This place is terrific. Located between Margaretville and Arkville on Route 28, it’s the sort of place you might be tempted to dismiss as just another anonymous roadside eatery as you zip on by. But no; proprietors Doug and Tina have made The Inn Between something special. The fanciest restaurant in the Catskill Mountains may be just ten miles down the road — the justly revered Peekamoose — but it has to be said that Doug’s cooking holds its own with that on offer at the mighty Moose. The standard menu is chock-a-block with inventive entrees, and the specials are worthy of the designation ‘special’. And that’s not all; oh, no. If you’re looking for a timber saw painted with woodlands scenes — and, honestly, who isn’t? — take heart: painted saws line the walls, available for purchase. And Margaretville Bowl is just across the street. A martini, a snow-covered barn painted across the blade of a two-handed saw, and a hearty game of nine-pins — now that’s a fine night out in the Catskills.
