good for an emergency. 01÷06÷26, i wanted to buy half white fish, the young woman was so rude, scolding at me in her language. i requested to call the owner, answered do not have the #. the cashier, mature woman, spoke to her, and she was on the phone. insulting me turning her back to me, i was speechless. I had the audacity to request to speak with the owner. this young woman(25 – 30) should find another job or go back to her ghetto, not very nice from me., but i am furious The owners are so nice, they are going out their way to please the clients this is sad this little piece of… could destroy their business

People be aware that some things here may be really bad. I just bought chocolates«belochka» and inside each one were worms!!! God knows what else goes on in that place.

I love come here for several reasons 1) cheap fruit and vegetables. I am not certain, but their produce seems to be fresher and more locally sourced than the supermarket. 2) Russian goodies, especially the bread and the pistachio halva. 3) I usually ask for a couple chocolates from the bin to round out my order. I particularly like the Kara Kum, or anything with a squirrel on it.

Very good and affordable. I think the highlights are the fish items and cold cuts, including a variety of Russian sausages, as well as the store-made blini. Not to mention the bacon and courteous service.

Mir Hleb i Zemlja! I was quite happy and surprised to stumble upon this place today with its selection of Eastern European jams, candies, fruit teas, spices, etc. I can’t visit my mother for Easter this year and I was missing her poppy seed bread(she will never give me the recipe for this BTW), and lo and behold *cue angels singing* I found it on the deli counter… obviously, I must say that my mother’s is better, and it is, but it was a pretty good try on their part. In the coolers there are lots of yogurts, that horrible fish people like, and some dumplings. I didn’t see any black bread though, when I was there, which was a surprise. Everything looks clean and fresh, the jars aren’t all dusty like they’ve been sitting there for years, like in some stores. You will encounter the usual paranoidly unfriendly people at the counter, don’t take it personal, in my experience that’s how New York Russians are when they don’t know you well. If you are like me and your Eastern European ancestry is very diluted, or if it is nonexistent, you should know that all the writing on the dried goods is in Cyrillic and you will have to guess at what is in the little packets by looking at the pictures. It is at 4453 Broadway, not the address listed above. EDIT5.24.13 well there is black bread there all the time now, they must’ve been out the first time I was there. Also note, each and every time I have brought dairy home from here, it has *not* been spoiled, which is saying something for uptown. I will gladly walk blocks from my neighborhood store to buy fresh yogurt.

They pack a lot of interesting/unusual/hard-to-find products in a pretty small space, with prices are far more reasonable than Moscow on the Hudson just a couple blocks away. The only thing keeping me from giving them 5 stars is that there’s often expired products on their shelves. I’ve picked up containers of jam that were 6+ months past their sell-by date. Otherwise, though, this place is great — be sure to pick up a frozen Karums snack, too.

A Russian grocery store that is less than 10 blocks away from another Russian grocery store but, most of the times, twice as cheaper.
