Met up with some family here for lunch. Everyone ordered extremely different items and all reported back as very good. I got the fried tenderloin and oh man was it good! I like the little tangy mayo that they add on for you. I believe it was lemon mayo. I opted for potato salad as my side… not so pleased with that one. It was bland and the potato chunks were huge. It just needed more flavor overall. The service was pretty good though, I would come back and give it another shot… cause that sandwich did hit the spot!

We have eaten there 3 times now.
Nice environment, friendly staff.
Its cute inside and out.
The food seems to be the limiting factor.
The first time there the food was just ok.
The second time it was literally awful and we didn’t finish it.
This last time it was just ok again.
This is sad because it’s a small town and there are not a lot of places to eat that have a non fast food
environment.
Maybe if you just wanted drinks…
It has a bar too.

Been a regular at this establishment for years. My husband’s favorite place to eat and mingle with the owner and wait staff. Nice selection of food options from sandwiches to steak and fish dinners. Would definately recommend.

Been to Café 20 many, many times and have never had bad food. Sometimes slow service, sometimes a wait for a table on a Friday or Saturday night, but overall the food is always good. We like that we can stay in town to eat rather than driving to Rockford or Crystal Lake/​Randall Rd and still have a good meal out. Prices are reasonable. Some family favorites include the BLT Club, the grilled chicken sandwich, the clam chowder, the Friday fish fry and the tacos on Taco Tuesday.

Have eaten here dozens of times and the food is always good, service usually good. We also own a company in the area and order the carry out quite often for lunch. Never again. The girl who answered the phone today should probably find a job where she doesn’t have to deal with people. Completely rude. I don’t beleive I need attitude when trying to patronize your establishment. Congratulations, we will never be back.

Upon entering, we noticed the music was for once, Not glaringly loud (love that)
and we did not have to be subjected to the loud crazy kitchen music either. thanks for that too.
Nice soft music IN THE BACKGROUND where it belongs so the whole place was more peaceful.

My husband and I just bought a house in Marengo last year and were excited to try this place out since it is right down the road (and there is nothing much else around). My husband (who is 29) got hassled because he still had a Missouri driver’s license and was trying to order a beer. The waitress was unprofessional about it. She said «Uhh, you have a Missouri ID?» in a very sarcastic, yet dull tone of voice (similar to the way Butt-​Head would talk to Beavis). I found it a little disrespectful considering it was a valid ID, and he doesn’t look under 21. The food was just so-​so, but honestly, the service was what turned me off. I mean if you have to check the ID with your manager, that is fine, but be polite about it and don’t make us feel like we are juvenile delinquents when we are adults ordering our first meal since become happy homeowners.

I thought the food here was pretty good, but the service has reached an all time low. If you go inside it seems fine, if you order for carryout its a completely different story. On top of missing and wrong Items from my order, they didn’t want to honor the menu posted on thier website. The kids meal I paid 4.99 for came with only a grilled cheese. No fries, or sides of any sort, no drink, just the sandwich. When I went to pick up the food, there was a separate charge for soup. Evidently the fish tacos don’t come with soup even though the web menu says otherwise. When I presented this to the bartender, she hatefully just took it off the ticket, «this time». After seeing the wrong food I called them and asked for a manager, I was told he was too busy and that I could call back tomorrow. Needless to say, we won’t be returning ever. If you do order carryout note that they also charge a «to go fee» for every item ordered. This is not listed anywhere of course.

Stumbled upon this great little after apple picking in Woodstock and so glad we did! They have a large menu with something for everyone and all five in our group loved our entrees. The service was great all around, restaurant was clean and well maintained, and the prices were fair. Only negative that I can think of is that the complimentary bread was kind of blah but that is really digging for something to complain about.

Been to this place many times in the last 2 years after driving past it. Every time i go here the food and service is consistent. It’s always great. Have had different things off the menu each time and i always leave totally satisfied with this restaurant. I really like this spot. My favorite to this point is the salmon i had last week. Seasoned and cooked to perfection. This place has a homestyle feel to it and is always busy when i go. Must be something good here.

My hubs and I went here with another couple because this is essentially the only restaurant in town. I was nervous because of the negative reviews, but this place was great! I ordered the fish tacos (LOVED them), and we all shared the firecracker shrimp for an appy. It was delicious! The other folks at my table ordered the broiled chicken, a steak, and salmon. Nobody had complaints. My husband really liked his broiled chicken. The portions were HUGE. You really get a lot of food for the $. This place was hopping, but or server was still always checking in with us. I give it 4⁄5 stars for being yummy and a good deal. It wasn’t gourmet or anything, but it was a convenient meeting place, wasn’t too loud, and we had tons of leftovers!

This has been one of my favorite restaurants for a few years but I won’t go back. The service was good but the food was lousy. I ordered chicken marsala as I always do. Terrible! Over cooked, way too much butter and covered in green onions. The cajun chicken pasta would have been better out of a can! Seriously the quality is gone downhill. It is a shame.

Overall: A decent stop on the road for some humble food, but don’t expect anything special.
The good: Friendly service. lots of options, at least in terms of traditional food. bar atmosphere but it’s not overwhelming or loud. firewood oven. cheap prices. local feel.
The bad: the food was just mediocre. the ground steak was essentially a huge burger patty, and it wasn’t great.

I’ve only been there twice and both times were on a Friday. I give it five stars because both times I went they got everything right. Great service, timely and happy staff. The prices are very reasonable and they have a good selection of foods. As I was saying both times I went the special was the fish fry. I had the Walleye each time. It was perfect! Lightly breaded, not over cooked, nor was it greasy. My wife, being a vegetarian had pasta dishes each time being different. She really enjoyed them. Great beer selection and the bar tender will steer you in the right direction if you are looking for a nice German beer to go with your dinner.

Came here to get our Fish and Chips fix. It was ok and they had some very good beers surprisingly. Service was ok and lax but they warmed up to us as we hung out. Food was decent and was a good time. Nothing to call home about. If they stepped it up a little bit they could be crazy busy.
