The Rusty Hook

It is the east, and The Rusty Hook is the Sun! Excellent dive if you’re looking for a couple drinks or a few slump busters on the late night. Wheeeew!

I checked out the reviews and decided to give it a shot. Went in and the two bartenders saw me sit down. It took them five minutes to come to ask me what I was drinking. Now if it was busy I would understand. The place was not crowded, and the bartenders were cleaning up. Looked me in my eyes and walked right past me. At this point it was time for me to leave. Note to owner, hire professional wait staff. Won’t be coming back, they are nothing but a hole in the wall establishment.

Cool bar hidden off Yosemite Avenue. Stopped in with a friend to check it out and have a couple brews. I’ll be back!

This place is great! No tweakers, no posers, no gangsters, no douche bags, ha just people having a good time.
They have a great pool table, only one.
The bathroom is pretty cool.
I love a bathroom with artwork.
THe drinks are terrific.
THe bartender is hot.
Well at least the times I’ve been here I’ve noticed a hot bartender.
If you love star wars, well then this place is all about star wars and its very noticeable.
I love how the door swings open also.
I felt like I’ve really made some friends here.

Just started coming to this bar, always a good atmosphere of people. Worth it to check it out.

I’ve lived in Manteca all my life. I’ve been of patron at all the bars because there’s not much else to do in Manteca. The Rusty Hook used to be a cool place until about 2 years ago when some dope dealers and bunch of drug addicts decided to make it there hang out. Now the place is off the hook. With it being seemingly popular and packed a highly intoxicated guest or bartender might not notice what’s going on right at the tables, at the bar, in the restrooms, and out in the parking lot, but there is nothing discreet about what’s happening here. It has been my experience that it is very difficult to get drink in a timely manner and a few of the bartenders are extremely rude which exeeds their negligence for a safe environment. I WILL NOT patron the establishment any further as long as it remains this way and Highly recommend choosing somewhere else to drink.

I have to admit, The Rusty Hook does play some good music from slaps, oldies, trap, etc, and the drinks are served at reasonable prices, but there is a HUGE difference between a «bar» and a «club», but I guess people here are either too drunk or high to notice. Bartenders and bouncers are friendly though, so that’s a plus.
You definitely will meet a variety of people, from annoying to chill and creepy to wtf-​you-​looking at. I’m not saying that this place is awful, but I’m not going to say that its great either. I guess it just depends on people’s preference, and for Manteca, I guess this place is alright, but I personally wouldn’t come back here.

We ended up here after a graduation get together because we were in town. Nice little quaint spot with a cozy atmosphere. It’s a little hole in the wall spot wit alot of flavor! Once you get inside you see that they have a full bar, a pool table, a little area that could be used for dancing and an electronic jukebox. There was one bartender on duty when we first arrived. He wasted no time in greeting us and got right to preparing our drinks. I couldn’t believe when he told me it would be $ 7.00 for my Hennessy and Red Bull, that same drink would’ve been 2 times that in the Bay Area. Once we got settled in our attention went immediately to the wall full of skateboards with various designs. We enjoyed that while sipping on our drinks. We were having such a good time I wanted to capture a picture so I asked the bartender to take one, he said sure ! But unfortunately, when he went to take it my phone battery was too low to open my camera. The bartender offered me a charger and let my phone charge on the bar until it had enough juice to take our picture. Very nice ! Will be back when I’m back in town !

This place has always held a dear spot in my heart, be it one of the places a local punk band can play in, or old acquaintances being kick ass bar tenders, or the gritty feel of a valley dive bar with the friendly welcoming local feel (as long as you talk to people like they are human beings and come out of your preconceived shell) and share a laugh or a story. Even though I don’t drink anymore I’ll still welcome a stop in at the Rusty Hook. Thanks for all the memories and the open door!

First time here. Always hear the guys at work talk about this place. I figured since it looks small from the outside it would be a dive. Dives are good sometimes LOL… but not always. Very chill place to hangout.

I came out here on a Friday night after work and had a great time here. The bouncers/​security guys are genuine and down to earth, 5 stars earned.

You can tell a lot about a bar that is welcoming even when you are not a regular. Bartenders were awesome and the drinks were delicious. I got 2 bloody marys and a shock top for about 16 bucks. Went on a Sunday around 4:30 just to hangout, could tell it was a locals bar (I’m from a few cities over). When I am in Manteca I always try to stop for a delicious bloody mary!

Went on a Friday and it was packed. But I think this was due to being the week of spring break. However the bartenders didn’t let the crowd hinder their work. We got our drinks and they were great. The environment was more so of a skater scene and that is perfect for my friends and I. I recommend this place because of the environment.

Great place! Young, fun crowd… Seems like a local high school reunion bar. I’m not from here so it doesn’t bother me! Can get rowdy at night with drunk dudes reliving their high school days. Pool tables and TVs. Good bartenders that know their job!

Cody is an awesome, knowledgeable bar tender. On a super busy night my husband ordered an IPA he’s never tried before. Cody realized my husband wasn’t really diggin’ it and offered to buy his next IPA. Great service!
The patrons get a little douchey on Friday and Saturday nights, but that is expected and unavoidable… the bar is in Manteca, after all.

Before the remodel this bar was much smaller… quiter… and different. Since then, it’s LOUD, crowded, and kinda the Manteca 21 – 23 year old hang out. Which is okay if that’s what you’re into. It’s also usually under-​staffed, but the atmosphere is always fun and high-​energy.

We’ve only been once and it was packed. When you get up to the bar and meet the bartender Cody you find out why. He is the best bartender I’ve ever seen. Outstanding drinks and an all around good time.

This place is super chill. My husband went there on a Friday for a drink date. We sat at the bar and the bartender asked us what we would like to drink. I asked the bartender for something fruity, since I wasn’t sure what I was in the mood for. Mind you the bartender was this super tattoo-​ed, long mustache guy… he asked me if I wanted vodka or rum. NOBODY ASKS THAT? He made some strawberry and banana drink that was yummy.
The atmosphere is chill, they had a pool table, shuffleboard table and some TVs. Definitely will be going back there.

My roommate/​platonic lifemate goes down to Manteca all the time to visit his family (like, every week), and whenever he drags me along, it’s not long before I want to shoot myself in the head. His family is lovely enough, but there is next to nothing to do in this town – save go to the Rusty Hook.
In four words: Small Town Neighborhood Bar. Very where-​everyone-​knows-​your-​name kinda joint, but surprisingly not atall hickish. The bartender was kinda scenester actually, and there was a fair amount of 20 something working class people, kinda reminded me of my beloved On the Y in a lot of ways, as far as the more laidback atmosphere.
And you can’t beat the décor: in the corner is a kinda of fake lawn and picket fence with a baby doll in a non-​functioning toilet, some lawn furniture and a bra hanging from a laundry line.
Also: they gave me PBR in a Mason Jar. For $ 2. I repeat: PBR IN A MASON JAR FOR $ 2.
Also: this Jamaican fellow beat our asses at pool pretty badly. Which I consider a sterling recommendation as well.
I mean, if you’re gonna go to «scenic» Manteca, it’s either this or the Gnarly Winery. Actually, considering the selection of bars in a lot of bigger towns, you could do a lot worse in general. Also: I mentioned that they serve PBR in a Mason Jar, right?
