The Hot Chicks Room is a small bar connected to the theater for the Upright Citizens Brigade East Village theater. It’s a small, dive bar with cheap prices and an average selection of drink options. The bartenders were friendly, and there was plenty of space to grab a hightop table 30 minutes before our show started. We went with a pitcher of a local pale ale that the bartender recommended, and it was only $ 20. The pitcher was twice the size of any normal pitcher you’d get at a bar downtown, so we were thrilled! You can take your drinks with you into the show and the bar is fully stocked and ready for you to come out during intermission!

Decent selection of beers at a decent price and not too cramped. It was fun hanging out at the bar waiting for the UCB show to start.

The Hot Chicks Room is an extension of UCB East( ) — you are asked to exit into the bar after a show in the theater. I’m a little fuzzy on the rules and regulations of this bar — it was suggested to me that UCB East is a theater first, bar second, which permits entry to minors; on the other hand, the Hot Chicks Room is simply a bar, and serves a limited selection of beverages: soda(canned), wine, and beer. No one carded when I was there, though, so I stayed put with my baby brother. I spied some bottles of liquor on a shelf behind the bar, but didn’t ask for a screwdriver because the bartender, when asked what I could drink, never once mentioned well/mixed drinks — and said they couldn’t make Shirley Temples when I attempted to order one for my mini-me. One of the drink specials on my most recent visit to the bar was Lemon Basil Sangria, but I was denied this as well(out of ingredients), so I settled on a can of Coca-Cola for a game of Battleship with my brother. Yes! There are games! Yet no deck of cards… am I the only one still into cards? In any case, I guess the«Hot Chicks Room» is a self-contained joke from UCB, because the chicks(hot or not) vamoosed soon after the Earworm Funny Music Party ended. While board games can keep sober me entertained, I don’t know if that’s a proper follow-up to a comedy show on a Friday night for most other girls when in the Lower East Side. People lingered very briefly, probably to chat up the performers and purchase a CD or two, but it cleared out significantly afterwards. Only one or two tables are lit brightly enough to play, but if you have a giant phone whose radiant glow can light up a room, you’ll be all set. If baby siblings are allowed in the bar, it’s not a bad place to continue a family-friendly night out once in a while.
