The Skyway East

Great place with an awesome menu. Prime Rib is excellent. What really makes this place is the salad bar. The décor really needs to be updated though. It feels like a time warp into the late 60’s. Definitely worth going, especially if your traveling on 71.

I wanted to take my fiancée somewhere special for her birthday, and she choose Skyway East. We both had the salad bar, baked potatoes, and strip steaks.
The steaks melted in your mouth. Everything on the salad bar was fresh and tasted homemade, including the dressings. They had matches at the table with her name on them, wishing her a happy birthday. A nice touch!
It was her first time here, but won’t be her last. The best steak we’ve had in some time.

Delightful meal at Mansfield’s premier dining establishment. Service was impeccable as always. Certainly did not need a reservation on this Thursday evening, but it is always better to have one. Matches with our name on them are a great gift. The food never disappoints here.

Unbelievable! It looks very unassuming on the outside. I completely underestimated it. Everything was top notch: the service, the food, the atmosphere. We entered and there was live music! The food was simply delicious. Our meals were delivered quickly and correctly. I can’t wait to go back. Truly a gem of a restaurant. I will most certainly recommend it to everyone.

Just a little date night. The dining experience was outstanding. If you go the SURF and Turf should be on your radar. Reservation are a must

I thoroughly enjoyed my meal of King Crab legs and NY Strip along with the salad bar. The steak had excellent flavor and the King Crab was fresh. Friday night offers ½ off bottles of wine! Excellent service — thanks to Deb!!!

I love The Skyway, I eat here with my family at least twice a month. The service is great and the food is excellent. I recommend the oysters Rockefeller, the lamb, or the crab Alfredo. You really can’t go wrong! We stop in for a quick drink at the bar or date night and are never disappointed! Carry out is available as well if you are craving a taste of the skyway at home.

Bottom line… the best service in this town and the food is always amazing! Even our young daughter was thrilled. You will not be disappointed. The restaurant has a nostalgic atmosphere which gives it an old Vegas charm.

Two things NEVER change at Skyway, the food is always excellent and the building itself (inside and out) is the same as it was 25 years ago. They definitely need a renovation, I would hate to see the place with the lights turned up. Fortunately the food makes up for the atmosphere. Service is fair, not great not bad.

I didn’t know what to expect given its location and perhaps an unfair assumption of what this place would be like. That said I wish it were closer to Columbus so I could visit more often. If you want an old school meat and potatoes dinner that is executed perfectly, this is your restaurant. It reminded me of The Top in Columbus: old school done right.

Food is top notch. Highly recommended. Service was excellent. Staff was very attentive. Definitely coming back!

Sometimes I think people give fives too freely. I reserve them for a truly excellent meal. Not always does that mean fancy, I concentrate on the food and experience.
I read a few reviews that complained of the décor. That was part of this restaurant’s charm. I loved the older furniture and wallpaper. The whole place was really comfortable and cozy. It was a Monday evening and it was busy. The best part was the live music, again on a Monday night. The piano/​keyboardist also sang. It was really charming. (Okay, the ceiling needed painted, badly).
I had a great glass of wine and our meals had some really good items and then some great items. The steak was cooked by someone extremely knowledgeable about steaks. The Chicken Oscar and asparagus were delicious. Our baked potatoes were excellent! We finished with cheesecake — one word of caution: share.
Enjoyable, is why I gave this restaurant five stars. I left with a smile on my face. The clientele was older and it seemed some things were geared for an older crowd but we enjoyed the whole experience.

The escargot, the oysters Rockefeller, the blackened filet (cooked a perfect medium rare) and fried oysters were all excellent. And the bread? Damn, the best bread anywhere! Great salad bar! Along with the ambience, I have rarely had as good a meal! :-)

One of the worst places I have ever eaten. Our meat was cold and tough. The steamed vegetabkes were overcooked. Baked potato was burnt. Carrot cake was dry. Even the salad was lacking in quality. Save your money and go to Texas Roadhouse, Olive Garden, etc.

I live by Skyway and also due to my job, I entertain clients occasionally, and Skyway is one of the few higher end restaurants in the Mansfield/​Ashland region. Reservations are recommended for a few reasons: 1) they do get busy and 2) they will engrave match books with your last name and place them on the table. Steak is their specialty for sure, but I’m not a huge beef eater and I’ve had shrimp and fish here, both have been cooked perfectly. With dinners you can have a salad bar or a spinach salad — I’ve always opted for spinach and they are delightful. Skyway also has a full bar, so I’ve had great drinks with my meals as well. The service is always impeccable, top notch. Overall, if you want a cozy, private dinner for a special event or a date night out, I’d recommend Skyway.

The food is great, the atmosphere is wonderful, old-​fashioned swanky and, best of all, this is a sole proprietorship not a chain. I just wish there were more restaurants like this closer to where we live in Cincinnati. The steaks here are wonderful as well as the fish, and the salad bar is really delicious, complete with homemade cheese spread. You don’t really need a reservation, but if you have time, make one! You’ll find matchbooks embossed with your name waiting on your table. Just another sweet old-​fashioned touch that makes me feel welcome, and I don’t even smoke!
Complaining about the décor in a place is, in my opinion, pretty weak. I can see complaining if a place is filthy, or the food is bad, but the décor? How precious are you? It’s a restaurant, not a design studio. You go there for the food, not to get decorating inspiration. There’s always the new chain restaurant over at the mall if you require granite tabletops and fake stucco walls.

I have driven by here for 30 years and finally decided to try it. I must be honest that it is the best steak in Mansfield and maybe central Ohio. Interior is a little dated, but the quality of food and service makes up for any shortcomings. Super fresh salad bar, great shrimp cocktail, and awesome dessert. You will not be disappointed. Did not try for thirty years, and now I have been three times in a month.

My entire family loves this restaurant. We’ve never had a bad meal. The prices are a bit high, but the food is totally worth it. I prefer the fried perch dinner with the salad bar. Occasionally I will just get the salad bar because it is so extensive!

Every meal we have ever eaten – which has been quite a few– has been excellent at Skyway. The lobster bisque, the shrimp Skyway, the Kobe beef, and the fresh fish of the day are standouts. On Fridays, they have wine nights where all bottles of wine are half price and many times they have a great piano player/​singer. All together, it makes for an excellent date night. Most of the servers have been there for 10+, some 20+ years, and it really shows; they pay attention to details, don’t keep you waiting, and make sure you are 100% satisfied. The only thing that could be improved is the ambiance– the décor is pretty dated, and the salad bar seems pretty out of place in an upscale restaurant – but, as is, I would still recommend The Skyway for a date night or special occasion without hesitation

Great establishment! The overall the atmosphere was warm and inviting and we both enjoyed our meals! The lamb chops are absolutely stunning with the Demi glaze and my girlfriend got the Texas Sirloin Cutlette. Lobster Bisque reminds me of the quality seafood basques I get back in Maryland, where I live. Will be going back!
