Great sandwiches and the softest bread used for their cheesesteaks. Nice little local sub shop

I used to live in New Jersey when I was a one-year old back in 1974. For years my parents told me about this place. As I was heading down to DC, I decided to look for this place. All I ever heard was how amazing their Italian sub and cheesesteaks were. Boy were my parents right. As for the Italian, it is absolutely amazing, with a pile of Italian meats(including capicola, I think), with some of the best tasting white bread I have ever experienced. Also, they don’t overload the veggies, so you get the meat and veggie flavors working together perfectly. But what they really nailed was the amount of salt, pepper, oil and vinegar they put on. Not too much, not too little, but absolutely right. My father told me I needed to try the cheesesteak, and he was right. He said it was the best cheesesteak had ever had(and that was back in 1974). Now I can say that it is the best cheesesteak I have ever had in 2015. It actually taste quite similar to a Jersey Mike’s cheesesteak(which was my favorite until I had this one) but the bread at The Sub Shoppe is way better. The ingredients that they use here are work together and have the most amazing taste. So yes, mom and dad, this place tastes just as good as it did 40 years ago. Thanks for tell me about it. Looking forward to going again.

The portions are huge and super reasonably priced. I usually get a buffalo chicken cheese steak and curly fries. The buff chk cheese steaks, while really good, are usually really really greasy. Then again, you only pay $ 12 for a 20 inch, so I really shouldn’t complain too much. Regular cheese steaks here are good, too. Only real complaint is that I ordered regular fries with American cheese and they arrived soggy and hard, and with slices of American cheese melted over them. I figured I would be getting the cheese in a dipping cup but no, the cheese was melted on top. Overall, you get a ton of food and it really hits the spot when you’re hankering for greasy unhealthy fare.

Hoagies are solid, as well as the pizza. Their Italian and cheeseburger hoagie are the best in town. The place has been in business for 50 years so they must be doing something right.

PLEASEMAKEMILKSHAKES! Sub Shoppe is a no brainer. In business since 1960, i was raised on this food. The subs and special sandwiches are always made fresh and the pizza is absolutely perfect especially if you spend a few seconds to express your individual preferences. I love the chicken salad with cranberries and the gigantic baked calzone. The owner Joe has always gone the mile to satisfy my insane preferences such as add the white onion to the steak 30 seconds before taking off the grill and only 15 french fries! The menu is huge and they enjoy a dedicated fan base. I graduated many years ago and its a darn reunion when I go. The one thing that really cemented my loyalty to this restaurant is their youtube video where you see Joe putting more than a pound of Thurman lunch meats on the gigantic whole hoagie. Lastly, i have noticed the ridiculously cheap board specials and website specials and when I asked why so cheap, Joe essentially the economy is bad and it was his way of giving back.

Run of the mill and pretty boring. Fish and chips was frozen and basic. Cheesesteak hoagie was good. It would have been great if not but for the lousy, flimsy roll. We have great bakeries around here. No excuse to use enriched hoagie rolls that fall apart when you pick up the sandwich.

Terrible pizza, good sandwiches. This place falls into the tiny category of inedible pizzas for me, thankfully, it does contribute to society with it’s tasty wraps and hoagies. The service has always been nice, and menu options are grand. If you’re tired of Wawa for a night, give The Sub Shoppe a shot. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to get a sandwich at 3 am to sop up the booze like you can from Wawa…
