Eddie’s Shoe Repair

My j crew suede ballet flats and I found ourselves outside in a downpour, and they were soaked through and dirty when I dropped them at Eddie’s. When I saw what he had done with them, I thought he might have just bought a new pair. They came back beautiful and just like new!

This place stinks to high heavens. My wife took a pair of treasured boots there to have the soles replaced. She made it clear to the guy that these boots were special to her and to please be very careful. When my wife picked up the boots, it appeared the guy had done a decent job. A couple of days later, she wore the boots for the first time since the repair and noticed a hole in the body of the boot near the sole. That hole was not there before. When she took the boots back to the guy and showed him the hole the guy got nasty, told my wife that the damage did not happen at his shop and that he was not going to repair it. When my wife told him she had been there many times before and that he should not treat her this way, he told her to shut up, leave, and never come back. Note that this was happening in front of another customer who left the store when he heard him yelling at my wife. This was very embarrasing. She ended up taking the boots to another place and they made the repair for $ 10. That was on top of the $ 30 she payed for the sole replacement.
My wife was crying when she called me to tell me what had happened.
For those of you that want to use this place, please know that there is an a-​hole working there and that if he screws you, there is no one to complain to as there is no indication of who or where the manager/​owner is. This jerk appeared to have complete autonomy to do as he pleases.
I ould suggest that you find another place to get your shoes repaired, folks. In this economy, no reason to risk running into this type of degrading treatment. Plenty of other places will trulyt value your business.

Eddie’s location can’t be beat. Its next to Track 36 by the Hudson News Stand and the flower shop, past the Juniors and the Starbucks. Its hours are pretty wide so there’s a good chance you can drop off and pick up within your commute schedule.
Replacing the heel tips on my Sam Edelman’s ran me $ 10, which is $ 2 more expensive than my old place in Astoria. And they didn’t shine or otherwise touch up the shoes either. Service was prompt and responsive however, and the place is clean and organized. The shoes are are labeled and bagged with another label — which gives people who have anxiety about loss a bit more comfort. So for the convenience and the great guys who are here, its worth a visit if you’re on the way.

This place offers the best shoe shine in New York and the best value too. At $ 4 for a 10 minute shine, I have simply never encountered a better shoe shine than at Eddie’s My shoes often look like new after a shine here, and I will frequently get comments to that effect from friends. The improvement is more drastic than with any other shoe shine. Finally, the location can’t be beat. With locations in the dining concourse, in the Biltmore room, and outside near the 42^nd street entrance to GCT, you are never to far from a shoe shine stand while in Grand Central.

They fixed my baby! My handbag was in terrible shape and every dry cleaner I took it to gave me sad looks and shook their heads. Eddie’s is not cheap but considering how expensive this bag is, it was worth it.

I dropped two pairs of shoes off on a crazy busy Monday morning in GC:
#1: Canvas Sperry’s (which I probably wore every other day last summer)
Issue: Large rip in the top seam of the shoe which was getting worse by the day because I decided to bring them back into the mix this spring and continued to wear them despite last summer’s issues
#2: B E & D Flats:
Issue: Literally looked like they should have been thrown out and used for scrap leather, if that (water marks galore, damaged soles, etc etc etc) however they are pricey shoes that I wore to work constantly and couldn’t imagine parting with.
It cost me $ 110 for the two pairs to be revived back to health (which I must admit I was quite sad about upon dropping them off), but the smile on my face when I was presented with two «new» pairs of my favorite shoes was so well worth it!

So my train is always at the ass end of GCT. This place is right by the last few tracks and is never too busy for a nice shine. The guys here are quick and good at what they do. They have a shoe repair spot, which seems busy, but I haven’t had to use it yet.
Probably the funniest thing though was last week, I was getting a shine done along with a couple of other people and a group of tourists walks by and a woman takes a pic of us and says «people still do this like the old fashioned days?» I simply shook my head.

This place is a winning combination of:
— A job really well done
— The most convenient location you could ever ask for
— Good prices
I’ve been going now for four years and trust them with my expensive shoes. Their hours are good for those who work late.
Have a few minutes at GCT? $ 4 will get you a top-​notch shine. Drop off and it’s $ 5.

I’m surprised by the lack of reviews for this place considering how busy it is. Prices are very reasonable compared to other places I’ve used in the past, and quality of work is same or better. I stopped by this place primarily because it’s close to work and they have flexible store hours — 6:30 AM — 7 PM. I brought in a pair of men’s dress shoes to be resoled and a pair of heeled suede/​leather riding boots to mend. One boot toe had the leather scraped off (I think I kicked something hard and gritty) and both stacked heels had all kinds of dents in them. The bottoms of the heel also needed to be replaced.
For $ 68 inc. tax, my husband’s shoes were perfectly resoled and polished. When he put them on, he automatically noticed that they fit and felt significantly better than the other pair he has (yes, he has two pairs of the same exact dress shoe). That pair didn’t need to be resoled again just yet, but now he wants to send it to Eddie’s anyway. As for my boots, the damage on the toe is unnoticeable unless you examine it up close — a few inches from your face close. I’m still not sure what they did with the heel. I can’t tell if they replaced the entire piece with a new one, but considering the dimensions weren’t «standard», they probably just fixed it up to look like new. They cleaned the suede and polished the leather along with the fixes for a total of $ 35. Considering that is less than 10% the cost of replacing the boots (and I haven’t found a similar pair yet), I am a happy camper.

Really good professional shoe shine! They can be really friendly and chatty but if you drop a hint by reading something or playing with your iPhone they leave you alone and finish your amazing shine in 5 minutes flat.

Not just for shoes! I brought my dog’s leash to them because the stitching had started to come loose in 2 places. The service was excellent, and he clearly laid out my options. I ended up having him put rivets in the sections of leather that for some reason the people at Coach didn’t think needed them. The finished work was beautiful — I couldn’t tell the difference between his work and the original work. I will definitely be back. Most likely with shoes, though, since that leash will probably stay intact longer than Grand Central itself.

Eddie’s is great and I’ll tell you why:
1 — Cool shop. I love specialty shops and this shoe shine place looks like a shop your dapper grandma would stop in to get his shoes shine.
2 — Cool prices. Their prices were very reasonable. Not much more for excellent quality and service.
3 — Excellent quality. Had my Louboutins fixed here. Not only did they do an excellent job, they tried their hardest to fix other parts that I didn’t pay for but added to how nice my shoes became upon pickup.
4 — Convenience. If you live/​work around the Grand Central area Eddie’s locale cannot be beat. Seriously, with all the other things you have going on during your day… traveling out of your way to get your shoes fixed is just too much of a pain.

Excellent shoe shine… I always make a point to stop by here… plenty of chair and a great experience!

Echo Unilocaler extraordinaire Srini V. — I love Eddie’s too. Great service. Conveniently located in Grand Central. Open early — I can go before 7am. I still bring my Louboutins and Manolos to Arty’s in Chelsea for protective soles but for heel tips and shines, go to Eddie’s! Better than nearby Cobbler & Shine, although they’re open later.

I love Eddie’s.
They shine shoes.
And repair shoes too.
Not to forget making keys.
