sushi chefs working at any given time. The bar can seat about 10 people. There are about six tables for four, so table seating capacity is about 24. Total capacity is about 30 – 35 customers. The interior is simple and nondescript. There’s not much in terms of ambiance or décor. It’s a casual and for some, quick, little eatery. I’ve noticed a lot of folks like to call in orders and pick them up. Small, but respectable, sushi menu. The menu features 20 different kinds of nigiri and over 20 kinds of rolls. I prefer nigiri. The nigiri selection is okay. The common nigiri types are offered at about $ 6 for two pieces. Their best nigiri being toro(bluefin tuna belly). The sushi rolls are simple. You won’t find anything too crazy here. Most rolls are under $ 10 each. Different sushi and sashimi combos and platters(chef’s choice) are available. Other Japanese cuisine offered includes donburi(rice bowls), yakitori(meat skewers), tempura, teriyaki(grilled meats), tonkatsu(fried pork cutlet), tatsuta age(fried chicken), and noodles(soba and udon). Dinner entrees are typically around $ 15 each. Lunch specials are available, most of which are under $ 10. I’ve tried the $ 9 Sushi Lunch which comes with five pieces of chef’s choice nigiri and one California roll(imitation crab, avocado, cucumber) and the Zaru Soba(cold buckwheat noodles, $ 8). The sushi is very good, but I can find better soba noodles at Super H Mart. Typical nigiri you’d find in the Sushi Lunch are basic pieces such as tuna, yellowtail, salmon, tilapia(«white fish» on the menu), shrimp, and squid. The quality of the fish is quite good. The sushi is fresh, soft, and has melt-in-your-mouth like qualities(the sign of good sushi). My only gripe with the Sushi Lunch is it’s not very filling. You may want to order something like a side or appetizer to accompany it. The soba noodles are individually prepared and boiled for each order. The noodles are served in two large clumps, placed onto a bamboo(zaru) mat. The noodles are sprinkled with ultra thin slices of dried seaweed. The entrée is served with a cup of soba dipping sauce, wasabi, and finely chopped scallion. Some people like to mix the scallion into the dipping sauce. I’m not sure what’s up with Ege’s soba noodles. I know the noodles are supposed to be bland and most of the flavor comes from the dipping sauce, but these soba noodles seem to be exceptionally unappetizing. I do notice they are a lighter color than soba I’m normally accustomed to and noodles themselves lack any bite or chew. Most meals are accompanied with miso soup and a small green salad with ginger dressing. Service can be spotty depending on the number of servers and customers at any given time. I’ve seen just two servers work feverishly for a packed house. Service time suffers — once your order is served, you may not see your server again until it’s time for the check. The servers are friendly and polite. They just lack manpower sometimes.

Midweek sushi hunt — now that it is somewhat spring — meant trying this nearby joint with a very distinct rep for not bending to the trendy sushi tip. Have to say that rep is very well deserved. The space is VERY small — we’re talking Tokyo small. Functionally parties of more than four can’t work. Sorry. Just not enough manpower. But what manpower there is is very, very skilled and polite. Started with some edamame that was not overcooked or over salted. Hint. Hint. From there went with a combo of their quick sushi order menu and their special menu. The sushi menu is just a sort of crib sheet, but makes things much easier. Opted for a double order of unagi along with their take on a dragon roll and a spider roll. From the hand-written specials menu, a roasted oyster option for $ 7.50(2 pieces) sounded different. After the server helpfully warned the roasted oyster would take a good 30 min we settled in on the edamame along with a welcome Sapporo draft. After 15 min or so the dragon and spider appeared, clean and without heavy sauces or otherwise fancy, distracting bits. Oishī. Just really nicely done rolls without too much salt or vinegar in the rice. In fact, this is the first sushi joint in a long time that I can say that you should default to your dipping saucer(me low-sodium soy sauce and a bunch of wasabi) rather than not — the fish is that lightly seasoned/not hidden. Yum. Next up the unagi. Four pieces arrived starkly, simply on a bamboo tray. They were not at all stark in flavor. Tender and salty with that distinctive earthy, eel bite. Really a great execution of the style. Then the oysters. Think Asian oysters Rockefeller — with seaweed and ponzu standing in for spinach and cheese. A great savory, slurpy, decadent finish to a nice meal. Bottomline, not the cheapest sushi around and not the most high-end surroundings. Flashy eye-ball pop not a priority. But if your focus is on fresh, interesting food that you have absolutely NOHOPE of preparing yourself at home — then you’ll give Ege a go. Do it the middle of the week, before 7pm and you pretty much have hired a top flight sushi chef for the evening. Try to top that any where in the metro ATL, much less East Cobb. Have to head back for some sashimi.
