Vecchia scuola! Man, you just don’t see spots like this anymore. Reminds me of an Italian grocer I used to go to with my family as a kid. If these guys were in the 5 boroughs, you wouldn’t be able to come near this place. Luckily, they’re in Maplewood and appear to be flying somewhat under the radar still. Locals obviously know what’s up, evidenced by the many people who came and went during my recent visit who appear to be on a first name basis with the proprietors. It reeks of authenticity, legitimacy and deliciousness. The store is no frills, what you see is what you get, and you get what you pay for. Fantastic products, super fresh, high quality and fairly priced. Plus, they’ve been in business for over 40 years now! I haven’t had the pleasure of trying their sandwiches, fresh pastas, sausages or mozzarella yet, but I did get a bunch of cured meats, dry sausage, and various antipasti. Worth noting specifically are their sun-dried red peppers. Those alone are worth the trip — seriously. They also offer a modest but impressive selection of packaged pastas, sauces, oils, vinegars, desserts and other Italian specialty items. The best thing about it, to me, is that they are a family-run small business. Di Pietro’s has a ton of character, lots of credibility and that personal touch that you just don’t see much anymore. Highly recommended.

My boyfriend and I came here today for the very first time. This is an authentic Italian mom and pop shop. We got fresh raviolis, marinara sauce and homemade mozzarella. I heated the sauce up in a skillet with olive oil, fresh garlic, crushed red pepper, salt and pepper. I added the cooked ravioli after I boiled them for exactly five minutes. I topped with fresh Parmesan cheese and chopped parsley. Served with slices of mozzarella cheese and a glass of red wine. Absolutely scrumptious!

Love this little family run business! Really old school vibe. Sandwiches are great! Word to the wise, order lunch on the early side to be sure you get the best bread! Oh and the mini-pizzas in the fridge are a great staple to keep in your fridge for those«occasional» nights when you don’t feel like cooking for the family!

I’m a bit surprised at how few reviews this little place has. This is my family’s go-to place to buy stuffed shells and manicotti. I used to live a few blocks away from here, but I live a little bit too far to stop in often. Whenever my mom and I take a drive to Maplewood to visit my grandfather, we always pick up a few things. Our most purchased items are the stuffed shells, manicotti, and the little pizzas that they sell.

I have no idea why there aren’t any more reviews of this place?! This review is specifically for the sandwiches. We haven’t bought anything else from here. The sandwiches are simply delicious. We usually call 10 – 15 mins ahead of time to place our order and swing by to pick up. Our favorites are the Classic Italian and Jennifer’s Rockin’(proscuitto, mozzarella, marinated peppers), made to order. The only improvement I can think of is that the bread could be a little more special. But with the quality of the meat/cheese, it’s hard to complain.

Great fresh pastas, sausages, mozzarella, handmade daily, individual frozen pizzas, Italian sauces, all made on the premises and of course other great quality Italian products to delight your palate. You don’t need to go to those expensive commercial chain to eat well. I always load up when I am around the neighborhood. Worth the hour plus drive from my house. Qui si mangia bene!!!
