Came here with few friend couple of night ago. The place was not the most impressive dance club I have been to, but we did end up having lots of fun. The crowd was a little weird, mostly youngsters 20 – 24 years old. That also don’t know how to behave, and can’t handle few drinks. It is an underground club with is really cool, it had a very nice vibe. However getting in was a problem, ended up waiting for 20 minutes… Very long lines.

If I can help it, I will never go back to this place again. I waited to get in on a Friday night for upwards of 30 mins. This wouldn’t have bee a problem except there was a huge and uncontrollable crowd, most of the people were already belligerently drunk and seemed underage. It must have been the bouncers 1st night on the job because he had no control whatsoever. People were pushing, girls were squeezing their way to the front and yelling. I felt like I was at a Justin Bieber concert. Drunk girls were kissing the bouncer and sweet talking him so they could cut the line, which he LETTHEMDO because he was a moron. Finally 2 bouncers from inside came out and realized the line was ridiculous, so they sorted things out and made us create a REAL line rather than a mob scene. After about 10 more mins my friends and I got in — we only waited so long because we were meeting up for a friends birthday — only go downstairs and find out there is a $ 20 cover for guys(we had 1 guy with us… so dumb) Inside, the club was OK. It was a typical basement club in NYC with a mediocre DJ and overpriced drinks($ 13 for a watered down vodka seltzer.) I don’t know why the line outside was so crazy because it wasn’t even like the club was packed. Maybe I would have had a better time if the experience getting IN to Rokk City wasn’t so bad and I actually felt like giving this shithole my money to pay for drinks..

Rokk City is a new underground spot below the Culture Club. They recently opened — their opening party was on 11⁄4 and generally play ‘80s music, with the exception of weekends when they blast house. I must admit this place is located in a really off area with not much going on. I’m the type of girl who likes to hop from place to place at night if I’m not feeling a spot but the only other place close to here was Circle, so my options were limited. There was a pretty long line when we arrived around midnight on a Saturday(place supposedly opens at 11ish). Our promoter got us past the line with comps(although guys had to pay $ 20 regardless). Coat check was a mandatory $ 3, which was fine. The venue was a large dark & dingy basement. They tried to shnazz it up with some fancy Rokk City graffiti wall print… tried is the key word. The bathrooms are off to the right when you come in and there are two table service areas in the back(very awkwardly placed) whereas the rest of the tables and the big dance floor was to the left. Venue is admittedly large but not very nice or glamorous. The music was straight up house for the 2 hours we were there — with literally 1 hip-hop song which I loved and wish they had played more of. The place was decently crowded but we always had a spot to dance, although I’ll go out on a limb and say the majority of patrons were of the B&T kind ;) When I left, I grabbed a cab at the corner and my driver commented that every time he picked people up from this corner he was pleasantly surprised to see a mixed crowd — which is definitely a good thing. He then asked if I came from Circle and would like to be dropped off at Ktown. Womp.
