Idt Energy

Received a letter in the mail in my fathers name (who has been deceased for almost 6 years) stating that he had made a request to switch from comed to IDT energy. Also received a letter from comed saying that my deceased father requested to switch energy providers. Door to door salesmen always come through my apartment complex and it seems as though they have gotten a hold of my fathers information and compromised it.
Filed a complaint with BBB and will be contacting comed to explain the situation and IDT to cancel the fraudulent service a door to door salesmen probably started.

I can only classify this company as a wolf dressed in sheep’s clothing. I was approached at my apartment complex by one of their door to door sales folks. He explained that the company he represented was IDT and that they specialize in «Green Energy». I am fairly conscientious about reducing my carbon footprint, so I listened to the young man’s spiel. I signed up thinking I would be saving myself some money from switching over from ComEd supplying my energy. What I soon came to find out was that the whole situation had been a bait and switch. My energy bill doubled after the first month. I attributed that to it being the winter, and maybe my windows were drafty? I winterized my apartment windows, and my bill for this month was over double what I normally pay for electricity. I just got off the phone and canceled my service with IDT Energy. Total waste of money, and a scam if I’ve ever seen one. Do not sign up for this service.

Terrible company. We are here in Chicago and sales person came to the door and pushed her way in. Explained that she was from ComEd and then told me to go get my computer to pull up the bill. She vaguely pointed to the second page somewhere and said «do you see this rebate?» you can get this if you sign up with us. Very confusing at first. Very friendly at first, but then when I tried to say NO, she kept saying she could lose her job and more people would be coming to ask me to sign up. Stay away!

Don’t do it. Just don’t. My monthly bill was double what it was with PSEG. Just canceled.

I just canceled my membership with IDT. I have mixed feelings. I only joined because I could supposedly help the environment by signing up for their «going green» package. The rep that came to my door was persuasive, but not pushy. I’ll say, she was VERY nice and she got me to sign up. She told me that my bill will be a little higher, but hey… for the environment, I could deal with it. At the end of 12 months, I’d get a rebate check. Didn’t expect much, but a rebate sounds great. I got $ 8 back, lmao.
My bill went up as promised, but I could swing it. However… January and February hit and my bill shot up to over $ 300!!! Mind you, I live alone, I’m rarely home (work, then school), when I leave in the morning, I shut off all the circuits except my fridge. I don’t have TV or any type of entertainment center, so nothing plugged in except the microwave. My bill in the winter is normally around $ 40-​$ 60, and $ 60’s pushing it. But $ 300? Dude…
When I called Con Ed, they said that IDT was pretty much raping me per kWh. When I called IDT, Samantha (very nice also) admitted that my bill was «a little higher» because of the going green thing? A little higher? REALLY? Really? Okay.
So… yeah. I helped the environment for a year. That works for me, lol.

These are one of those ESCOs that come to your door asking to see your electric bill. First, he introduced himself saying he worked for the company «Green Energy.» He then said that I was eligible for a rebate and lower electric bills. He also said things like, NYC deregulated energy in 1990 (lie, it was 2000), and that ConEds «EL1» meant that I had an elevated rate (no, EL means Electric, not Elevated). He said that I would never pay more than 3c/​kWh and that the delivery charge would not be more than $ 5/​mo (on their website it said 3c/​kWh + variable rate; ESCOs are not in charge of delivering energy, ConEd still does the delivery). He also said things like, «I f***ing hate my job sometimes,» and when I questioned him about when NYC deregulated, «I know what I’m talking about, I had to learn stuff for this job; do your research.» So to wrap this up, when I refused to give my phone number, saying I wanted to, as he suggested, do my research, he threw a hissy fit. When he realized he wasn’t getting his commission from me, he threw out there that his company wasn’t «Green Energy» but instead «IDT».
Don’t lie to me, don’t curse at me, and don’t push me into signing up for something while refusing to do it in writing and then maybe, maybe I might consider you more than a scam.

I wish I could put no Stars! These people come to my house every week bothering and wanting to see my Con Ed Bill. I was with Energy Plus and thought maybe I’d give this company a try. Well, with IDT EnergyI went from paying $ 22.4096 cents per kWh to paying $ 30.4957 cents per kWh from one month to the next. I was given no discounts or savings anywhere. I live in a one bedroom apartment and am not even there for most of the day, yet I’m paying a bill of $ 240.00 in February as opposed to last month’s bill of $ 145.00 with the same company. This is ridiculous and I just cancelled with them!

This is the first I’ve ever seen a utility of sorts being reviewed and leave it to me to be the first!
Everyone has a choice and everyone has had this choice when choosing your electric and gas providers for a few years now. What you do with that choice is up to you, but please allow me to warn you that these service providers can be very pushy — sound like they will save you a ton of money — or at least promise to save you money — and until you become a consumer — they will treat you like you are royalty.
All this great stuff will end as soon as you question them about anything. All that money they have promised to save you never materializes and as with IDT Energy (Jamestown NY) — they simply don’t understand balance budgets at all and will do nothing for you EXCEPT continue to take your money.
I finally became so frustrated that I went back to NYSEG — my kilowatt rate is and has been less expensive then with IDT, they knew what true balance budgeting is and they have always been there when I’ve needed them. These service providers are only there to take your money — they do not take care of any issues — that’s still with your electric or gas company.
PLEASE don’t be taken by their cunning ways and don’t allow them to manipulate your brain into thinking what just isn’t true. Before you make the change — make sure you investigate. Get the kilowatt rate from the provider and then call your electric company to find out what your kilowatt rate currently is. Also — if you have already selected a service provider different from your original electric or gas company — it’s time for you to take a look and see what your charges are and ensure you really are still getting the best deal. You can generally save a couple bucks if you watch what you are doing.
This has been my public service announcement/​review. And finally — after 9 years of having IDT as my service provider — I’m back to NYSEG and saving money once again!
