Fish is good, but service was quite bad. The guy would not come out from the back to serve the waiting customers because he was making a called in platter for someone. I had to wait over 10 minutes just to buy a pound of fish, which took only 30 seconds, and he was pretty surly about it.

This place is tiny but it serves some of the freshest fish and shellfish I have had since moving here. I had been looking for a traditional fish market for some time, as meat shops and supermarkets weren’t quite cutting it. When I found Freeman’s, I was in heaven. Every kind of fish is there — halibut, tuna, tilapia, swordfish, salmon, you name it. And it’s so fresh. Their shellfish is also delicious, with favorites including shrimp and clams. They are very helpful as well; I’m always asking the best way to prepare fish and they have many suggestions and recommendations. Definitely one of my new go-to places for fresh seafood. Finally!

Great place! Hard to find a great seafood store these days. Very clean, very fresh and very professional. I will be getting my fish from here always now. Worth the trio from Millburn /Short Hills or any place near

Stopped in to find fresh wild salmon. All of the fish displayed looked really fresh. They had one selection– char salmon(spellcheck). A little pricey but Its appropriate for the season. I told the clerk I’d let him know how it was… The fish didn’t not have a ‘fishy’ smell which to me determines how fresh it is; pretty fresh. I used a honey garlic recipe that I found online. To The clerk: the results were great and the fish was amazing. I’ll be back soon.

We buy fish here 2 — 3 times a week. The fish is always fresh. Their crab cakes are also very good. You can also buy the lobster salad to make a Freeman’s style lobster roll but it never tastes as good as the ones they sell at Maplewoodstock. Most of the staff are awesome. If you ask for half a pound of fish they can pick up a piece, slice off a section, put it on the scale and voila its almost always exactly ½ pound. I just try to avoid the one sketchy-looking white guy who is constantly wiping his nose on his sleeve and he cannot cut a ½ pound portion of cod.

fresh seafood at reasonable prices. Can’t ask for much more. Their seafood salad was excellent also. I was a little disappointed they could not get halibut cheeks even thru special order.

We have passed by this place many times. The fish looks amazing… just wish that we had enough guts to try and cook it… wimpy, I know. Our go-to is the cooked shrimp. Amazing. They sell it with their homemade cocktail sauce which is awesome. It’s a special occasion appetizer that my bf will pick up to impress me, or if he is in trouble. ;) We can’t wait to try the lobster bake this summer. Or perhaps, we will get the inspiration to cook our own fish.

Delicious fish and salads! Love the lobster and shrimp salad. Why 3 stars??? The prices are ridiculously high! I understand it’s seafood, but I can’t justify spending nearly double or triple the price of what it would cost me to make the same salad. I go in every now and then as a treat… I suggest you do the same.

I love Freemans and am very lucky/spoiled to have access to such great fish. When we make fish at home, we HAVE to get it from Freemans or it just isn’t worth it. Love their scallops, shrimp and salmon especially, and their holiday shrimp cocktail platters.

Excellent seafood shop with consistently fresh fish. Very good selection of fish and shellfish ranging from various types of salmon, mollusks and shrimp. Has some premade sides, fresh veggies and bread. Best part is they will deliver with advanced ntice which helps if you are hosting a party and cannot make the trip. I also use them for all my sushi/sashimi requirements when preparing this at home.

The freshest seafood in the area. Swordfish is melt-in-your mouth tender. The shellfish, salmon, tuna, and soft shell crabs can’t be beat either. Really all the way around very good quality and variety. Glad to have this place in town.

I really like going to this place. I get ¾ lb cod fillet for when I make fish tacos. The cod is fresh, delicious, reasonably priced. I’ve tried grocery stores and other fish markets… for some reason, they cannot meet those three expectations. In addition to the cod fillet, I get two large scallops. I throw those on the grill and eat them for appetizers while I wait for fish to finish cooking. They are so tasty that way. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a local, small business fish market.

Great seafood, but not a restaurant(just for clarification). Their fresh jumbo shrimp(and sauce) may be the best party appetizer in the world. Family owned and run. Lucky to have it in the neighborhood.

A narrow hole-in-the-wall storefront is all you will see to guide you to the area’s best fish market, hands down. Freedman’s product is impeccably fresh, and its cleanliness so well maintained. A wider variety of fin fish and crustacean sizes would be icing on the cake. They receive their diver scallops in-shell, and they are magnificent. Nice people, high prices and extraordinary quality; this is «life in the fast lane» if you love fish!

A good selection of fish that’s always fresh. I’ve been buying fish at this location for years and have never been disappointed. Helpful and knowledgeable staff too. I haven’t tried their prepared foods.

This is a great place, and the assortment of fresh fish is clearly among the best in the area. Worth seeking out and /or going out of your way to get. Plus, there’s a Kings supermarket right next door if you need a few veggies to go with your dinner.

I live in a town now where small corner shops go out overnight so it is nice to see that my hometown values cornerstone establishments. My brother visits alot, and I remember my mother stopping here after shopping at King’s to get something special to make my dad for dinner when he got home. She always loved the fish here, shrimp, and I never remember dealing with a hard fishy odor in here. We started shopping here when they first opened.

I like Freeman’s Fish for the quality of their product and the authentic feel of the market; fresh seafood is the #1 focus and everything else is an afterthought. The product itself is quite good, I’ve never had any issues with freshness or quality. I would give Freeman’s a fifth star if the selection was greater; they always carry the standard salmon, haddock, etc., but less common fish(snapper, catfish, etc.) are a little harder to come by(as I’m sure they can’t sell as much as they’d like). I guess you can’t have everything.
