I love this place. This is the only place in Mankato that you should get sushi. Sure, if you want high quality top of the line sushi, this probably isn’t it. But we live in Mankato, not LA. The sushi is yummy, the service is friendly(they always give my toddler free ice cream!), and the food comes out fast!

Mankato as a whole offers limited dining establishments, especially when it comes to ethically diverse cuisines. I frequent this restaurant often as I am a big fan of sushi and good service. The place itself is nice and quaint. I’ve yet to dine at the hibachi tables, but they section off a large chunk of the restaurant for just that. They have a couple of decent sized flat screens and are happy to accommodate if requesting to change the channel. The food. They offer quite a variety and I was never disappointed in the quality of the food. It was delicious! If you are a fan of sushi, this place is worth trying. I was also very pleased with the service! They’re quick to grant us our requests and do so in a very timely manner. They check up on their customers quite often as well and the atmosphere was pleasant. All in all, I highly recommend this joint!

Good sushi for a small midwestern town. I’ve had every vegetarian roll they have, and they’re all good. I especially love the sweet potato tempura roll. The service is good, and I’ve never had to wait to be seated. It’s also reasonably priced, and it’s not uncommon for them to comp an appetizer if you don’t order one. The only real downside to this place is the atmosphere, and it could be solved so easily – I can’t believe they haven’t done it yet. They desperately need some music. It’s so unbelievably quiet that I find myself practically whispering at the table because it feels like everyone in the place can hear whatever you say. A little music would solve everything.

The food here is awesome and the service is great. Mankato roll is incredible. I love the atmosphere as well. They need to fix up a couple of the booths but that is it. This place is great.

The food was good and very well priced. The service was fair. There are flatscreen TVs conveniently mounted on each end of the restaurant. My server quickly accommodated when I asked him to change the channel. Avoid the booths seats. I sat in a booth seat and at one point I spilled water on my lap, because the person behind me kept abruptly leaning back on their backrest, which constantly pushed me forward in my seat.

Best sushi in town in terms of both quality and price. Especially enjoy the numerous«dragon» roll options. The staff are very friendly and attentive and the environment is pretty laid back. All in all a great value and one of my favorite places in town.

Just okay. The salad is just iceberg lettuce with a huge dollop of their house dressing. I couldn’t even eat it, because I felt like it was dressing accompanied with lettuce instead of the other way around. Something to improve: easy on the dressing, throw some shredded carrots or cucumber in it. Miso was okay. Generous amount. My volcano roll was okay too. I liked the set up of the rolls. Now the service… I was sat at the sushi bar & that was a bad mistake. Servers crowd around you to grab their table’s order. Why would you seat customers at the bar if you use the bar for servers to grab their dishes? I couldn’t even enjoy my meal in peace without having someone’s arm in my face.(Literally). It’s rude & unprofessional. They had no logic for this practice either. If you have a customer on one end of the bar, then sushi chefs should place their dishes on the opposite side of the customer for servers to grab. Not in front or next to the customer. Come on now guys. Use some common sense! Servers should check on their tables as well, not ignore them. I had to wait a long time to get check my check. If you clear someone’s dishes, you ask if they need anything, dessert, or the check. Come on, again. Common sense. Will be coming back because I believe in 2nd chances.

Check the date of this review, but I came for a Hibachi dinner, they had NO Hibachi chef! The food tasted great, although the serving size was a little less than I usually see from a chef. I am not a sushi lover, so I can’t say anything about that, but I will say the lion’s share of the patrons were ordering and eating the sushi.

We are regulars for their sushi and Hibachi. Its quaint and tight seating but that adds to the experience. Hibachi chef great with our 12, year olds for a bday party!

Seriously still probably the best sushi I have had to date. I have tried many different places and I still always find myself comparing it to this place. Always tastes so fresh, and I love the new prices

Lame ! Just tried to go for lunch to try their $ 8.95 two roll lunch. Very few rolls available. And those were strange types I have NEVER seen offered at any other Japanese restaurant In the U.S. — for example, «fried chicken roll» And” Alvacado peanut roll”?? Hello, yuk! Then they try to sell you a $ 15 tuna roll for«½ price». I let the waitress know I was leaving because the rolls available on the«lunch special» were very odd options, and they might considering adding popular choices like tuna, eel, or salmon rolls to to their«lunch“list. But since the waitress responded by rudely SNATCHING The MENU from my hand — I doubt she will relay my message ! SO … If you like waitresses you’d like to SLAP& Fried-chicken Sushi you may want to come here.

Great place for sushi! Relatively cheap, fresh enough and top service. Yes it may not be as fresh as in Minneapolis, but considering that we are 60 miles away from the Airport it’s pretty tasty. Especially good is the Hibachi Chicken lunch special.

Not bad but not great. Sushi fell apart way too easily. Flavors in the sauces(salad dressing, teriyaki sauce) just tasted«off». Chicken and shrimp were overcooked.

Out of the 20 different asian places to eat, Tokyo Sushi is by far the most authentic, best priced, and has the best quality food. Get the onion soup as a starter and finish off your meal with the Green Tea ice cream. Everything they make is phenomenal.

50% sushi. Enough said!!! Seriously I bought four rolIs for 16 dollars. I have never ever in my life paid so little for sushi that tastes great. I hope they stay put in Mankato.

Went out for sushi with a colleague and decided to try this place. Not good. Not good at all. First let me just say — the sushi chef Jeff was very nice and the staff courteous but the food did not match the service. Being from Southern California I may be a bit spoiled but the sushi here left A LOT to be desired. I ordered two hand rolls. A salmon hand roll and then a yellow tuna hand roll. Both rolls came out quickly and when I looked down I found what amounted to nothing more than a snow cone of fish. No veggies. No avocado, no carrots, no roe, green onions, radish… nothing. It really was just fish and rice. My favorite kind of sushi is sashimi. I get the hand rolls because they appear to have less rice in them than normal cut rolls. Maybe it’s just a personal preference but it really started off the meal on a bad note. The salmon was a little warm and unless its seared(It wasn’t) the sushi should be cold. My colleague is a vegetarian and she ordered two cut rolls. Sweet potato roll(She said it was nothing special) and an interesting roll with avocado and peanuts. She was not a fan. We both nearly died when she shared with me the peanuts were honey roasted. Ewwww gross. What were they thinking? We called it quits after that and left. I may not go back here for sushi but I am open to giving them a shot for the tepan grill. If you are in Mankato and want sushi skip it… or make the long drive to Minneapolis.

While visiting my cousin in Mankato from Vegas we were in the mood for some sushi. Being from Vegas we have some of the best sushi places around. We asked a few people where to go for sushi and they recommended Tokyo Sushi. I pulled up Unilocal to check out the reviews and after reading them I had some mixed feeling before going there. Once we got there the place was empty and they were getting ready to shut down. But they accepted us in and were more than happy to have us dine with them. We sat at the sushi bar. The service was very tentative and pleased to have us there. We ordered 2 rolls of sushi and a few beers. We also got the sushi chef a beer as well and had him make a roll that he most liked. The rolls came out and they looks really good. I was happy to see little rice and a lot of everything else. The rolls consisted of 8 – 10 pieces of sushi just like you would get at any sushi place. The sushi was delicious and my cousin agreed. Overall we were pretty happy to find a place that serves sushi and that is locally owned and operated. Next time I visit I will definitely go back for some more sushi. I would also recommend this place to any one visiting or living in Mankato.

Today I took my parents, wife and daughter to Tokyo. We all had hibachi, and my wife and I shared sushi. It was all very good. The service was excellent, the sushi was very tasty, and the hibachi, while not being at the level of a Benihana, was just a step below. Good prices, great food, excellent and attentive staff. My parents enjoyed it even more than the rest of us, and we did enjoy it. I can definitely recommend it.

Mankato has sushi? Whoa. I’ve been here probably 4 times since they opened and I guess for Mankato, it’s decent. I’ve gotten their rainbow roll, eel avocado, chicken teriyaki, and sashimi bento box. If you’re just getting sushi, I suggest going for the box as it is a better deal. The rolls aren’t particularly large and a bit expensive. It’s not the most fresh fish I have ever had either. I feel sometimes it doesn’t have too much flavor but then again, it’s the only sushi place for miles. The chicken teriyaki is large, sweet, served on a sizzling plate with a weird uncooked french fry as a garnish? It’s great they have options for friends you want to drag to this place who don’t like sushi. Overall, not the best tasting or price, but supply and demand I guess.
