I recently moved into RiverTower and could not be more satisfied. The management and staff are exceptionally responsive and friendly. They go out of their way to get to know you. They made my move-in experience a breeze. I love my apartment. The building is beautiful and clean. Any maintenance issue that I had was addressed promptly. The convenience of the concierge service, dry cleaners, parking garage and gym on site is exceptional. The location of the building is wonderful. I have lived in New York my entire life and there is no such thing as a perfect building but this is as good as it gets in the rental world. Finally, the fellow residents in this building are great. As an update I recently moved to a larger apartment in the building and all I have are positive things to say. Management made it easy for me and helped me every step of the way as did the building staff. Speaking of the building staff, you will never find a nicer group of people who always go above and beyond to help you. Between the doormen, concierge, front desk attendant and the handymen in the building your life is made easy. This would also extend to the Icon garage attendants who are aces. Especially if you have to use a car to get in and out of the city the FDR exit at 53rd Street leads you to the garage in half a block. If you are heading North on the FDR you are 5 minutes from the 62nd Street entrance. The residents and the whole vibe of the building is terrific.

The Equity company that owns 420 E 54th is a disgrace. I provided the guaranty for my ex’s apartment at River Tower and was a paying customer for 2 years, never late. When my ex moved in their were problems. Deep scrathes on the floor, older appliances, a light switch in the bedroom that turned off the TV in the living room and improperly or poorly grouted bathrooms. Not what one would expect from a high rent luxury property. To my knowledge nothing was fixed. My ex loved the location and the views from the apartment are beautiful. Rent went up dramatically at renewal and we paid because the cost and work involved with moving after just a year was too much to want to take on. Obviously they know that, so they bait and switich. Next renewal, another steep increase and this time decided to move. The company couldn’t have been more rude about it and pointed out the things that were wrong from the beginning(scrathces on the floor, etc.) and demanded that we would have to pay to have them fixed. How absurd, you live with the defficiencies just to have to pay to have them fixed when leaving. We had email evidence of the conversations about the needed repairs from the time of moving in but they didn’t care. It’s stressful enough to move and to have these rude idiots giving you a hard time while doing it is disgraceful. I noticed when at the apartment during the move that the tape that had been put on the windows to keep dust from coming in the apartment during the more than a year construction outside(as was mentioned in another post on the is site) had never been completely removed in parts and looked very shabby. I can’t believe me ex lived with it, but she was so sick and tired of complaining and requesting service that she just let it go. We’re talking about a high rent apartment(7000) and it’s managed by someone who is no better than a slum landlord. Pathetic. DONOTRENTFROMEQUITYANYWHERE!
